Also in general it seems that the most extreme cases, whether it be "scandals" or extreme severeness, takes place in the US... In e.g. Norway, only 2.6 per cent attend church on a weekly basis, so I guess also JWs are less "militant".

The essay was well written. However, I do agree that some points were unduly exagerrated. But perhaps the American version of JWism fits to that description. After all the outcome of less education, pension planning et is more visible in a country like the US with is not so developed when it comes to taking care of the welfare of its citizens.

I wish you the best... One should respect that for some being a JW is the right and sincere thing to do, whereas for others it would be uthinkable.
Leaving is a tough stance, going back might be impossible for some....
I met a little baby girl in Africa called Reniaa recently, then I thought of you.
May you find peace.

E.g. in Selters Germany, they have donated a fire truck (?), improved roads etc, things that contribute to improvement of the local infrastructure.

Only JW "adults" getting baptized in France?
by Gayle intens of thousands of jehovah's witnesses meet in france(afp) 43 minutes ago.
paris tens of thousands of jehovah's witnesses gathered on saturday in cities across france for an annual international gathering, the religious movement said.. about 150,000 flocked to meetings with the main gathering in villepinte, in the paris region, attracting 50,000 followers.. several hundred jehovah's witnesses were baptised by being immersed in water during the event, which lasts the whole weekend.. those baptised were adults, following the example of christ.. jehovah's witnesses consider themselves the heirs of a primitive form of christianity.. their beliefs are strongly based on the text of the bible and they consider modern christian churches to have deviated from the book's true teachings.. followers reject the ideas of modern evolutionary theory and refuse blood transfusions.. they are perhaps best known for preaching on doorsteps, where they offer religious literature and attempt to convert people.. the movement emerged towards the end of the 19th century in the united states and arrived in france in 1906.. there are more than seven million jehovah's witnesses worldwide and around 150,000 in france.. the group's status varies from country to country.
they are given the same recognition as mainstream religions in austria and germany but are classed as a "recognised cult" in denmark.. in france, some of their branches have the status of "religious association" but the movement was also mentioned in a 1995 parliamentary report on sects.. google_ad_section_end(name=article) copyright 2009 afp.

In my country, averga baptismal age is some 16-18.... Very rare that someone below that age gets baptized.

Please keep in mind that the articles are aimed at an international, global readership. When translated, I`d suppose that American names, sound "ethnic" or foreign to e.g. a Japanese or Scandinavian reader...
When a general article in the Watchtower e.g. are using names, experiences or quoted from a specific country, the article is most likely written or compiled in that country. E.g. in this issue, the first article is likely written in Poland.
The last article is a life story from Spain, and the name of the author is also given (or as told by)... That life story comes from Spain...

The Social Structure in the Congregation
by Mary inever notice how the "happiest people on earth" are also the most class-oriented?
to say that jesus said his followers should all be on equal footing, it's incredible how much the r&f witness is not on equal footing.
the social structure in the congregation is more complex than the blueprints of a nuclear warhead, but just so that you "remember your place", see if you can find where your niche was/is:

Honestly, this must reflect American JWism more than its European counterpart....

I guess forbidding must be a incorrect word.... Perhaps cautions, deems unnecessary etc would be a more balanced and correct wording.
