Is not true that he wrote that while in a french prison, awaiting an uncertain fate among the chaos of the revolution, thinking this might be his last word?, Writing in prison isolation he had amazing grasp of the details of the scriptural oddities he refuted. a must read.

Has anyone out here read Thomas Paine's "Age of Reason"?
by Captain Schmideo2 ini wish i had read this back when i was 18. it's an amazing take down of religious beliefs, the bible, and religion in general.
) a "reason"-able manner.take this quote, from near the beginning:.
when also i am told that a woman, called the virgin mary, said, or gave out, that she was with child without any cohabitation with a man, and that her betrothed husband, joseph, said that an angel told him so, i have a right to believe them or not: such a circumstance required a much stronger evidence than their bare word for it: but we have not even this; for neither joseph nor mary wrote any such matter themselves.

Numbers 31:17 and 18
by schnell innow therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
but all the women children that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.. *sigh*.
it's not that i haven't seen this passage before.

"You Wouldn't Believe How Many Have Crawled Back To The Meetings"
by minimus inthat's a comment i heard from an elder i haven't seen in over a decade, yesterday.
i mentioned it all on my other thread.
i responded that i knew of no one that was crawling back to the meetings and gave him an incredulous hearty chuckle.

"crawling"? That is probably how some elders view their "sheep " arriving for meetings anyway, all dressed and dolled up in deference to them, the glorious ones. Fishers of men, there are actually crawling fish, mudskippers. crawling mudskippers, caught in "the fishnet".

Are they beating us ???? According to Matt. 24:48..
by tor1500 init occurred to me the other day...the society is loading us up on all types of ways to reach others....jw.org, all types of literature, all types of different ideas, maybe you could use the tools jehovah gave us this way or perhaps you can use it that way, maybe you can volunteer, maybe you can go where the need is greater, maybe you can give more $$$, maybe you can give more time, maybe you can look at how you can be in the ministry more, maybe you can meditate more, maybe you can do this or that for your family study, maybe you can talk to a seasoned witness & find out how they.....& i know there are tons of other things maybe we can do....or yes, forgot this one, maybe you can quit your job....then maybe you can get some rest, because you can't serve jehovah when you are tired.
how can you get more rest if, you don't have no money to live indoors...anyway, with all these maybe's we can do..... it came to my mind that the gb isn't here as of yet & it seems the org.
is pressing the friends for bible studies...they are saying....we are giving you all these tools & so why are you not getting bible studies or return visits...it's almost as if they are brow-beating us...do more because the society has given you more...it's not us, folks just ain't listening to us at the door any more....they are not even opening up the door.

tThe tools provided are useless , even if they are on electronic devices. in the developed world anyway, and so are the constant unrealistic demonstrations in the hall about how to use them. and the invitation campaigns. useless for their aims, except to keep the jws hamsters busy. A holy horde accumulating a hoard of "hours"

Around 100 billion people have died
by Funchback inaccording to some, the earth may have 10 billion people living on it by the end of this century.
there is genuine concern about space and resources.. imagine, then, 100 billion people being resurrected to live on earth.
some jws will argue that not everyone will be resurrected to earth, including 144,000. imagine 50 billion then, assuming that half of the people who ever lived did something so horrific that they aren't deemed worthy to be resurrected.. jws who are lurking and reading this: where are they going to live?

During my bible study I was told that if necessary, Jehovah could always make the earth bigger.
or make the people smaller, Anyway we are safe, The resurrected ones always seem to live on the other side of these mountains in those wt paradise renderings. Godd things that they don't marry and have children.

JWs take a page out of the Trinitarian playbook to support the generation of 1914
by OneGenTwoGroups inback in the "good old days", i would look for people in my territory, especially ministers in order to debate the trinity with them.
it was my pet subject that i had spent many hours over several years researching.
i was such a good anti-trinity apologist that i was actually disappointed with the trinity brochure when it came out.

The move to have the proponent define the "thing" is a good debating tool.
Ask whether " all the things" Jesus predicted would include Armageddon, and have them prove it, then
Ask the jw to define the length of the overlapping anointed generation from 1914 to----? Make him/her commit to the wt charts, ends with rapture, at the beginning of the Great Tribulation, then ask: " so the generation passes, ends at that point? . Then have them read Mat 24:34. "-- generation will not pass.
added, after the previous, while I was writing seconds ahead, post by p.a. shows: The generation ends at the beginning of the Great tribulation, it, and Armageddon happens after the anointed are gone.
The wt overlapping anointed generation is not what it seems to be. scripturally true, but the talking snake is.

Why is religion in general so obsessed with what people choose to do with their willies and vaginas?
by jambon1 inwhat was it in the evolution of religion that got them so hung up about what people do with their genitalia?.
i mean, the (mis)use of genitalia is up there with murdering another human being in terms of badness.. and in the 21st century, we have a situation where in the jw religion, it's deemed as acceptable for three middle aged/old men to sit a teenage girl down and ask her the details of her use of her genitals.
to any normal person this is intrusive, completely inappropriate and bordering on deviancy.. why they so obsessed?.

Religion, family structure and a successful life.
by SouthCentral inthis morning (12/3/16) on fox and friends ( a news show on the fox network) there was a great news piece.
it featured one of the newscasters and her parents, who happened to be the former governor of utah (jon huntsman).
religion ( the mormon church) has obviously played a large role in their family life.

JWs can have great families, what with J&j, the angels and the elders watching over the faithfulness of parents, rearing their kids, but Mormons, Hindus, Jewish people often have great families too, but real education counts, is primary goal, not awake college.
thanks djs,

Wow skepsis, what a nice flowing piece by a non english mother tongue speaker. glad you realized the wt bureaucracy* destroying what should be a great personal "christian" experience. Hang in, free yourself, a great life is ahead.
* from the french "eau" for water (like in truth) and cracy with a "z".
