methof15,
Welcome to the board! I can relate to your situation for myself. I've been disassociated since July and have been in very difficult situation with my mom who is a devout jw. She calls me and sometimes stops by my house. My youngest brother is staying with me so that makes easier. She is the only jw in our family. She doesn't have meals with me anymore. And she seems to be depressed whenever I see her. I have been shunned by my friends and students - I teach piano.
When one of jw kids quit without notice ( they were supposed to give me 30-day notice), I sent a letter to her parents that they need to pay me for the month. Her mom called me "inhumane". Can you believe it? I stood up for what was right- for the children and trufulness. Then, here I was called "inhumane".
I can understand how hard it has been for you and your family members. Try to support eachother. Never be an avenger but play a victim instead. Let the world see that it is you who are suffering and vitimized, not the jws. And try to move on with your life. You are 17? You should be going college pretty soon. Go to a good one or transfer to a good one after a few years of settling down and preparation. Get a good career and keep close to your other family members and friends.
And do not shun your mom and brother. Also stay away from drugs, immoral sex, smoking and alchohol abuse. Then someday you'll meet someone who would give you all the support in the world and love. Then you can start your family and new family tradition. And that'll be a good start away from the WTS/JW. It is not going to be easy. But remember that you are not alone and there are people out there who care about you.

I don't care for Glen Gould. Sorry, guys! I think he was too full of himself.
I have several favorites depending on the style of the music. For Bach I've been keenly listening to Andra Schiff. For Chopin I used to love Kristian Zimmerman, but have discovered that there are many other pianists who have more colorful tones. For Beethoven, Richard Goode matches my style. A coulple of years ago, I discovered Sviatoslav Richter. I hope I spelled his name right. I have a video of his bio. His rendition of Rachmaninoff is just amazing.
I've been watching the Van Cliburn Competition since 1985, and I own video tapes of the competition from 1989 except for 2001. The 2001 Competition is in DVD. I have to say that in 2001 Competition there were pretty good young pianists. I'm sure some of them will become legends like Richter, Serkin and George Bolet.
It is so good to talk about music. Thanks, guys, for your interest and for letting me share my thoughts.

Farkel,
That was so delightful!!!
FYI, I had Pachelbel's Canon in D played for my entrance at my wedding. It was just perfect!
By the way, which of E Major Etude are you going to play for us, Farkel? Op.10 or Op.25?

Some Light Chopin
by Farkel inlegend has it that this waltz was inspired when chopin saw a cat chasing its tail.
waltz in d-flat major opus 64 no.
1 (minute waltz).

Farkel,
Thank you so much for sharing your love for music.
This "Minute Waltz" was inspired by George Sand's dog. As you mentioned she loved Chopin, and Chopin loved her, too. But when they met and lived together, Chopin was still coping with his previous broken heart. With failing health and complicated relationship with Sand's two children, when he realized how much he was in love with Sand, it was too late. He asked for Sand at his death bed. That really broke my heart.
I love Chopin. He is my favorite piano composer. I love his preludes, esp. the one in F# Major. I think those are neglected jewels among many musicians. I also adore his ballades and sonatas, esp. Sonata in Bb minor.
Farkel, you've inspired me to practice. Where do you live? In July there is a big Music Teachers' convention in California. This year we'll have it in Santa Clara. If you can, please stop by. You'll enjoy the concerts of those talented students and artists.

Am I the only one who really didn't enjoy x-mas?
by willdabeerman ini may sound like a bit of a scrooge here but i really didn't get into x-mas.i honestlly didn't enjoy it.or better yet not enjoy it but i don't get why everyone is so excited over it.don't get me wrong it was cool as hell to see my lil step daughter get all excited over her tons of presents.but i just dont get it.
you spend many hours and stressful days spending alot of money and you spend all this time setting everything up all for about an hours worth of actual celebrating it.the time ratio makes no sense to me.
it is cool however to spend a lil extra time with the family.

I enjoyed so much this year. This year was my first proper(?) Christmas. We had a tree decorated and lots of gifts. I cooked ham with cloves and peach glaze and made apple cinnamon creme brulee. How fun it was using a blow torch!
I was so happy to spend time with my brothers and my husband. We laughed, had a great meal and watched a movie. I mostly missed holidays when I was a jw. Now I'm so happy to get them back.

Home Schooling

I guess it depends on the child. It may work for some, and it may not for others.
Yesterday one of my students told me that two of jw kids that she know of are not attending the school. She said one of them ( boy) got involved with a Catholic girl. He is a freshman in highschool and his father is the PO at the local Kingdomhall. So his parents pulled him out of school and put him in Home Schooling. The other one, a girl, is simply disapeared, she said. But later she heard that girl, too, having home schooling.

You have to make the decision. For me even though I knew that my relationship with my mom and "the friends" would be in danger, I couldn't live a lie any longer. I didn't want to be guilty by association. But some people still go with the flow. Their heart may not be in the organization, but they act or stay for the sake of family.
I wasn't all alone, though. I had my husband and a very supportive friend. I was very lucky for that. For me finding and talking to people who would listen and understand was a tremendeous help. This forum is great. I hope to see you around.
