Interested Person kills Bethelite in German Kingdom Hall, later is killed by train
by processor inon saturday, 35 jehovah's witnesses gathered in their kingdom hall near frankfurt and sat over coffee and cake (for whatever reason, maybe pioneer school or some other event).
suddenly a 20-year-old man (according to most sources "not a jw yet, but wanted to become one"; though one source claims that he would have been an auxiliary pioneer) took a knife from the cake buffet and killed a 45-year-old bethelite (maybe a circuit overseer).. today the murderer was killed by a train - supposedly suicide.. .

I read that he had been baptized for two years and that he had a history of mental illness. He was perhaps being DFed or shunned. This is a tragedy for both and the responsible party is the WTS and their stupid DFing policy.

Does anyone remember when women could be servants in the congregation?
by Bonnie_Clyde inthis was before the elder arrangement.
in the 1950's our congregation servant's wife handled the accounts--by appointment from the society.
in the early 1960's it was a practice to allow a sister to handle the congregation book study if there was a shortage of brothers.

I remember once when I was a little kid--one Tuesday noght only women showed up at the book study, except for the conductor. He told his wife she could read the paragraphs but needed to find a head covering. She didn't have a hat so she dug an old kleenex out of her purse and sat there through the evening with a snotrag on her head.
I can't recall any women ever being given priviledges but in some places where there was a shortage of men it may have occurred. I do remember hearing about women conducting meetings in remote areas but I was told that if there were even a young teenage boy he should be made to step up to the plate, rather than let a woman do any "teaching".

I got my balls tampered with by a geezer.
That is really sick!! Is this true?
Well, if they check out the guys' stuff then I'm sure they might just do a check on the girls.
eeeeew!
I remember reading about how in the late fifties the women's colleges like Wellesley made all their applicants got their picture taken from the waist up--nude--as part of the admissions procedure. Supposedly for "health" reasons.(haha, yeah, right!) Since Bethel is approximately 60 years behind the times as far as basic human rights and decency then I can believe just about anything.
Maybe the female Bethel applicants have to have a gynocological exam like Princess Dianna had to have prior to her marriage with Charles. And maybe they even take pictures!!! Maybe the good ole boys in the GB pore over these pictures on lonely nights...oh, I digress. Sorry. Of course not!

Pavarotti..Liquid Gold
Oh my! It is so strange to read that. I first heard him sing over 20 years ago when Pope John Paul was in Chicago and Pavarotti was singing "Ave Maria" in a cathedral there and it was on the evening news. I was in my mother's kitchen and I ran out into the living room saying, "Who is that singing? He has a voice like liquid gold." I became a fan, then, of opera, because of his exquisite voice and it has SO enriched my life. My eldest daughter has even become an opera singer.
A couple of months ago I was driving in my car and was playing a CD of him singing "Che Gelida Manina" from La Boheme. As if by magic, a great cloud of yellow butterlfies enveloped my car--they seemed to come out of nowhere. Soon after that I told my Mother that I was afraid the world was going to lose him soon. I had some sort of premonition. Today, driving home from work I knew that he had died and sure enough, it was on the TV when I got home. I thought about posting it here and then thought that no one would care or even know who he was. (None of the people I work with has ever heard of him) I was so happy to see this post.
Our world has lost a thing of great beauty today. I am so grateful that he was able to share his great gift with all of us for so long.

Interesting tidbit from a bethalite
by Princess Daisy Boo inso my "bethalite" sister calls me last night for a chat (now i must digress slightly and say that conversations with my sister are few and far between - we have very little to say to each other and any calls to each other are merely out of duty) .
after all the small talk, she tells me that she was doing stocktake in the tuckshop for a change instead of the usual housekeeping job that she is meant to do.
i ask her why and she tells me that all the dept's within bethal who keep a supply of products have to do a stocktake in preparation for the big courtcase on friday.

The Methodists have women ministers. I attended a church called the Unity Church for a time and it had quite a few women in high positions. Also, I can't remember the name, but a funeral I attended for a pastor of a local church a speaker that was the equivalent of a JW District Overseer, and she was definitely a woman. This was a fairly fundamental Christian church, too.

Too bad JW women in the USA don't start realizing their constitutional rights. What a bunch of 17th century dimwits they are. I am always amazed at the progression of women in the ministry in other Christian churches while the JWs stay in the dark ages.

Fading? What's up?
by arker ini was a jw, finally saw my chance and wrote a letter to the elders saying how bad i am and how i don't want to meet to discuss it and to df me if you want.
that was the end of it for me.
my question is if you know you are "fading" you are already gone so why not make the leap?

I, too, suffered horribly growing up in the WT cult. But I totally understand the reluctance of some to do a quick DF or DA when there are beloved children or grandchildren involved. I've known too many people who have lost all contact with their children and grandchildren, my poor brother included. Everyone's circumstances are different.
