  Barbara Grizzuti Harrison dies at 67

  barbara grizzuti harrison, who emerged as a popular, prolific writer of keenly observed nonfiction with a 1978 book about the dozen years she spent as a jehovah's witness, died on wednesday at a hospice in manhattan.

  she was 67 and lived in the park slope neighborhood of brooklyn.. the cause was chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, said her daughter, anna harrison.

  Thank you for informing me. I remember reading her book, Visions Of Glory, way back when too, I think. I believe I read most it in/around 1978.

  Thats when I went to CCRI (I think it was called RIeJeCect) and I picked up her book from the /lib, but at that time I read it with a more critical eye.

  I thought it was very unusual for a woman to right a book like that, when most if not all that I have come across are written by men.

  someone replied to a post i entered and got me thinking what others perceive about us due to the nicks or id we have chosen.

  some of the nicks i am sure are just self explanatory , others are cute, or simple.

  although i suspect that very many in this room,took time to think of theirs and definitly the nick holds some little secret as to who they are as a person.

  regardless of what others have said about my moniker it has nothing to do with urine.

  You know those fancy programming wizards that many in the computer field become accustomed to.

  It's because I'm pretty good at what I do. Computers, programming them, configuring them, Linux guru, etc. I'm the guy that the Sr. Java Web applications programmers come to and I'm only considered a/the Sr. Programmer Analyst. Bastards.

  In fact I'm doing two entire system compiles right now. It's a killer on this machine. Can't do anything else while I'm doing it so I might as well post.

  hello all... i came across this line of questioning many months on the inet so i decided that i would submit just this once to peer pressure and make a usefull contribution to the board.. here is the question... is jesus just "a god?".

  many of the regular inet surfers would have come across this line of questioning before so if you have you could just sit back and relax and read the replys.. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>.

  me: so is he a 'lesser true god' or a 'lesser false god?'.

  I guess my mistake was to retort with the same level of maturity of AlanF-uck. He started with the name-calling and instead of rising above it, I responded to him in the same manner.

  I've been hard on other people I know. If I was the instigator or initiator of this kind of low-life behavior, I'm sorry. It's not typical of me.

  But seeing AlanF-ucks numerous posts, insults are his standard trade and MO, and they are not directed solely at me. As I will show with the following quote, this kind of behavior from a "lifer" is/was predictable.

  So AlanF, I'm sorry. I should have picked up on it earlier. It's something you can't help. And yes, I am being condescending, but ONLY for your benefit. Hey, I had to get one last one in.

  It's from a book I first read around 1988 and I am in the process of reading it again. I am surprised at all the revisions and updates to this edition. I do find it rather duplicitous (using his words) at times but he does make some valid points.

  I do think many should enjoy the following:

  I originally came to this site seeking camaraderie. A sharing of experiences of people who had the same background I have had. But then I reached a level of awareness that many people here are not here to seek "truth" as I am.

  Many are here trading one lie for another. As long as it is not a lie that the WTB&TS teaches, it's OK. Now, my emphasis has changed somewhat; it is to let many know that they are no better than the people they point the finger at in condemnation. For all-intents-and-purposes, I suppose I am no better. -He said with a false sense of humility.

  I come away many times with the following ringing in my ears: "It's ONLY the WTB&TS lies we are here to expose, and truth be damned."
  
  And I feel that I have proved this point many times. So many can go on ignoring the fact that much as they did when they were part of the WTB&TS, they continue to do now.

  I see threats, scare tactics, incessant insults, discrediting someone for something as small as spelling; which even AlanF has demonstrated even he has not perfected.

  I've noticed that when the "favored" crowd makes these little mistakes, it's overlooked, as it should be. But God forbid when an "outsider" does the same thing.
  
  So go ahead, put a label on me, it ONLY proves the point even further.

  Maybe if there are no spelling mistakes or grammar errors this post will make it to the likes of Nature and Scientific American, unless of course they can't get past that fragmented sentence.

  So ALanF-uck can insult me in other threads, but when I do the same back to him, he doesn't like it.

  He started with the childlike behavior, name-calling and insults. I'm just responding in-kind. It's not in my usual way to insult, but when someone does it to me, I do it right back.

  apostate man - I'm sure we differ about many things, but I'm in agreement with you about AlanF-uck. It must be tough for him to be the smartest living human being on the face of the planet.

  Utopian Reformist -this person proves my point, which I have said all along about these boreds. If you're not liked, threats are used and steps are taken to out a person. A person who doesn't fit into the "favored" group is assailed much in the same way an apostate is from the WTB&TS. Except you guys do it on such minor points as spelling.

  Thanks for proving my point. This place in many many instances is no better than the people you condemn. It's no wonder many people here are afraid to speak up. It's not a place for freedom. It's a place where you have to watch out what you say. I think many people here conform, much as they do in the WTB&TS, so they don't stand out like a sore thumb.

  Who do you think you are ALANF-uck? You start with the name calling and then you put a spin on it like it was me that started with the child like behavior?

  Another weak attempt to prove the Trinity.

  Just wondering when all any will start resorting to the typical insults?

  Oops looks like AlanF-uck has already started. An MO he uses to win arguments, but ONLY with the most "intelligent" people.

  In the beginning....
  A beginning denotes an event; a happening. No event, no beginning. No time.

  If God has existed forever in the past than time is irrelevant to him. There is no "beginning” in this context because there was no event.

  Time in-and-by-itself is meaningless. There is no time if you are not bound by it. God is clearly not bound by it.

  Therefore, there was an event that caused a "beginning." What was that beginning?

  I've always regarded that beginning to mean the CREATION of Jesus (Col 1:13-20). And a CREATION can never be as great as the CREATOR.

  Regarding, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." That is, everything that is contained in that heavens and earth; or, if you will, "bound" by that statement. Since Jesus IS contained in that heavens, there you have your beginning.

  Ps 82:1-8 - work with that one.

  read the dictionary on the definition of god.
  it can simply mean a powerful ruler; which both Jesus and Satan clearly are.

  God as feminine - Then what would Yahweh and the Asherah (consort) connote?
