  Angelic protection-how does that work again?

  we read of recent events, 5 jw children killed in a car accident, jw's caught and beheaded and be-tongued (and not necessarily in that order) in the phillipines, a busload of witnesses burnt to death in spain on the way to the district convention (some years back).

  and so on and so on..... yet the wt and bible too tell us "have no fear because jehovah and his myriads of angels are watching over us and will protect us.".

  well, they do a pretty crappy job at it!

  While not having the time to pick up this discussion right now, just a small correction: You stated that "a busload of Witnesses burnt to death in Spain on the way to the District convention (some years back)."

  Actually, they were not on their way to a convention, but they had been out on a Saturday or Sunday trip, some friends together; while this does not alter the terrible tragedy thathappened, many people frying to death being caught in the burning bus, then it was, as I said, not in any way connected with a convention.

  Sent my DA letters out

  finally got up the nerve to send my da letters out yesterday.i sent them in lovely scarlet envelopes(in homage to nathaniel hawthorne's "the scarlet letter")with american flag stamps hehe.i wrote the letters on my hound dog stationary.thought it was fitting, having heard the old "dog returning to its vomit" speech a few gazillion times(hey, my lab and dal eat lots of vomit and they love horse manure-vet says they're the healthiest doggies around:)).. then i went out and bought a little christmas tree and some teeny tiny ornaments.yeah, i know, i'm rushing it a bit.but i really really missed celebrating christmas, and i didn't even admit that to myself until just recently.my kids were absolutely thrilled!

  !this year will be their first everything.i'm going to buy them all "my first christmas" ornaments.. but first we have halloween and a few birthdays to do.my sons already got their first invitations to a birthday party.

  my kids want me to go trick-or-treating with them.maybe i'll dress up as cruella deville and take my dalmatian puppy,sidhe, with me.. my,my, i'm running on and on like a kid at christmas...and halloween...and ..... it's good to be free.i don't care what the org boogeymen try now.i've said my piece to them,now i'm done with them.i don't have to sneak around and worry about whose seeing me do this or that.i'm the one who has chosen to leave-and you bet your boots i will hold certain ones to their own rules about not speaking to me lol.in this case, what comes around, goes around.i'm just glad to be off the org carousel.i'm a little dizzy yet, but still standing.. hehe-i'm getting punchy.i'm going to go to bed and sleep in on a sunday morning!!!

  What does that mean, when compared to the heading "JW debater" - was he a person debating against JW, or with? Was he a Witness, or was he an opponent?

  I think that is a very heartless and weird statement to come up with. Six people were taken prisoners, two of them were beheaded, and it is a terrible thing to occur no matter what race or religion these people had / have. I feel very sorry for people going through such things, if they are Catholic nuns or priets, or oil well workers or US aid personnel. You seem to think that since they were Jehovah's Witnesses, they are nothing to mourn, they were just idiots and the world should be happy that we got rid of them. People with such an attitude are the ones who should go to the nearest river and stick their head under the water and keep it there till the next day - at least. There are no fellow Witnesses who say that this was a wonderful event, there is nothing wonderful about dying, and whatought to make one sick, is that persons like you are going around making such statements.

  In my country, some congregations received and distributed the card, while others did not - rather confusing .....

  An old man's childish small-scale rebellion

  i was a socialist / communist and a hippie before turning a witness, always looking out for chances to disrupt the harmony and tranquility, for putting sand in the machinery of the authorities.

  was a "liberal" elder for 24 years, always thinking people's intentions and attempts were the main thing, not looking for faults or shortcomings.

  but it always amused me when i could tell the co-elders they had handled things not in accordance with procedures, as i was very good at remembering things and loved it when i was able to point to incorrect dealings from the side of the "hardliners".. anyway, i resigned as an elder after 24 years half a year ago, in protest, after having written many and long letters and made sure my action was read and received by many; the issue was the extent of one's contact with disfellowshipped children, where i was not in agreement with official policy.

  Again, sensing that I am repeating myself - thank you, all, for your very nice and compassionate words.

  Is it not strange, that as soon as we start talking to / with each other as persons, individuals, on topics that are "human to human", we find that we are so very similar, parallell, that we understand each other very well, that many of us probably would have made great friends - but that we resort to yelling and name-calling and insulting as soon as we discuss theology / organizational matters?

  Strange indeed - because I feel all of us having posted on this thread have hearts and minds that are so equal - oops! machine goin' down - must leave!

  I really don't understand the importance of the "cross thing"; to me, if He died on a cross or on a stake - the important thing is that He died and was resurrected. I have never bothered to try to tell people it was a stake, not a cross. On the other hand, a preast I went visiting once a week for half a year, and I agreed upon the thought that IF Christianity /Christians should have a symbol of any kind, it ought to have been something showing the opened grave - something like a "globe" or "ball", where the front part was partly covered, partly opened by a flat "stone" rolled half-way away from it.

  The earthquake thing has been abandoned, as you will see in later articles - it died peacefully during the early 90s approximately, although shadows of it still linger. There will be issued in december a revised edition of the Reasoning book, and no doubt the importance of the earthquakes will be nowhere to be found.

  The first quote I don't find disturbing - in the sense that the author said what she is quoted as saying, and that the quote represents her opinion - she does not mean "the most important moment", but "one of the most", and so does the quote say.

  Dia, when earlier tourists, oil well workers, doctors, nurses, UN aid personnel etc. have been abducted by this or similar groups, have you had the same attitude towards these as well, that quote "Probably just marching to their own little tune, as usual. And everybody else is supposed to pay for it." ? Do you feel that when there is unrest in an area, everybody should move out and let the terrorists just take control of the area, and should the inhabitants and others not be allowed to continue with their usual chores? Is not that exactly what these terrorists are after - provokating a militarization of the area in which they are active and through that make people sympathise with them?
