Yes, I'm aware of your view. But there are other views that make more sense. To each their own. I simply stated mine in this thread originally but of course because of your black and white thinking, only your view can be 'correct' and you must make sure to put down other views.

How can Babylon the Great be the WORLD of false religion?
by BoogerMan in(revelation 17:5) “babylon the great, the mother of the prostitutes (plural!
) and of the disgusting things of the earth.”.
btg is spotlighted as being the principal "disgusting thing" which affects christians & christianity, with other lesser "prostitutes" in the background... (revelation 18:4) “get out of her, my people, (christians) if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive part of her plagues.".

Jeffro sorry. Most of mainstream Christian scholars would disagree with you. You still are thinking too much in black and white terms. It's common and understandable when leaving a black and white thinking group like the JWs. It's the rubber band effect.

Jethro, whether the tower of babel story is factual in actual history really isn't the point. The Bible is a book of Theology first and foremost. Not a book of history or science. The stories have a point to them. The writers are trying to teach something to the people in those times. We need to read them that way first.

Jeffro, yes
Babylon exalted itself in place of God. There's a theme going on.

Amazing how a man who made it all the way to the governing body doesn't seem to have seen much.
I had an elder who knew I went to meetings at another church call me and ask me if I had joined that church and if I wanted to disassociate. He said I could even leave a message on his answering machine stating I disassociate if I wanted. This was an elder who spent many years in bethel also.

Babylon (Babel) was the original kingdom that setup it's opposition to God. It said they were the masters of themselves apart from God. Thats been the point and the theme throughout the bible. Do we trust (have faith in ourselves and our institutions) or do we trust (have faith in God)?
Keep in mind the context of Revelation. It’s a message to seven ancient churches who were facing persecution. It’s an indictment of earthly kingdoms that makes the point that every human kingdom eventually becomes Babylon and must be resisted. The book is filled with visions and images that point to Jesus’ return as the ultimate King, where he will restore his people and usher in the new creation. This promise motivates every generation of believers to remain faithful in the midst of persecution and hardship.

The Reasoning Book
by Magnum inthe book reasoning from the scriptures was released in the 1980's, and it was used at virtually every meeting for service, every service meeting, and every theocratic ministry school meeting thereafter.
many jws had copies bound together with their bibles.
it was huge in jw land back then.. at that time, with the reasoning book, jws were trained to keep conversations going in spite of objections, to almost stick their feet in people's doors to keep conversations going, to defend "the truth," to argue doctrine, etc.. compare the situation today with that of the 80's.

I studied that book hard for the ministry. I remember giving talks out of it also. What a waste of time.

Fading is better then completely leaving...comments?
by Witness 007 ini got the internet in my house and realised it's all lies....but as a pioneer/ministerial servant i chose to fade.
see i had family and friends who were fully strict witnesses.
so i played the poor lost soul brother who is not sure what's happening.

Hate to break it to you but no matter what you do, you are never really free of it. That is if you fade, disassociate, get disfellowshipped you will always have effects. The question comes down to what effects can you deal with better than the others. That's a very personal calculation.

Regarding the recommended apologies a couple pages back.........Those would be fantastic apologies but of course they won't happen. When I was exiting years ago I brought up a similar idea to an elder who had been at bethel for years. He said, 'the society wouldn't be able to make an apology like that because they would lose respect '. To which I said I felt the opposite was true.
