Our First Christmas Tree
by Queequeg inearly on, after we left jw land, my wife said to me, “i hope you don’t care, but i don’t ever see myself doing any christmas stuff.
i don’t really understand why some ex jws decide to do that crap.” we agreed that parties were a little different because of the social aspects, but other wise i didn’t care.
now… there’s a 16’ douglas fir with ornaments and lights in our living room.

Keep telling yourself that!
by Lost in the fog inin the latest copy of the elders textbook someone kindly made available to us on this website, i see that "independently organized meetings for spiritual feeding" are still not allowed.
no wonder because independent research would let the scales fall from the eyes.. the gb still insisting that they are guided by the (always lower case) holy spirit and the bible!!
not that the rank and file members need the bible or holy spirit themselves because they are fed through meetings, conventions, assemblies, jw broadcasting and the publications.

Do the old boys on the GB actually report their field service hours?
by eyeslice inthis came to mind as my 71 year old wife got up at 6:30 to drive 1.1/4 hours to meet the field ministry group.
we live a long way from the kingdom hall and the traffic is horrendous where we live!.
somehow, i doubt the good old boys do much themselves.

When I was a JW child, I always thought Jehovah was mean, but Jesus was nice. I thought Jehovah was mean because he didn’t let kids (JW) have holidays. When I found that scripture in Romans, which says it’s ok to celebrate, and “each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.” When I brought that up, I was quickly hushed up.

Pioneer couple sense of entitlement
by nowwhat? inso there's this middle age pioneer couple.
he works part time and the wife doesn't work at all.
their daughter is getting married and even though it is known they go on multiple vacations a year, they expect the grooms parents to pay for 100% of the wedding!

Have the Jehovah's Witnesses brought reproach on the name Jehovah?
by Vanderhoven7 ini would have to say yes...by tagging god's alledged name in their title and attaching to it unusual doctrines, end of world date predictions, deadly blood interpretation, abusive shunning policy, csa cover ups.. is there more?.

Phizzy, haha on your comment on the food. My dad was an elder, they had their quarterly elders meeting, and took turns at each other’s houses. We had an elders wife, who made them a wonderful spread of delicious food. They weren’t expecting it, but, obviously, they enjoyed it very much. After that, all the elders wives, when it was their turn to host, went over the top in providing a feast. My mom would agonize for weeks over what to make when it was her turn.
