My mom has been widowed over 25 years...never looked for anyone else, I think she wants my dad back in the ‘new system’. I remember, about 20 years ago, some ‘brother’ came by her house twice to bring her flowers. She was in her late sixties, this guy was in his forties. When my mom said she wasn’t interested, he stopped, a month later he was married to another widow much older than him. He was on ‘disability’ and wanted a widow with a house and money. I guess he didn’t like to work.😏

After the death of a spouse, how long did people wait to get remarried?
by RubaDub ini was on the phone with a long-time friend from my original congregation north of new york city and she told me that the 'shit hit the fan' when a brother (long-time elder i know well) got remarried about 6 weeks after his wife died.. he was about 60 and his new wife (a pioneer that i also know) was about 50 and had never been married.. it became a huge issue when the co came.
due to all the talk and chatter in the congregation, he even included in one of his talks without naming names, that marriage is something sacred and that when and how people get married is a personal matter as long as it conforms to bible standards.. anyway, it shut everybody up.
any similar experiences in your current/former congregations?.

Were You Willing To Die For Jehovah?
by minimus inwe were supposed to be dedicated unconditionally to jehovah god.
we were willing to be persecuted to the death if need be.
if it came to taking a blood transfusion or dying, we were loyal to jehovah and would be a martyr for god.

GREAT comment, Pete Zahut. Very interesting to know that this is common. And no, I would never have let myself die for this BS religion.

We had an elder in our hall with 3 kids, 2 grown, one in high school. His wife died of cancer. Within 6 months or so, he remarried, a young, single sister, very pretty, the same age as his kids (early twenties). He was loaded, I think that’s why she married someone old enough to be her father. I believe they are still married, he’s in his eighties.

Oh How Far I've Come
by pale.emperor inso this weekend my girlfriend and i will move into our own place together.
it turns out that “a cord of three strands is stronger” is bullshit and two people in a relationship are perfectly capable of being happy without outside influence.
what a journey i’ve had since leaving 3 and a half years ago!

Were / Are the Governing Body "Rock Stars"
by Number 6 inin 1976 when i was a young lad of 6, fred franz came to glasgow and gave a talk in govan a suburb on the south side of the city (for those of you who dont know).
our congregation hired a bus to ferry us all to the hall and it was standing room only.
being only 6, i have only the vaguest of memories other than an old man shouting and bawling from the stage.

Fred Frank gave a talk at our convention in 1976-after the 1975 failure. He shook his fist at the audience and said WE were at fault. I was only 16, and I remember thinking “you fucking liar.”

Happy Alcoholic Jehovah's Witnesses
by The Bethelite infor many years since the witness organization, after i have told people that i'm no longer a jehovah's witness, people would say "oh the religion were people are not allowed to drink!".
"no they drink alright.....they can't do much of anything else but they do drink!".
in fact the first place i ever got drunk was bethel.

I’ve got a large library of ex JW books, dating back 30 plus years to the present. Each one has a different perspective. I guess Crisis of Conscience is #1.
