i haven't seen a topic thread like this one, so i thought i might start one.

as the title suggests, this is a topic thread for anyone's questions that have quick or one line answers.

for example: how many meetings do the witnesses have per week?

Hello there,

I haven't seen a topic thread like this one, so I thought I might start one. As the Title suggests, this is a topic thread for anyone's questions that have quick or one line answers. For example: How many meetings do the witnesses have per week? Where can I download a copy of the latest Watchtower magazine? Who was C T Russell?

I would suggest when answering a question, just include the question at the top of your answer. (If this thread becomes very long this could be useful)

So lets see how this goes :)

this is what he said to me, i quote: we have reported to the fbi on two occasions and were rebuffed due to them not wishing to get involved with a religion.

Also Nitty-Gritty don't you want the authorities to turn on your precious religion so the desert god gets pissed enough to push the big Armageddon button????

Perhaps he has weighed the organization and found them too lite?

Anyway why are we talking about the FBI, when if the UK and AUS models are followed it will end up with congressional hearings. Now that would be fun.

"In other words the government does not care about child abuse right? Wrong."

They do definitely care. There is just not probable cause yet. Which is coming.

"IF JWs were involved in criminal activity as you all insinuate then staying out of religions way would go out of the window."

That is correct. Organizations like for example the Branch Davidians, Jim Jones or Warren Jeff's cult were shown to have an agenda of violating or subverting the law at the leadership level, and were investigated. Same goes for the Watchtower. If their policies are cultivating a culture of protecting pedophiles (willfully or through stupidity) they will be investigated eventually.

Not really. The US government is just slow in pursuing established religious organizations due to "the wall of separation between church and state". However the Royal commission and the Charity commissions work will contribute to the eventual public outcry. The Watchtower have had a chance to walk the biblical two miles instead of one, and chose to ignore secular warning signs.

"And it is because of conjecture the government won't do anything."

The US government is slow and careful when it comes to established religions. The the Royal commission and the Charity commission is going to wake them up a bit. You don't want the FBI to wake up a bit.

the first time we have any two-page manuscript fragment of the new testament is from around the year 200 ce.

Nice post.

The best example I found of willful tampering is in the Old Testament regarding the height of Goliath.

The Qumran fragments (250 BCE) and Josephus (200 ACE) both contradict the earliest OT manuscripts. Turns out Goliath was about 6 foot 5. Tall but not a Giant.

The answer to your question is found in the oft-quoted metaphor of Thomas Jefferson’s, the “wall of separation between church and state.” Where there is direct evidence of wrongdoing the FBI will investigate (e.g. Waco and Warren Jeffs), but with conjecture there is the difficulty of probable cause and the US supreme court (and by implication the arm of the law) has established a pattern of staying out of religions way (that's why religions are not taxed and do not have to disclose their financial statements), adopting a neutral tone except where it directly conflicts with the objectives of the state.

however...

The current Royal commissions inquiry is clearly establishing a pattern within the Watchtower organization.

The British Charity commission will take the example from the Royal commission and will probably do the same type of investigation.

The media attention generated from these events in the Southern hemisphere and the other side of the Atlantic will make the situation difficult to ignore in the US.

And so you will now have probable cause...

how much do you want to bet that the organization has already started preparing articles for the watchtower magazines, convention talks, circuit overseers talks and letters to bodies of elders, to refute what is happening in australia?

right now the most important thing for the wt to do is protect their image that they are gods visible organization.especially in the u.s. and latin american countries.

ah hahahahahahahahaha. oh ohohohoh. Ha hahahahahaha.

When I was a JW my opinion was that secular laws always superseded ANY church body's opinion. My only exceptions were blood and military service because in my mind they were well defined issues and I felt I could make a reasonable defense if I ever was challenged in a court of law. I had debates with brothers and sisters about criminal offences and what the elders authority in these matters were. My opinion was that they had no authority.

So thank you Jehoober for never making me an elder. It would have meant my IQ would have dropped by 40+ points making me a vegetable like the Elder from this video.

...Elder would not report murder. ah hahahahahhaha. oh hahahahahaha my sides.
