I did not know the Dutch and French were the colonial powers ruling Liberia and Nigeria ................. Niger was French, Nigeria was British and Liberia never was anything but what the name says, liberated, it was always free, founded by returning US slaves. The Dutch never had an African colony, they had so in Asia, like Indonesia and in South America like Suriname.

Differences Between JWs in the US and Europe
by BU2B inthere are many cultural differences between the general population of the us and europe, what about jws?
i have heard about such things as beards being allowed, movies that a jw cant watch in the us or would be frowned upon watching being ok, same with tv shows, and even the way they dress in public.
seems more laid back over there if this is true.. any truth to this?

Swedes are rather stiff people, whereas the other Nordic peoples are not. Germans are very stiff, Mediterranean ones open and outwardly and including. I guess the JW communities are rather similar to the people of the area in general. Some JWs from a more open part of the country move to another part and are surprised at how stiff people are in the congregation there and vice versa. But non-JWs doing the same, experience the same. Some areas are more closed than others. And a couple of strong personalities might influence a whole congregation. Tell a joke as part of your talk if you hold talks in other congregations, and you will find that in some congregations they will laugh heartedly, whereas in others not a facial muscle will move - which might be rather embarassing for you as a speaker .....................
But one thing I notice, and that is the more or less reverential attitude the US JWs obviously have towards the GB. Not so here, in general. But I guess that is because to us, they are remote, physically, they are at the other side of the Earth and strangers to us. I was at a convention here quite some years ago, when four of them were guest speakers, and those four were the among old ones, Henschel et al., but no-one cared, they pretty much stood together as a group during breaks, and there was no crowd of hangarounds to say hello. But by the way, a couple of years ago another one visited, and it was announced from the platform that it sould be possible to have one's photo taken together with him afterwards - but that flash should not be used .............. reminded me of a pop star's visit .............. so perhaps the new members are not as "shy" as the old ones.

BROTHERS & SISTERS - READ THE BROCHURE!
by The Searcher injesus always used illustrations to help people reason on the import of what he was saying.
here is an illustration followed by a reality;.
imagine that your heart went out to all those poor people who suffered when fukushima blew up, so much so, that when an internationally renowned charity asked for donations to help those in need, you donated $5000 to the cause.

"how it could possibly cost $9-$10,000 per day to use our own assembly hall?"
Well, it was built once, wasn't it? And that did cost some money, did'nt it? And that means loans will have to be paid, doesn't it? Just for the record, our convention hall has now been fully paid, zero loan or debt, and so there are no more calls for deficit and how much needs to be paid for a convention day.

So - just to get it straight - what you think is correct seen from the side of the houseowner who had his house destroyed, is to have volunteer JWs rebuild his house for free, receive new furniture donated either as furniture or as money given by JWs, and THEN receive and keep the full amount of insure money paid to him by his insurance agency?
Both ways, in other words?

The resurrection fantasy, the last desperate illusion?
by Slidin Fast inas people get older they inevitably lose more of their friends and family.
the doctrine that binds them to the truth like superglue is the doctrine of the resurrection.
they ache to see their dead rise.. so ... i die.

God keeps you in His memory, He is a God for the living, the from our viewpoint dead ones live in Him, He views them as living - and then he gives them a new physical body. I cannot see that as a clone, because they during all the in-between time have been living in His memory as individuals.

Could someone very shortly tell me poor non-US person the time-line or the actions, the "what is happening and what will happen next" of this case? Not what the case is about, but the way and manners the US system works or deals with a case like this. So that I can get an understanding of how the US system functions, as it is different from ours.

New light Watchtower magazine leaked from organization weeks ahead of general release
by cedars inhttp://jwsurvey.org/governing-body-2/new-light-watchtower-magazine-leaked-from-organization-weeks-ahead-of-general-release.
if doctrinal explanations are missing from the article, it is because they are also missing from the magazine.. i would like to give my thanks again to my source for supplying me with the magazine article weeks ahead of its scheduled release.
it showed remarkable courage, because risks were taken.

On the attack from UN, Cedars, and its apparent incapability of doing anything these days, unless it is tricked into doing it by the US (as was shown in Libya), it is pretty much covered by the WT teaching that it is God who is making the UN carry out the attack. UN and man is not doing it by itself, but is doing God's will in this respect. If that factor is not brought in, I think we would have to wait for ....... quite some time ......... to see religion attacked by UN or any one of the present states for that matter.

Congregation had to relocate Memorial...thanks to me
by Shepherd Book inso, the two local congregations were planning to hold their memorial together at 7:30 at the local community center, but they had to make a last-minute change to their own hall, and i'm pretty sure it was because of me.. let me explain.... at work on monday afternoon, a co-worker returned from her lunchbreak and showed me the memorial invitation that was waiitng in her door when she went home for lunch.
i noticed the sticker on the back indicated the memorial was being held, not at the local hall, but at the community center.
from a past (non-jw) event i attended there, i knew they didn't allow alcohol (unless you pay for security guards), so i wrote to the center's coordinator:.

Oh, how brave and manly. Human wisdom taken to its extreme.
If that was an example of the most intelligent thing you managed to do, I see no limits as to how childish people can behave.

"The JWs are only attracting disadvantaged, uneducated, social misfits."
1. Cor. 1: 26-29:
26 For YOU behold his calling of YOU, brothers, that not many wise in a fleshly way were called, not many powerful, not many of noble birth; 27 but God chose the foolish things of the world, that he might put the wise men to shame; and God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put the strong things to shame; 28 and God chose the ignoble things of the world and the things looked down upon, the things that are not, that he might bring to nothing the things that are, 29 in order that no flesh might boast in the sight of God.
