  Hi Chris,

  Welcome to the board. I just read your story, thanks for sharing this. I share similar views to you but being the "Good" JW never went too far. If you can't get an answer from the elders on the JC no one else can provide an answer, least of all "You Know". Haven't you read enough of his stuff to realize he has his own unique agenda, separate from the rest of us rejectors of the WTS and separate from the Watchtower leadership? You Know's role here is to hasten "the end of the world", find odd news clips and fringe people to quote and then to add his own liberal quantity of Biblical passages to support the "evidence". You name it, You Know's got a prophetic parallel.

  As a trained lawyer, I'd be interested in your thoughts on the whole JW Judicial process and what a one-sided form of "justice" (word used very loosely). I glad you got out so quickly and that your wife joined you...oh to get married to someone knowing they'd be disfellowshipped in a couple of days!

  Hi Sarah,

  Welcome to the board. It's a good place to vent and to let others know of the contoling methods of the WTS/JWs. Your brother's is a really sad story. It is much worse and so hypocritical knowing that most of the male members including the elders engage in the activity your brother confesses to and for which he gets restrictions placed on him. The difference for the others is the "DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL" policy.

  As for "hips touching" that is ridiculous. They might as well have sex and confess and have no less penalties. It seems your brother is so caught up in this he has become blind to the way he is treated. I hope you can talk to him, he has told you lots already can you get him to express his real feelings?

  It serves as a warning to others. DON"T GET MIXED UP WITH THIS RELIGION AS IT SCREWS YOU UP!

  paine lived in the 17th century and was an agnostic.

  Hi UO,

  Moses didn't write it. Maybe he wrote some of it, but Genesis as well as most of the oldest Hebrew scriptures are a compilation of numerous writings. Genesis tells most tales twice, often overlaid and embedded in each other. Since the Hebrew scripture we know today were compiled around the time of the Babylonian captivity period you can bet that they contain details in the history written long after the events.

  Anyway, since Genesis contains a lot of myth, Adam and Eve, Noah, the tower of Babel, why should the history be treated as absolutely accurate?

  a plane crash in siberia

  dont really know why i'm posting this on a jw forum.

  i found the story very sad.

  i work for an airline and live not too far from the place of the accident.. .

  I had a similar experience but not as scary. I flew UK to Bulgaria on a TU154. The aircraft has a large but low undercarriage for use on gravel airstrips and consequently entry had to be made from steps rather than a jetway. The overhead luggage racks were open like on buses, there were no other niceties on the plane compared to Western designs. When the plane began the landing approach the cabin lights were turned off completely and the airconditioning filled the cabin with a light mist which made it really eerie!

  I have had much scarier rides in the US flying in snow storms and severe cold and on one plane when it it took 2 hours to get an engine started after the Captain reported he had "flooded" it trying to start the engine in -20 F temps.

  It is always sad when a plane goes down. I was sickened when I saw the news footage of the Concorde crash last year. It meant something much more to me as I had worked on Concorde components as a young engineer and toured the factory when it was being being built.

  There were many good things that you stated and I feel the same way about many of points you made.

  The Future! In the aftermath of what comes about in the next few months ... I feel that many more will leave the JWs or stop studying and walk away. This issue alone may be enough to send the Watch Tower numbers spiraling down.

  I sometimes wonder just how many people are in the process of leaving, those that go through the motions of being a JW but are reading all the Internet info that is out there. How many in addition to the 2000+ registered members here are lurking in the background and to whom the "fit hitting the shan" is not going to be a real surprise but the final motivation to get out?

  Talking of numbers: the 2170 members here is more than the peak number of JW's in 105 countries. There are more members here than JWs in Alaska and double the number in Israel. "Truly a mighty nation..." as the say in Watchtowerland.

  I think this should be posted on the relevant board as it is a bit off topic. However, I used to dash home after the Sunday morning Watchtower study to watch F1. No after-meeting FS for me. Those were the days of Murray Walker and James Hunt as commentators.

  These days I get up at 6:30 am on Sundays to watch F1 when it is raced in Europe. However, it is not just a European Sport, since races are run in Canada, the US and Brazil as well as the far east and Australia...OK, so all the the teams are European with some Japanese engines (which can be said about the design of the majority of open-wheel race cars including CART and Indy.)

  Michael S will win the championship, not that I'm a fan of his. I don't think David Coulthard has a chance now. Brother Ralf could have a real chance next year if the Williams team continues to improve in the way it has this season.

  Thanks Maximus,

  An excellent piece, I will save it for future reference. When you see the dishonesty in these quotes it makes you wonder about everything the WTS quotes. The Creator book is crammed full of unidentified quotes, many of which, I would guess knowing the expertise of the authors quoted, are taken out of context. If wish I had the time to find the source of the quotes.
