I remember at the time how elders etc would discuss the malawi situation and made a big thing of it but never was mexico mentioned.....shame shame shame on the wtbs for their two faced duplicity...wish more elders etc then and now knew the facts as Ray Franz did....

which reminded me that in the early 80's a very well known elder in the country i was then living in went to new york as he had discovered all the discrepencies between what had happened in malawi and in mexico and wanted to know what the gb had to say about it.

How bad is the nepotism really with the appointments of elders?
by toto555 ini've seen brothers related or who are friends of elders who get appointed after only 6-12 months as an m.s.
while they were other brothers slaving away for years.
elders also who promote their sons and basically say to other young brothers "to heck with everyone else".

in the 30 years I was in after baptism I was never appointed...but I have seen whole family members (male of course) appointed in quick succession...usually alwasy done to 'entrap' youngsters who were on the verge of eyeing higher/further education....and most definitely nepotism...

1. a short talk encouraging the jw sales force to publicize the jw.org website at every opportunity.. 2. do not put out bibles on your table displays keep them hidden underneath.

I regret my disassociation.
by Zoos inif i knew then what i know now, i might never have disassociated myself.
i realize all i can do is speculate on what could have been.
however, when i consider the number of people i might have been able to help by dropping little thought-provoking seeds, i really regret having jumped to the decision to disassociate so quickly.. ive read the accounts of several people on this forum telling of how stressful it is to be in the position that i just described above.

disassociation plays straight into their hands....you in effect remove a very useful platform to raise doubts/freethinking.....so wish I had stayed in longer and actively engaged in spiritual readjustment/enlightenment

Let's Talk About Sex
by cofty ina old thread was bumped recently in which posters from 9 years ago raised objections to evolution basesd on personal incredulity regarding sexual reproduction.. i remember an elder in one of my old congregations saying something to the effect that "how could evolution be true, if men evolved before women...blah blah" you get the picture.. i have refreshed my memory of a chapter in nick lane's excellent book "life arising - the ten greatest inventions of evolution" and put together a summary.
it would be great if others would add to it - cantleave, adam, tiktaalik, s&r, bohm et al?.
here is my starter focusing on the problem with non-sexual selection.... if the driving force in evolution is the struggle of selfish genes to pass on copies of themselves to future generations, then sex seems counter-productive.

by ballistic ina month to go until 2014. .
it's quite a big year (2014) for ex-jws.
you can tell because if you search for 2014 on the forum, the significance of it being 100 years since 1914 has not been lost on ex-jws some of whom pointed out the proximity of it, around 10 years ago.

by besty inwhat might the wts do to counteract growth stagnation and attrition?.
of course they could ditch certain teachings and practices such as blood, shunning and homophobia.. how about if they closed the kingdom hall network (all proceeds back to mothership) and built out more regional mega-churches?

what is interesting..and revealing..about the ending of the CBS is that just a year or so before, they had an full page article in the kingdom ministry where it was emphasized how very important and essential the CBS was........funny how they had a complete reversal later.....

So, here's a new definition of 'apostacy'
by ItsMyLife inif you allow your child to have a part in the nativity play, it's apostacy.
even if the child just stands there, dressed as a an animal.
with no lines.. even if you've been inactive for several months.. talk about extremes and emotional blackmail!.

it can be hard to get out of that religion....but it's also hard to get that religion out of you.............I liken it to the process of going through a divorce.....protracted disentangling.......
