only 72, it is a shame when relatives haggle over your money..but this woman could sing in a way that made your hair stand on end..i only wish that i could have seen her in live concert.. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-12189910.
about twenty years ago, Memphis in May, the traditional blues stage, one of 4 stages, up against the Mississippi River at Tom Lee Park, a warm wind blowing off the river. . . . . . Etta sang "Damn Those Eyes". . . . . .. about 50 of us standing in the audience. She picked me out to sing the hook "Damn Your Eyes" She knocked me back a bit every time, plus I could actually feel wind from the two enormous on stage speakers. . . .

i've been thinking about this for a while now.
it seems to me that the wtbts is taking steps towards phasing out public editions of the watchtower.. here are a couple of points of evidence to see there is a real possibilty for a move in this direction:.
1. the monthly "start bible studies on the initial call service day" is evidence of a more direct drive to recruit new members.
"Let's see- One million JWs in north America will want one of those WT Epads= a good market for a handheld tablet- if they sell 500,000 of them the first year with a profit of $200 each that gives the WT a $100 million profit!! Plus, 1 million digital books sold at the summer conventions for $5.00 each- that is a lot more profit than they would get from printing books and they can furlough even more Bethel workers back to their home KH's. They can just print cheap paperback books for the Bible studies-
The WT WiFi 3G Internet for $50/mo can be a real cash cow for them, too."
Moshe. . . .ur dangerous. You're bringing the GB into the 21st century kicking and screaming! WT headphones, WT Epad cover and keyboard. These are all special order items. The cover and keyboard alone sell for $150 in "the world". The WT headphones are suitable for listening to Kingdom Melodies by the Society's orchestra. Windle, the Watchtower version of Kindle available to publishers only for a suggested contribution to the worldwide work of $150.

david nelson passed away today.. many years ago (50's and 60's) i'd heard that the family had some ties to jw's in some fashion.
any truth to that one?.

Yes, Johnnytwofeet. As you state, it was a typical farkelesque beatdown. Why Johnny do I not feel thoroughly crushed, humiliated? Because, Johnny, you and your mentor illustrate the point of my last thread, the role of positive reinforcement in continued participation in this forum.
The small-minded man you admire searched my infrequent posts of the last ten years and revelled in the comparatively small number of responses. If you check to see how long since his last post you get an idea of the work he put into his last response. Johnny, set your watch for 10 or 20 years from now and reread his response and see if you're still impressed.
Johnny, have you ever heard older folks talk about a "pissing match"? Scroll up and reread the post just above yours and notice the emphasis on numbers, recognition, page views, etc. That's how some people "measure" themselves. It's sad, really. When the environment is not as nurturing as they want, they run.
Johnny, just a line or two from a man who used to be known as Cat Stevens:
"but if you want to leave take good care,
hope you make a lot of nice friends out there,
but just remember there's a lot of bad and beware,
beware"

last week, i told you i was going to tell my daughter that i was leaving the truth this weekend and you all gave me sound advice.
but, i cannot keep a secret this heavy from the person i love most on this earth, my only daughter, who is beautiful inside and out.. well, i have always had an open and honest relationship with my daughter, and i guess it paid off.
this weekend i visited my daughter (who lives in another state) and i told her i was leaving "the truth.
An unbelievably good reaction. No one allows that much info to be presented if their mind is closed. Not only did she clearly state her unconditional love, she shielded you from exposure to her husband's displeasure before you're totally ready. BTW, his response to your question is a good sign as well. . . Could you ask for better?

the biggest error wt has continued to make for the last 120yrs is they leave a wonderful paper trail behind - where a serious student of study will have no problem following and seeing that so many of their lofty claims simply don't fly .
case in point - are the elders trained or untrained clergymen as it were?.
well for those of you who have never served as an elder allow me to share with you what elders are told about their training.

suffice to say most of us appreciate favorable comments when we initiate a thread.
even in our jw days, after an assembly part, student talk, public talk etc.
the kind words of our brothers and sisters contributed to our self-esteem.

[Please forgive my numerous intrusions, TMS]
No forgiveness needed. It's obvious that some old friends appreciated seeing you post again.

good points bizzybee, clarity. . . . .
"Goodbye" threads and vows not to post anymore are almost epidemic on message boards. They're akin to repeated threats of suicide, designed to gain attention, condolences, reassurances. This behavior is manipulative, transparent and self-centered but many buy into it time and again and rush to the aid of the "victim", pledging their undying support, love and most of all, attention. The drama creates a situation beyond normal give and take, mutual appreciation and camaraderie.

The reference to JWD, however, has me puzzled ... I've read most of the posts and several mention JWD. Unless I've overlooked something.
CC
Of course, CC, it's JWN. I must have had a senior moment OR that may have been the abbreviation for Jehovah's Witnesses Discussion Board.
Curtains: Of course, humans NEED positive reinforcement. My question was framed to as to draw attention to HOW MUCH support a poster requires to continue posting. Does one cease and desist if everyone is not enraptured with your ideas or how they are presented? Do you see which way the proverbial wind is blowing before commenting or initiating a thread? If some of your material is not well received do you pick up your marbles and go?
