In fact, when droppin the bomb that I intended to leave, she sent me an SMS stating that she loves me and that if this was the right choice me, better go ahead with it. She has never been a fanatical JW.

My family and I stopped being active witnesses some 3 and a half years ago. We did the fade thing, thus we are neither DA’s nor DF. Before we stopped, I served as an elder. The past four years we’ve been celebrating christmas. We’ve had christmas decorations, including a tree the past three years. My family has accepted our fading nicely, I must say. I do not confront them with my opinions, and they do not interfere with my new way of life. Thus, some aspects of our lives, are simplye not discussed, e.g. Christmas. Today, I was sleeping on the couch, when my daughter suddenly wakes me up, stating that my sister and her sons are standing outside, making a unexpected visit. At first I sort of panicked, realizing I could not hide the decorations. The panic lasted only for a few seconds though. Then I hugged my sister in the entrance, and she smiled as she always does. I guess she was sort of mentally prepared that we celebrate christmas, and that she had prepared her sons as well, because there was no comment or reactions whatsoever. I guess I was the nervous one, wandering about and chatting unstoppingly for some minutes... Now, her two sons are falling to sleep in the christmas decorated house of her «astrayed» brother. Looking back, I think it is just ok that she has seen it, and accepting it in such a gracious way. I guess one reason is that we respect each other lives. She has chosen not be told details for me abandoning our previous common beliefs and I have respected that. I guess she’ll just keep it to herself what she saw, unless she is being directly asked by our JW parents. Just wanted to share it. A happy new year to all of you.

SERVICE REPORT 2005 : WATCHTOWER FEB 1ST 2006
by BluesBrother ini have had a quick look and found no references to this, so - here goes..as in the mag we picked up on sunday.. worldwide % increase over 2004 = 1.3%.
memorial partakers 8524 (compared to 8570 in 2004).
most european and nth american lands show pretty static figs - britain 1% increase, canada 0%, germany 0%, france 1%, usa 0%... but spare a thought for the inhabitants of zambia where 1 person in 90 is a reporting witness, must be hell going down to the local market!

Another story on changing magazine pics
by behemot inin my country a few years ago there was the (unwritten) rule that skirts long to the shoes were not ok for sisters.
unfortunately in brooklyn it seems that nobody knew about this, so once, much to the embarassment of the local branch that was upholding the rule, a wt issue came up that had on one page a pic of a sister preaching who wore just that kind of skirt; and on another page a pic of a witness party with a sister sitting on a sofa whose skirt covered her shoes.
result?

I heard the same mentioned about skirts when visiting friends in another European country - won’t disclose which one due to paranoia :-) He was referring to a country shaped like a boot.

Journal of Church and State: WT NO-BLOOD EXPOSE'
by AndersonsInfo in(baylor university, waco, tx) an essay entitled, "jehovah's witnesses, blood transfusions, and the tort of misrepresentation," found in the autumn issue of baylor universitys prestigious journal of church and state, published december 13, 2005, exposes the vulnerability of jehovahs witnesses religious organization to massive claims for compensation because of the religions misrepresentation of the medical risks of blood transfusions.
this milestone essay critically examines one of the religions main publications for teaching their children and new recruits about their blood beliefs, how can blood save your life?
the peer-reviewed essay details many misrepresentations of medical facts, which the religion partly relies on to support its blood prohibition, thus denying its members from making fully informed medical decisions.

Obviously, the journal (in spite of being among the 600s list of quoted journals) is credible enough to be used by a representative of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract society. (Funny, within the congregation she is not even worthy of handling the microphones).

American JWism I think is more "extreme" than their European counterparts, I think, because the Puritan/Fundamentalist views are much more prevalent there, than in Europe. Also, in the US, Witnesesses are mostly referred to as a church, whereas in Europe, it is most often referred to as a sect, cult, movement or high control group.

JWs and the holidays at work
by limbogirl ini had lunch this week with some business colleagues and one of them complained that at her office there is now a "no merry christmas" policy which includes not saying merry christmas, not decorating the office for christmas, no christmas party, no secret santa games or exchanging of gifts.
i asked why all the rules and she said that there is one woman (out of nearly 150 employees) who is a jw and office management has decided the best way to handle the situation without excluding this woman or offending her in any way is to eliminate all reference to the holidays.
as you can imagine the other employees are in an uproar.

Interestingly, it seems that American JWs take more pride in being different, not mainstream etc than their European counterparts. In my old cong, an elder took great pride in decorating the christmas tree at his work. He got praise because it was the best tree ever. In the US, a brother sued the company for making him make a window christmas decoration. Another elder, the PO, who also happens to be director in a company, threw a Christmas party at his work. However, I guess he called it a Year“s End party or whatever. Quite a few witnesses attend christmas parties and even eat birthday cakes as well.

This is a thought on why Hong Kong was given back to China (as reasoned by a staunch JW). Cut from Beliefnet. «I remember a CO gave a talk, that one of my sisters found very objectionable. The brother was saying that (at that time) we hadn't yet entered China to preach. He mentioned the population of China and said something about how a lot of us might feel that the end wasn't close since China hadn't been witnessed to yet. He said that we should trust Jehovah, that if Jehovah brought Armegeddon before China was preached to, then it could be that Jehovah had decided that none of his people were there. China wasn't easy for ministers to get into to preach to. But guess what? Hong Kong reverted to China's control, and we had a lot of witnesses in Hong Kong. Jehovah probably set up that arrangement with forethought back 100 years ago. There was a way for China to be infiltrated with the message. It is true our brothers and sisters there have to work under ban and be very secretive. We don't know how many exist, in China, but Jehovah didn't leave them without a witness in this world. Too there are Chinese who come to the states who are embracing the truth. How many of them will tell their families?» Also, the BIG NEWS is already given coverage there....
