Thanks for sharing your story... I am gay too. Was an elder, and a model witness... Got married, had kids as well. I DA just 14 months ago, but became inactive in 2003... in the annual totals the sum spent had great increases every year.
however is the evidence is quite clear about the recent fall of contributions - the result was the cut in watchtower and awake.

if i were a practicing jehovah's witness, i'd seriously take the governing body's words to heart immediately.
since they don't want to add any further burdens on us, i would not "wait on jehovah (them)" but instead i'd follow the spirit of their timely words and cut out one more meeting night and save gas money!

What a relief in Norway, not having to drive a few miles, at most, to the book study in your neighboorhood. The gas price yesterday, was above 10 dollars a gallon....

Film "Worlds Apart," screened in NYC - GO SEE IT
by NYCkid inhello, just want to highly recommend the danish film, "worlds apart" now being screend at the tribeca film festival in new york.
the acting is superb and the filmakers represent the witnesses accurately (to the "t") withoug making them appear fanatic.
after all, these are people sincere in their beliefs no matter how absurd.

Even within a country there are cultural differences. In my local congregation in Norway, not even moustaches were allowed, if you were enrolled at the TMS or wanted to have a privilege, e.g. do the microphone. I also found the hair abit too long for the elder. Also, I heard someone mention that some in the audience at the "assembly" in the movie, had banners, which is not allowed or encouraged by JWs For copyright reasons, I reckon, the literature displayed in the movie, are "fake". the Watchtower is entitled "On Guard" and I would think that if songs are featured, it would be "Kingdom songs" made up for the movie.... My guess though

Nothing inaccurate with an elder with a beard. In Denmark, elders are allowed to have beards. Attended a convention in denmark. Even some of the speakers had beards!!! There are cultural differences even in Jw land...

REgarding the comment: I briefly told them about Russell's Pyramid, and you should have seen his facial expression as he threw his head back like I was crazy, saying he didn't believe it. I think there is a photo of Russels grave and a comment on pyramidology in the "Proclaimer" book in a section entitled Deserted Practices and something like that.... I was aware of this even when I was an elder. Also Beth Sarim, christmas celebrations prior to the 20s etc etc.... I guess it was because I looked through the old society books in the library. The illustrations (paintings) in the Rutherford era books were hilarious... Especially one with a fat, naked, bare breasted woman being the harlot on the Beast...

I revealed to an elder and long time friend that I did not support the societys position on birthdays. He turned me in to the local branch office. He wanted to form a judicial committee because of it. However, Bethel just stated to let it go, obviously since I had stepped down already and was gradually fading....

Elders in Denmark are allowed to have beards. I remember being at a disctrict convention. Some of the speakers had beards.. In my home congregation, you could not even carry the microphone with a moustache...

The film is going to be a block buster, at least among ex-JWs, people who have JWs as relatives, friends, colleagues etc... I have spread the word already, and one colleague and one former neighbour both stated that they are determined to see the film... It is noteworthy that the actors in the films are famous in Scandinavia and it is a real quality production. I will also ask if the film will be shown on cinemas in Oslo...
