The New Diary of Winston Smith
by WinstonSmith inwe had to go off grid for a time, time and half a time as we thought we had been outed.
fortunately it was a false alarm, but it was a stressful time.
i asked for my original diary thread to be deleted in case there could be anything on there to identlfy mrs smith and i. i am always very careful when posting, and am sure there was nothing on there, but felt it best to have it removed in order to be as cautious as a dove.

Will the year 2034 be the end? Is the WT seeing a glimpse of "NEW LIGHT"?
by suavojr incedar mentioned this on another thread talking about 2014 and the wt.
ray also mentioned how easily it would be for the wt to apply the 1 day for a year rule and make 2034 a special year.. .
they already have a contingency plan enshrined in their literature that will see them through to 2034.. http://www.quotes-watchtower.co.uk/2034.html.

Thanks for all your input.

As long as JWs continue to believe that being AWAKE is about dates and chronology, they are ASLEEP to its spiritual intended meaning.
A man is on his way home from work or a journey, if his wife is constantly looking out the window for his arrival, nothing is done. If however, she is busy in her home, she will be ready, regardless of what time her husband returns.
This reminds me of the ten virgins Jesus spoke about. The parable does not criticise the virgins for sleeping, since both groups do that, but for being unprepared. Clearly saying the end is near, setting dates, pushing for numbers instead of godly devotion and pure love for Jesus and the father does not constitute beign prepared.

I don't expect 2014 to be a big deal to the majority of Witnesses.
As to 2034, I personally believe the Society will be almost unrecognisable by then.
We all know we are in the age of information and the internet has given people a voice.
My question is:
Does anyone here think the new GB/FDS will make the same mistake? The mistake of talking about a possibility, a proper time for God to act, etc...

1975 - A weak argument?
by Christ Alone ini posted this on an older thread, but i wanted to get an honest opinion about this from all of you.
i think taking the 1975 approach with a jw is...weak.
was it wrong (and false prophetic) of them?

Hello CA,
Don’t forget that Fred Franz and Nathan Knorr were young men learning from the best, THE JUDGE HIMSELF! They witnessed how the judge was able to manipulate, take over, erase Russell, label people as apostates and make an ‘ASS OF HIMSELF’.
If you take these experiences into account, they both (Fred Franz and Knorr) learned how to control, manipulate people and avoid some of Rutherford’s mistakes. That is why they motivated people with this non-scriptural message of 1975, 6000 years, without using compromising words. Fred Franz was a master of deceit, orchestrated an exit for the ORG and himself. He was able to escape humiliation and blame the millions of brothers for reading into his words.
My dad was studying in 1971 and he recalls clearly how they emphasized 1975 as the end. What is interesting about this, is that among the Spanish brothers they were not getting the same WT study as printed in English, but they still were led to believe the end was coming.
Now just remember that each JW’s tipping point is different, some could be false prophecy, others child abusive, others the topic of Christ not being our mediator, etc.
You just have to find what can CLICK with who you are talking.

ABUS BEHEAD 2 CAPTIVES, DUMP HEADS IN SULU PUBLIC MARKET
Zamboanga City, August 23, 2002 (STAR)By Roel Pareño - Suspected Abu Sayyaf terrorists have decapitated two of the six hostages they seized on Tuesday and dumped the heads in the public market of Jolo, Sulu, officials said yesterday.
Brig. Gen. Romeo Tolentino, commander of the 104th Army Brigade, said the heads were wrapped separately in plastic bags and were found in different spots at the Jolo public market on Serrantes street.
President Arroyo condemned the beheading and dispatched Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes and Armed Forces chief Gen. Roy Cimatu to Sulu to oversee the rescue operations mounted by the military and police.
"The President is very concerned about the safety of the hostages and, just like any decent Filipino, condemns the atrocities committed by this group," said Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye.
Tolentino identified the victims as Lemuel Montulo, 21, and Leonel Mantic, both members of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witness. Their severed heads were found separately on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Tolentino said the heads of the two hostages were found in bags with notes denouncing them as "infidels." The bags were left at food stands about 100 meters apart in the market, with the attached notes calling for jihad or Islamic holy war, including a passage from the Quran written in Arabic and the local Tausug dialect.
"They did this because they want to punish the nonbelievers of Allah," he said.
The Jehovah’s Witness congregation in Jolo reported that the torso of one of the beheaded victims was found yesterday afternoon near the place where they were abducted on Tuesday morning.
Correcting earlier police reports, Tolentino said there were actually four women in the group of eight people seized by armed men in Barangay Kaunayan in Patikul, Sulu.
Two of the victims, Muslim spouses Solaiman and Nadamalyn Sulaiman, who served as guides of the group, were released a few hours after the abduction.
Tolentino identified the remaining hostages as Mantic’s wife Emily, 23, Flora Montolo, 40, Montolo’s sister-in-law Cleofe, 46, and Norie Bendejo, 41, a native of Jolo.
The victims were also earlier identified as dealers of the American direct-selling firm Avon Products Inc.
But while authorities have established that the victims, mostly Zamboanga residents, were in Sulu simply to distribute cosmetics and other beauty products to their sales contacts, Avon’s local office denied that they were Avon dealers.

How the Governing Body Solved Another Problem
by Cameron_Don inthat interpretation had caused a problem that the governing body was never able to satisfactorily explain.
they needed to be able to show that there has always been a functioning faithful and discreet slave in one form or another ever since.
but they were never able to provide any evidence for the existence of an ongoing 1900 year-old slave prior to the appearance of the watchtower society.

Now it will be easier for them to distance themselves from the problematic 1914 date coming to its 100th birthday plus an on-going problem of more JW's claiming to be part of the 144,000.

Jehovah's Witnesses View of Jesus Compared to the Early Church
by cofty inthe following is an extract from something i wrote 16 years ago soon after leaving the watchtower.
i am posting it because it may help honest jws consider how far their beliefs are at odds with new testament christians.
if they have "the truth" then their attitude to jesus ought to reflect that of the apostles.

Hello everyone! I like this thread. First let me say that I am an active 'born in' JW and I was a lurker for about 6 months. Let me start by saying that I AM NOT AN IDIOT LIKE ETHOS and it is a shame that JW's that can give a good debate are trained to not talk with people that are labeled as 'apostates'.
I know I'm breaking the WT rules for talking and posting here (But it is OK for the GB to have people spy on you guys, Oh the double standards)
Back to my main point, it is a waste of time to insult and argue with stubborn people. So when you come across a stubborn JW or from any other religious denomination, the reality is that no one here will be able to change his/her view... In my case, just for being here does not mean that certain beliefs will change when I can find scriptural support for what I believe.
My approach to any argument I'm confronted with is in accord with:Proverbs 14:15
New International Version (NIV)
15 The simple believe anything,
but the prudent give thought to their steps. So don't be like Ethos and simply present valid points if you have any. (Recipe for success)

Does God's foreknowledge take away from free will?
by Christ Alone injust by knowing what will happen, that doesn't mean that we can prevent or cause something to happen.
my knowing that does not prevent them the free will of making the choice.. it's the same with god.
if god is not restricted to existence in the present, then the future is known by god because god indwells the future as well as the present and the past.

I am a person of faith but it is hard for me to understand how can God know our future if the future has not happened? How can I be guilty of a sin, crime, bad thing etc. and God just sits there and does nothing to prevent my eternal damnation.
I don’t know, but the more of think of this, either God can foresee the future or he can’t.
