It is sad that your family cannot allow themselves to do what is right, over the status imposed by an ecclesiastical group of men. But great to live life your way! Thanks for sharing.

It is just a management meeting where they teach the frontline managers (elders) how to enforce WT rules and regulations. In essence they get directions as to handling difficult cases within the congregation and if any hot issue is brought up like "child molestation " the answer is call the legal department. They never mention a single word about loving others like Jesus did and always look for ways to maintain the organization's reputation clean, with the excuse that they are cleaning God's house. -

I am fully aware that getting a college degree does not equal instant success. Why don't we balance the conversation?
The GB is not completely wrong about not recommending higher education, the problem is they look down on its members that attend college. They consider such a person as a lover of this world and mark the person as materialistic. But to be fair, higher education is a big decision and cannot be taken lightly.
Review some of the excerpts from the following secular book.
Is College Worth It?: A Former United States Secretary of Education and a Liberal Arts Graduate Expose the Broken Promise of Higher Education
* Many kids go to college just because it’s “the next thing” expected of them. Majorities of high school seniors do go to college, even though many of them really don’t want to go (at least, they don’t want to go and study). Our own President has even said that every American should get some higher education. Every American? Really? Because there are lots of house builders, electricians, and landscapers out there who have no business in college. I couldn’t do their jobs if I tried. But I really don’t care if they went to college. Bennett goes into how our society looks down on those without college degrees, and this is probably true. It’s a shame though, because by pushing everyone into college, the colleges are forced to lower their standards.* Colleges are lowering their standards. Colleges must make money. With the advent of the internet, students can rate their professors. Students are more likely to highly rate “easy” profs who give little homework. Tougher profs usually earn lower ratings from students. Fewer kids sign up for their classes, and soon they have to decide — do they decrease the rigor of their courses, or run the risk of losing their jobs altogether?
* Many colleges today spend vast sums on things that have nothing to do with education. They feature million dollar gyms and more — all to try to attract the more well-heeled students and their parents.
* Colleges also often feel that a higher price makes them appear more “prestigious.” Yet Bennett has charts of various schools — their 4 year cost, and the 30- year “return on investment” of attending them. Many have a negative return: the student would have been better off investing college money and going straight to work out of high school than paying to attend those colleges, because it will take so long to pay back the cost. What madness!
* The stereotype is accurate: college professors are liberal by wide margins, and that means that many of their students come out of school with liberal ideologies as well. Additionally, while many lower-level college profs and assistants are low-paid, colleges also have their share of “prima donnas” who teach only a class or two, offer little to no office hours, and spend most of their days shuttered away in their offices enjoying luxurious perks.

TO ALL CONGREGATIONS IN THE UNITED STATES BRANCH TERRITORY
Re: Art Skills Needed at Bethel
Dear Brothers:
The beautiful illustrations in our printed publications and on jw.org serve as teaching aids
that emphasize spiritual truths from the Bible. Producing that artwork requires the efforts of
many skilled artists, graphic designers, and others. Some of these volunteers are ones serving
full-time in the Art Department at Bethel; others are serving temporarily at Bethel; and others
serve remotely from their homes.
At this time, we have a specific need for volunteers with one or more of the skills listed
on page 2 of this letter. Spiritually-qualified publishers with these skills who are in a position to
work at Bethel temporarily or to make themselves available as a remote volunteer may approach
the congregation secretary and request an Application for Temporary Volunteer Program (A-19).
All who apply should include a detailed résumé with samples of their work and should include a
link to an online portfolio they may have.
Please note that we are not encouraging individuals to pursue higher education or university
degrees to obtain skills related to art and graphic design. (w13 10/15 pp. 15-16 pars. 13-14)
Thank you for your continued support to further Kingdom interests.
c: Circuit overseers
PS to the coordinator of the body of elders:
Please arrange for this letter (with the exception of the attached list of skills) to be read to
the congregation at the first Service Meeting after its receipt. Thereafter, the letter and list of
skills should be posted on the information board. Along with the Application for Temporary Volunteer
Program (A-19), the letter to temporary volunteer applicants (A-20) and the letter to those
applying for theocratic schools, Bethel service, or other forms of special full-time service (A-63)
should be provided.
As a reminder, it is preferred that the Application for Temporary Volunteer Program (A-19)
be submitted using the jw.org Inbox feature. Please include the words “Attention Art Department”
in the subject line of the message.—See also the letter dated August 5, 2014, to all bodies of elders
in the United States branch territory.Re: Art Skills Needed at Bethel January 8, 2015 Page 2

That can be a scary thought, think of an Islam caliphate = theocratic JW institution, same bad outcome.
Df'd people will have to live isolated from society, suicide rates would go up.
Anyone voicing disagreement would mysteriously disappear.
Men will try to move up the ranks to dominate the others, corruption would creep in and soon execution of all dissidents will take place in the name of Jehovah.
People will show a smile to world but inside will scream S.O.S
Complete lack of normal human empathy.
The list can go on...

Cofty, you're always trying to makes us think. It amazes me the wealth of knowledge that mankind has about its simple beginning. Imagine what our species will know and be able to do in just 1000 more years!
The human race will be enlightened in an almost unimaginable scale, and what about Christians? They will have the longest halftime in human history, 3,000 years of crickets.

Is there a function where I can switch to look at the topics as thumbnails? I don't like the feature where my screen is just filled with the opening comment. Other than that, everything is good. -

Jehovah's Witnesses View of Jesus Compared to the Early Church
by cofty inthe following is an extract from something i wrote 16 years ago soon after leaving the watchtower.
i am posting it because it may help honest jws consider how far their beliefs are at odds with new testament christians.
if they have "the truth" then their attitude to jesus ought to reflect that of the apostles.

Hey Cofty,
I am going to use this info for tonight's family worship. My wife is beating me up for not having any bible discussions in the last 2 years, let's see how it goes.... I have to figure out how to deliver this material in a subtle way and just let it sink in...
