I'd like to see this new directive in writing. I also like to hear Lee Elder's view and find out if he has heard of this change. Maybe I should contact the HIS on London and ask directly.

it seems that the latest directive from his at the branch office is the following.. .
hlc members are not to direct jw parents to refuse blood for their children any more.. in the past uk doctors could easily get a court order to force jw children to have a blood transfusion.
but the parents always had to refuse completely so that court action almost always took place.

apparently so, and so were his forebears.
by the time dairy farming reached the backwater of europe, known as great britain (or britain if you are a km writer even though no such place exists) six and half thousand years ago it was already long established in the rest of neolithic europe.
it seems the dairy farmers in the british isles were fond of eating meat as well and thought nothing of slaughtering some of their herds for food.
Hi Farkel,
that stupid talking snake messed him up.
I fear Sony is making the same mistake. TVs and Walkmans are great but diversifying into robotic animals is a bad move. I bet Adam's problem (not forgetting his snake spoke with a Stephen Hawking accent) was getting the legs to work properly. I bet God snapped them off in fustration.

with all the information we have nowadays, out of sheer curiousity, do any of you know your blood type?
for some, i know the blood-issue is a touchy subject, but it's interesting to know it.
you'd be surprised especially when the case of an rh-negative mother may give birth to an rh-positive child.
Mine is A+. I didn't know until my son was born -- he has my bood type.
I studied human biology at college a few years back (I was considering combining my experience in engineering with medical equipment/device manufacture...it never worked out but I thoroughly enjoyed the course) and had to write two papers for my exam. I wanted to do a study of blood types and inheritance but by the late 80's non-medical college students were barred from handling human blood. I ended up instead, breeding, identifying anomalies and sexing 2,500 fruit flies (6 generations) for my population genetics paper. I got an A for my work, probably for the effort of counting with a magnifying glass and fine paint brush.

this issue has already furnished a couple of threads, but the cover picture really has haunted my mind since i saw it .. a vivid red border bears the big title "child prostitution a tragic reality" .
it is a monochrome image a little girl ,pre teen age.
she looks asian and is garishly clothed in a printed dress.
We have to remember that the publisher's of the Awake teach that the real solution to child prositituon, as well as child labor, child malnutrition, disease etc, is for their God to kill all the suffering children without any chance of future life, and all because their parents are going to die too. Try asking the next JW peddling magazines to provide an explanation about what their "good news" really means.

tonight i watched the movie about a boy with hugh grant.
there was a scene where he was having christmas dinner with a bunch of friends and they were sitting around the table wearing paper crowns.
my kids get a paper crown at school on their birthday but i suspect around first grade they won't be doing that anymore.
Hi Stephanus,
I can pick and choose. Even as a J-Dub I enjoyed Christmas, the extended holiday period between Christmas and New Year and the TV specials and the first run movies (even enduring the Queen's speach while waiting for the movie to start at 3:15) . In more recent years with the advent of Video, there aren't many films worth watching that we haven't seen at the theater or on video already. That probably contributes to the view expressed by many corresponants to the BBC news web site that British TV over Christmas was crap. US TV is just as bad and I didn't watch any TV on Christmas day last year. Christmas is totally different for me now.
I still think the best Christmas we had when I was a JW was the Christmas Day we spent at Christies Beach SA, 1970.

i'm learning all sorts of fascinating things here.
recently i've noticed a lot of people making reference to four-door cars as being the only ones approved by jws.
is this for real?
Being English I owned several two door cars including an original Mini (and saying two doors on a Mini is being very generous). No one ever commented on my choice of car. I knew an elder who used to use his Lotus and later his Porche for FS and we used to complain that it didn't look very good parking that type of car in some council estate (public housing). However, field service, even in rural territory is done differently in the UK compared to the US. (OK my experience of FS in the USA is very limited because I quickly went inactive after my move). Quite frequently in my UK experience (30 years or so), we walked from the home where we met for FS to the territory. FS meant walking door to door often, literally, steping from one door step to the next and not returning to the car until we had finished for the morning. On one occasion while working a terrace (town homes), because I didn't wait long enough, I had two householders come to two doors at the same time and had to speak to both.
I thought FS in the UK was inefficient, with long periods spent chatting whist stood at doors where people were obviously not home, and extremely slow walking (the pioneer plod) between homes. In middle class suburban America the density of housing is considerably less than the UK and FS, done in groups from cars, is even less efficient especially when working not at homes. It takes 6 people to make a call, 2 to knock the door and 4 to sit in the car.
Thus, you can see why four-door cars are an advantage. However, 4 doors on a Mini still doesn't help get six people inside.

PS A month ago I spotted an original Austin Mini (with for sale notice) in the parking lot of my local Home Depot. I spoke to owner, he wanted $4000 for a 20 year old car. I told him I once bought a 12 year old mini for $800, drove it for 2 years, put 40,000 miles on the clock and sold it for $600. It was the least expensive motoring I ever experienced.

R,
I've introduced party hats, via Christmas crackers, to my new family in the US. Two years ago I bought some English made crackers from a local store and this past Christmas I bought some imported from Canada (Quebec actually and the jokes were all about the English). We all wore the party hats after groaning at the awful jokes (although I did learn an Elephant joke I had not heard before). The other English tradition we enjoy (well I do) is Christmas pudding and Scully on this board helped me find a source in the US for imported English foods. The last time I visited my old home town I bumped in to a JW acquaitance whilst shopping in Tescos and choosing Christmas puddings to return to the US with.
The strange thing is, I never, ever, celebrated Christmas when I lived in England. Now I want to enjoy the traditions and customs of my former home even though I have no experience of them.

just out of curiosity, now that it's been 6 weeks since we had our visit from the elders..... how many of us have been called on by the elders??
what have been the results of the visit?.
love, scully
No one's called me. It's early days yet, don't they have till March to call on all the inactives?
I haven't attended a meeting in nearly 6 years and I moved house 5 1/2 years ago. I am listed in the phone book and at least one elder knows I live in the locality because his son attends school with my son.
I am quite prepared and have a copy of the letter sent to all BOEs to reference.

anybody go to the assemblies in dudley ?!?!.
its just around the corner but its the first time i won't be going and i dont feel any guilt about it !!!.
hahahaha!!.
I used to attend Dudley until about 8 years ago. I was there at the dedication weekend in the mid 70s. The balcony was always hot and stuffy in the afternoon and combined with the boring program caused much drowsiness.
The town of Dudley must do a roaring trade at the weekend, especially the fast-food places after the "simplification." I know my ex-wife liked to spend Saturday afternoons shopping and skipped most of the PM program.
