Hello all......some things that have happened during the past week have made me think about exJws and honor. We all remember 'theocratic warfare' and how it is ok to lie to those who don't deserve the truth. So, my question is.....are exJws as a group more dishonest than people from other religious groups? Are we quicker to turn on friends and acquaintances? Are we more likely to assume the worst in others? Do we have a harder time accepting responsibility for our actions? Especially if those actions have caused another to be hurt? Do we go to outrageous lengths to justify those actions?

Please Respond To Survey! 25 more needed please.
by Big Jim init seems like to me the majority of people who are in the truth, are were in the truth was a result of either a family member are a friend witnessing to them and not many seem to have been found in the door to door work.. from my years of associating with the borg i cannot recall many coming in the truth from the door to door work.. how were you sucked in?
for me it was my aunt who has now even though i am not disfellowshipped decided to write me out of her will to the tune of about $150,000.00 (maybe i should hang around a couple more years)dont think i will.. please respond .

As a newbie I am not sure I should even reply to this post.....but as a ex-lurker on this and your site I think I will anyway.
First, I am not offended by the "F" word.....What I AM offended by is the pedophile cover-ups and the bogus disfellowshipping practices of the WTB&TS....among other things. More people are hurt by the latter than the former.

Is God Faithful?
by ticatoo ingod is by definition all knowing.
as an omniscient being, what is there that would require faith on god's part?.
god tells us in the bible to be like him... "be ye perfect, even as your father in heaven is perfect".. .

SJ,
You said......
"First, you have misunderstood the words of my Lord when he said that we must be 'perfect' as my Father is 'perfect'. That 'perfection' had to do with being 'perfect'... in love. Loving our ENEMIES, rather than just those we consider friends. You might want to go back to verse 43... and start there."
You have assumed that I have misunderstood this. I've never liked assumptions. They always impede communication. And yet I am guilty of making one when I assumed that we all had the same understanding of the word perfection. Rather than fussing over who has misunderstaood the term and who has not, let's go to the Dictionary and use a generally accepted definition of perfect.
I have picked the American Heritage Dictionary more or less at random, but you are welcome to go to http://www.onelook.com/ and choose from a number of dictionaries to compare and contrast the various definitions of 'perfect'. I think that you will find them all to be pretty consistent. As with all dictionaries, the American Heritage supplies a number of definitions, startng with the most common and moving to the more specialized and least-used. I am quite certain that the scriptures did not tell us to have pistils and stamens as our father who is in heaven has pistils and stamens.... so I think we can throw out that one. I propose that the most common definition is the one we are most likely to agree on.
My next mistake was in assuming that I could briefly mention a well-known bible verse and everyone who read my question would understand that God wants us to be perfect like Him. Obviously, a few more examples are called for:
Deut. 18;13 Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.
1Kings 8;61 Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.
2Cor 13;11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
2 Tim3;17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
James 1;4 But let patience have [her] perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
And as long as we are on the subject, here is one of my favorites, wherein Jesus gives us explicit directions in how to be perfect:
Matt 19;21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go [and] sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come [and] follow me. I can't help marvelling at how few of us are really willing to follow Jesus' instructions in this regard.
Now... with our definiton of 'perfect' identified, and with multiple references to show that our Heavenly Father wants us to be perfect in the same way (AS... and WITH) as him, can we return to my original question?
"If God has no need for faith, being all-knowing, and if we are commanded to be perfect as and with God, shouldn't we be more diligent about obtaining knowledge than we are about having or obtaining faith?"

Could it be so simple? Truth via so much fear?
by Celtic inas i look upon the life journey to date i cannot help but wonder why things have to be as complicated as they are.. life throughout the jw experience was complicated, at least for me it was.. here i am thinking about love.
i find it almost derisory that an organisation teaching truth does so through the gradual instillment of untold fears, threats of punishment if one does not comply and here were not just talking about punishment in that sense of the word but spiritual punishment, persecution, which, connotations used to be, a living day/nightmare.. so enough of doom and gloom, fear, punishment, threats etc.
maybe its not just me who has come to the conclusion that love really couldn't work with something like that and at least now, i feel far happier for focussing my directions elsewhere from the wt wonky timepeice movement.. i actually feel better than i once was, i can feel the sensation and experience the difference in my outlook on life, its perspectives and an even narrower way forwards.

Hello Celtic,
I know exactly what you mean. I spent a childhood living with the most God-awful fear imaginable......all the while pretending that I was fine. I remember sitting at the meetings scared to death but no one could tell it by looking at me. The thing that made it worse was that I could tell, even as a child, that the adults were afraid too. So, as a frightened child who do you go to? I was so scared of God that I would get sick........that actually lasted for a few years after I left....I couldn't go to Him. I believe it is spiritual rape.
The sense of joy that I live with now is awesome.....
