  when i think back to being in the wtbts i can vividly remember the elders and their weilding of power.. as an adult, and in hindsight, i can now look back in total distaste and disgust at the power and control these men exercised over our lives with 'apparent' enjoyment.. i would like any former or current elders to explain the actual feelings you had when exercising this control.. was it exhilirating?

  or was it painful?.

  i would also like responses from non elders as to how you actually felt on the other end of this control situation.. la donna ana

  Excellent topic!
  I remember being troubled by the fact that here were a group of men,untrained in any aspect of mental health,making life shattering decisions for the r/f.

  In retrospect this is what I observed.

  I wasn't fearful for myself as much as for the others.
  I did my best to avoid having contact with any of them,even tho it happened a few times.

  What I saw was power and control issues that were fed by wts ideology. Ofentimes men who had no sense of power in their secular lives makin up for it in the cong. And especially with women.
  They used shame and guilt techniques to keep the women feeling unworthy and unequal. I observed the reinforcing of patriarchal values, keeping women dependent and powerless.What brilliant and talented sisters there were. All their abilites wasted to keep the totalitarian social norm of the cong.

  I saw men with absolutely no idea of childrens cognitive and emotional developmental stages,emotionally brutalizing them.
  And I saw them enjoying this power waaaaay too much.

  What I saw was a group of men who were hazardous to your health. Physically,emotionally psychologically and spiritually. Thats' why I didnt last too long after baptism.

  I'd go out into the world. Be appreciated for competency and abilities. Then go to a meeting and disassociate that real person into the subjugated persona I was told I had to be.......a real sick dichotomy. Frustrating as all hell too lol.
  Just a few thoughts hope I didnt ramble.

  when jws ask one of the anointed just how they "know" that they are anointed, they are really asking what it is that god does via the holy spirit that tells them they are chosen.

  McVeigh vs Death Penalty

  i am a policitcal conservative, at least a fiscal conservative and sociel moderate.

  i support the death penalty, but i agree that our judicial system needs to overhaul how wwe treat criminals to achieve better rehabilitation results.

  and of course, withhold the death penalty in cases where there could be doubt.. in mcveigh's case, i believe that he deserves the death penalty.

  I will disagree with your opinion. (edited,because it was an inappropriate conclusion on my part)

  You are correct. There is no rehabiltiation in our prison system.
  And yes life behind bars is terrible, Prisoners suffer everyday.
  Well the survivors and families of their crimes suffer everyday too.
  Poor prisonors. So you think it's better to kill them because their life is so terrible? Utterly ridiculous. WHo puts the survivors out of their 'misery'. The prisoners life of misery is the consequence for the crime they committed,and that's more justice than killing them.

  If our justice system worked like is should life would mean LIFE. And I think many could let go of this 'killing to show that killing is wrong' practice. And rehabilitation isn't going to work on the majority of prisoners anyway. There are studies out there that show a very heavy percentage of the prison population are Anti-social personalities. There is nothing that works with this type.
  You cannot give anyone a conscience and thats what they lack.
  This came out rather strongly,but as a survivor ,but I feel that I also know what Im talking about. Regards,Tina

  All I now is that they are based in New York.They deal in real estate.3rd party mortgages. Their revenue is in the millions. Don't know about a link to the wts-but you never know.....hugs,Tina

  sociology is fascinating.. here at this board we have a subculture of a subculture, similar to bears (gay hairy men) who are also a subculture of a subculture.. i participate in boards for both groups and they are remarkably similar.

  there are the people who post long drawn out posts pontificating about this or that.

  there are snipers who do nothing but try to derail threads.

  What's wrong with sympathy??

  i just wanna repeat what i said before about the fact that i feel sorry for women putting up with what they go through.. i know from my girlfriend that the period means 3 even 4 days of not feeling good, sometimes really painful.. i think it's fine for me to feel bad about that.. i don't feel sorry for women on a whole or think that they can't cope, i just think that what they go through is unfair, especially if it was god's intention!!.

  sorry if anyone was offended (tina included).. i'm glad i'm a guy coz i don't think i'd be so happy to put up with it.. i love women,.

  Hi JW!!

  I'm not at all offended . Of course I feel for anybody who may be under the weather.
  wasasis and I were making a point about 'menstrual politics' as it were. That because of our biology common negative assumptions are made about our abilties and efficacy.
  And as LDH brought up,these assumptions were/are promulgated by the bible.(ty Lisa).
  F. missed the whole point of sis' post.I work in the medical field .I'm aware how many women children men suffer at times. It wasn't about that at all.

  the viewpoint and outlook contained in her post was to my mind very well done, thoughtful, considerate, and made a number of points that would be helpful to keep in mind in dealing with the male/female dynamic.. so i hope (and believe) that wasa won't mind if i use her post to springboard to one of my own - the mirror image of hers.. wasa makes a very good point in saying that women are jerked around by the hormones in their blood every month.

  and lots of us know at least one woman whose pms reaches truly epic proportions.
