10 minutes marking anything in yellow highlighter, 15 minutes if I actually found the answers. I once hadn't highlighted my copy and was asked to read. I declined stating, honestly, I hadn't prepared. (I could have read it better than most without ever pre-reading a paragraph) The PO stormed off to ask someone else. I was dropped from the rota and wasn't asked to read again for 3 years by which time I had been an elder for a year).

I don't know how reliable Wikipedia is:
"It was often attacked by Egypt, besieged by Shalmaneser V, who was assisted by the Phoenicians of the mainland, for five years, and by Nebuchadnezzar (586–573 BC) for thirteen years, without success, although a compromise peace was made in which Tyre paid tribute to the Babylonians. It later fell under the power of the Persians.
In 332 BC, the city was conquered by Alexander the Great, after a siege of seven months in which he built the causeway from the mainland to the island, [ 13 ] but it continued to maintain much of its commercial importance until the Christian era. The presence of the causeway affected water currents nearby, causing sediment to build up, making the connection permanent."3rd

I watched this movie by chance last night (11/18/09). I missed the start but the name 'Jehovah' caught my attention. It was very good, and difficult (emotionally) to watch in parts. It was a very accurate portrayal right down to the melodies sung. Some people (like the real person this movie was based on) sacrificed a lot more more than me on leaving. It's a 'much watch' for anyone who has been involved with JWs

Mrs Thirdson was 22 when we first met and I was 38, divorced with a 10 yr old son. We dated for 2 years before we got married. She became a step mom and cared for my son through the teenage years without difficulty. We knew what life would be like together, and knew there'd be some challenges. I put a limit on how old I would want to be still raising kids. Our daughter was born 4 years ago. Mrs Thirdson had some financial independance and was debt free after acheiving her degree. She pursued a career in non-profit orgs and after our daughter was born became a stay at home mom. Raising a small child, paying for pre-school education and funding my son's college education puts a strain on our income but we survive on a single income and live within our means. Our age difference poses some challenges for retirement planning and Mrs Thirdson could easily live for 20 years or more after I pass away.
Mrs Thirdson's parents had no problem with her dating and marrying me. My parents didn't want me dating a non-JW even though they knew I was not attending meetings. We married at an Episcopal Cathedral and had the acting Dean a female priest officiate. My parents didn't attend. However, we got through this difficulty and my parents came to stay with us for 2 weeks recently. (This was their second trip and 2 years ago we took a vacation and spent 2 weeks with them.)
Mrs Thirdson and I have been happily married for nine years. Some things just happen and they turn out fine.

That is what Mrs Thirdson said when I told her JWs were in our road and didn't stop at our house. It was only 80 today but the humidity made it feel over 90. Sunday afternoon and I am sanding the deck rails at the front of my house. I notice two men in dark suits and ties (good grief!) walking back to a large sedan parked across the street 3 houses down. I don't think anyone was at home locally, just me, and I was making plenty of noise. Anyway, I walked back to the garage and then into the house. No one knocked.
This is the second time I've noticed that we are skipped. The last was in the fall when all three of us were in our yard raking leaves, we didn't even get a tract. Not that I care. I guess the one and only encounter with me (I have lived at this adress 12 years) and that discussion on JWs' only unique belief was enough to earn a special note on the territory card.

"Sermon Outlines" found a copy in a drawer
by Decided inmy wife was cleaning out a drawer and found this old booklet from my jw days.

Ken,
I vaguely remember Sermon Outlines from the 60s when I was a kid. Sunday morning "Sermon Work" used topics which included three scriptures from that booklet. The Reasoning Book was produced later to handle questions and responses and could be used openly. Sermon Outlines was always hidden in your book bag.
