Questions concerning Deng Xiaoping
by fulltimestudent inon another thread band on the run requested that i answer certain questions she put to me concerning deng xiaoping.
i requested another thread for that, one wasn't started so i start it myself.. i see the questions are reasonable, at least for someone who (admittedly) claims to know little about china, and i have no issues about answering them.
like all humans deng xiaoping, is a mix of good things and not so good things.. in telling deng's story, i have no wish to distort history, i see no reason to tell "outright lies about the past, or to omit facts that may lead to unacceptable conclusions or to gloss over anything with a quiet, slight admission that is buried by some other detail.

Deng did ONE thing - he destroyed everything that Mao and the Communist Party had fought to accomplish for decades, he restored capitalism and paved the way for the military-fascist regime that is now in control. A scumbag.

Just look at the second latest news cited:
MOSCOW, August 1 (RAPSI) – The Namangan police in eastern Uzbekistan have arrested members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses religion for trying to convert local Muslims and for holding secret prayer meetings, a local police officer told RIA Novosti on Friday.
“We stopped an illegal meeting of this organization and found print and electronic media in the meeting room that we collected for further review,” the source said. All of the arrested are Uzbek citizens.
Under the Uzbek law on the freedom of conscience and religious associations, religious literature can only be used by registered religious associations within its registration area. The law also prohibits religious propaganda.
The arrested could face a fine of up to 100 times the minimum wage (about $5,000 at the Central Bank of Uzbekistan exchange rate).
Over 2,200 religious associations have been registered in Uzbekistan. More than 90% of them are Muslim organizations, but there are also 159 Christian organizations, eight Jewish and six Baha’i communities, one Hare Krishna society and one Buddhist pagoda in Uzbekistan.

Outside source? There is no such thing in today's Russia. The days of high hopes lasted for a decade or so, and then the country vanished into some sort of nationalist - orthodox-Christian - police-state type of nation, ruled by the Father in Cremlin, who used to be the Czar, then was Stalin, then was Brezhnew, then is Putin. The judicial system, acting as the government's prolonged arm, will do anything to stop the JW community, and since the European judicial system has halted its attempts at stopping them thru labelling them extremists etc., they now resort to fabricating stuff against them. I guess no country has ever been polluting its environment more than has Russia (for example Lake Aral), so this accussation is just ridiculous.

Child sex abuse cases mentioned at weekly meeting?
by HeyThere inokay, tonight someone told me that one of the elders actually addressed the child sex abuse cases at the weeknight meeting this past week.
she said the speaker said that accusations are being made against the truth but that they should stand firm in the truth and that they are going to continue fighting these allegations and that all should stand firm for jehovah or some similar comments.... did anyone else hear this from the stage?.

A few years ago, when accusations were spread in newspapers and television in some European countries, a special talk was given at a service meeting and the branches in question prepared a letter that was read to the congregations, so it is not always kept quiet.

Millerites, Jehovahs Witnesses and Purple Triangles
by Simon ini came across this after posting another iq video to a different topic.
interesting how much the jehovahs witnesses are featured ... but it is because they are a millenial cult with failed rapture prophecies:.

"Rebel, I am not sure which account is historically accurate When I found the photo, I thought the dress was more reminiscent of late 1800s fashion. I thought it possible that the photo was taken in 1874 - the 'first'Russell rapture."
Look at his face - he was not that old in '74. The picture is taken on his Middle East trip way later.
