just wanted to run an informal poll to see how "effective" or hopelessly "ineffective" the borg tract assimilation drive has been.. i for one, have not received the tract, and i live in densely populated development.
did anybody get it left in their doors/mailboxes?.
Is it over yet? Has religion ended?
Nope, not yet and it's nearly November. Oops, maybe they missed us. We only had a half dozen 'trick-or-treaters' too and that was before 6:30 pm, before I got home. Maybe our end of the cul-de-sac with just 9 houses isn't worth bothering with. Sadly, JW-eternal life is more to do with where you are born and where you choose to live.

this week elder z shows up at my house twice, unexpectedly.
the first time i didn't see him, but my daughter did and didn't answer the door.
the next time i decided not to answer the door since i didn't feel like talking to him.
Did this elder turn up alone? If he did and you are a "sister" he is breaking the rules or at least the Society's guidelines. If he did, you have justification in not opening the door to him. Tell him if he calls again you'll complain about his conduct to the CO. Put him on the spot and on the defense.

in the past whenever you went on vacation (holiday) did you try and find a kingdom hall to attend and also try and put in some service time?.

We only visited KHs a couple of times on vacation. Once in Italy, didn't understand anything and the Watchtower study was a month behind ours. We met other English speaking JDubs and found a couple of degress of separation.
We were totally ignored in Penzance, Cornwall as just more tourist JWs.
On one vacation, Mrs Thirdson and I visited an Anglican Church on Vancouver Island where the congregation in attendance was about 14. The visitors (2) were formally invited to stay for coffee and snacks. Quite nice actually.

nearly 30 years ago, i was severely criticized for deciding to go to college by many in my congregation and my "priviliges" were restricted as a result.. today, i am happy to say that the world has not ended and my son moved in to his college dorm.
in the last 30 years, without the "new system" we have all relied on trained medical staff for our healthcare needs.
it's a pity my oldest brother never became the doctor he'd dreamed of.

PS I used the term "happy" in a loose way as I had a whole mix of emotions today.
the thread about got me thinking about my very early childhood, back when witnesses were allowed to be social and have get togethers.
they also had a piano in every congregation i ever attended, and an older sister would always play the kingdom melody.
there was actual singing - not mindless droning and humming.
I'm old enough to remember (just) the green songbook. Back in the olden days (as my son says - the 60s) we had a piano and it was played by one of two "anointed" sisters. There was always a small orchestra at the assemblies too. Uniformity and conformity forced most congregations to get rid of their pianos and live music.
Congregations were first provided with gramophone records, then cassette tapes. Weddings with recorded music were terrible, including my first. After the bride had made her entrance there was that screech as the needle was lifted abruptly. Later this would be the thunk of the stop button being pressed mid-song on a tape-recording. (After 1984 only WTS music was to be played in the KH for weddings).
After being raised as a JW and having endured canned music during worship all my life I found church music to be a wonderful experience. I have attended churches where the music was so important is was almost idolatry but, the music, the choir and the musicians were incredible. When Mrs Thirdson and I were married, a friend, who is a church musician/choir director, played at our wedding. There was no needle screeching at the end of the procession!

PS Farkel should relate his experience as a teen KH piano player extraordinaire
wifey and i were basically non-drinkers whilst in the dubland fantasy.
now we drink an occasional glass of wine or pina colada.. we're not very imaginative with it.
i know some understand the fruit of the vine well [like our buddy in oz, ozzie] and others enjoy mixed drinks.. which ones - and how do you make 'em?.
The only mixed drink I make is the occasional dry Manhattan. The best version is the "Sioux Falls Radisson" version which I had made by a novice bar tender when I submitted my free drink coupon. My ratio was converted into 5 shots of Bourbon and 2 shots of dry Vermouth. It was the most intoxicating cocktail I've ever had. I tried it the next day but the regular bar tender knew how to make one. Tasted good but the volume was lacking.

Hi all,
Haven't posted anything in ages but I still frequent this place to see what's going on. It's true the JW's have visited and more are to come (or will be present.) Actually, a pair of late-teen girls called when Mrs Thirdson was home. Mrs T was polite and chatted with them for a few minutes. When the JW girl asked if she could call again Mrs T. told them that Mr. T was a JW once and no they shouldn't call again as they'd be wasting their time. Mrs T. knows a great deal about the JW religion.
The other JWs visiting are my parents. (I invited them.) We have not had a great relationship since I left the religion and in particular when I was dating a "worldly" girl (Mrs T). They made lame excuses about why they couldn't attend our wedding (6 years ago). However, we never cut the lines of communication and though I am not close to any of my family I regularly call my parents and e-mail news and pictures. The past few years have healed rifts and if my parents were really good JWs they shouldn't be speaking to me since by my actions I have shown that I am not a JW anymore (I attend and am a member of another church). They do in fact speak to me and have had meals with me when I have visited. Last year our daughter was born. My parents have only seen pictures so their visit to the USA is mainly to see their 12th grandchild. We plan to spend a few days at my in-laws lake home (we call it the cabin but its as big as my house and a whole lot nicer) just to relax and enjoy peace and quiet. While there I'll be fetching my son from college (yes, he starts in August and plans nursing as his major) so he can spend the weekend with us. After that, we'll visit some places of interest in northern Minnesota and return to our home and visit the local attractions near us.
They should have a really nice time and enjoy some things they've never before experienced. Our daughter is really pretty (were biased of course) and is a really happy little girl. My parents may never get over the fact that the Thirdson family is not a JW family but then again hardly any of their kids families stayed JWs. They will see that life with Thirdson is not that bad despite all the terrible things he's done. Despite what the WTS teaches about further education my parents are quite proud that their grandson is attending college and I would guess that one or both of my parents will want to come with me to the campus when I go collect him even though it will be a 6-7 hour road trip.
We have a few busy weeks ahead, we are in the process of a major remodelling job (planned for a long time) and moving my son to a college dorm. But, I am looking forward to my parents visit and to taking some time off work.

i have this memory of going to a da back in the mid to late seventies -- i was about 8 years old -- and there was a special field service campaign.
seems to me that one of the assembly days was shortened and everyone was given a service kit -- some tracts in a plastic bag -- and everyone was to go out and preach for the remainder of the afternoon.
i remember going with my dad to get in line to pick up the bag of tracts and then going into the neighborhood around the stadium to witness.
I took part in the special campaign when I was at Dodger Stadium in 1978. We were given yellow plastic bags with some JW message on them. The dismissive attitude of the good folk in LA were no different from that of the people of my home town. It must have been either Friday or Saturday morning.

i wonder how many here have already posted on the old h20 hourglass outpost-board?
it started to be a reform website and was one of the first sites i dared to register.
took some time for me to see the truth.
I posted on h2o for a while after 2000 but I lurked there for years. It was part of my awakening in 1996 when I first started looking up JW related pages on the internet.
