  i know i'm setting myself up here, but here it goes.

  first of all if you want to crack funnies about this or jokes, that's perfectly cool, it's alright, i don't mind.

  however this is a true story from what happened in may and my motive for writing about this is not just humor, but i want to see if anybody else has experienced what my son went through while being in the mountains or anywhere.

  That's really neat! Those who say things are not possible have no imagination and would have us still living in the dark ages.

  You should read the novella "Escape From Katmandu" by Kim Stanley Robinson.

  I once wrote a short story based on the ancient Bristlecone Pine Trees in the Inyo National Forest and Sasquatch. I drew on my ex JW knowledge of the "nephilim" and "immortal beings". Everyone in my creative writing class loved it!!!

  There are more things out there than we can even imagine...

  As a JW were you ever counseled about clothes you wore, or lack thereof ?

  thought this could get interesting discussing experiences.

  i for one was trying to reach out for ministerial servant again in the early 90's , had been one before, and was assigned to carry the microphones one meeting.

  had an elder call me in the back room and say , " brother flipper, i noticed looking down towards your shoes that you are wearing white socks today.

  In the early 70's I got told about wearing my ankle-length "hippie" skirts. Also my rimless granny-glasses were unnacceptable. So then, soon after, I wore a teeny weeny bikini to a JW pool-party, traumatizing the PO--a fossil with a Czech accent--I can almost remember his name. I remember my Mom laughing at me because I jumped out of the water, wrapped a towel around myself, and told her I was trying to hide my bikini from Brother "so-and-so".

  ....and it's called college!.

  that's right, the ultimate evil college is calling my name and i've fallen into the temptation.. my goal is to attend my old university starting in january.

  i attended there about 5 years ago but dropped out to further my borg opportunities.

  my best friend showed up where i work to see what's going on with me.

  i haven't called her since she told an elder at my hall that i was falling out of the truth, little does she know i've fallen and i don't want to get up.. i told her i had now done my research and i absolutely don't believe it.

  she said she didn't want to hear my apostate stuff.

  i work with this jw but was recently df.

  prior to the convention i noticed the "sister" would talk to me normally as if i wasn't even df.

  she just brushed it aside and i really appreciated her mature, professional behaviour towards me.. since she attended the dc however she's been acting cold towards me.

  I was dragged into the religion as a very young child and always really hated the meetings and loooong conventions. Always felt so guilty about that too. I also hated field service.

  I can understand that some of those who were converted as adults would find the talks "spiritually uplifting" though. Why else would they sit through them?

  My brother just told our Mom that he "really enjoyed" last month's DC. Better him than me sitting there getting bored to tears, is what I have to say about that!

  A disproportionate number of those who are homeless have severe mental illnesses, particularly schizophrenia.

  This is so true. I have much more empathy for these "street people" now that I realize this. My own son has been out there even though he has a home with me. At times that is where he prefers to be--he often tries to preach to people when he is in a manic-religious state but he usually just talks to himself.

  I remember an older man named Herbie who "lived" in a major intersection in Phoenix, AZ. He was a war vet and was obviously schizophrenic. He would sweep out the corner Jack-inthe Box for spare change and a daily burger. He had a lawn chair and even a radio set up in the island near the curb. He sometimes felt the need to sweep the intersection and would stop traffic. Once he was even perched atop the signal pole! Everybody knew him. One night he was struck and killed by a car in his intersection.

  Well that's both good and bad. On one hand it's great if they are easing up a bit on the beard thing, but it also means that his cong just may be OK with it and he is not veering away from this religion.

  Also--this is just not fair. If they allow men to wear facial hair now they should let the women dress in pants.

  A great book to read on the "creative" aspects of bipolar is Touched With Fire, by Kay Redfield Jamieson.
