this milestone essay critically examines one of the religions main publications for teaching their children and new recruits about their blood beliefs, how can blood save your life?

the peer-reviewed essay details many misrepresentations of medical facts, which the religion partly relies on to support its blood prohibition, thus denying its members from making fully informed medical decisions.

Obviously, the journal (in spite of being among the 600s list of quoted journals) is credible enough to be used by a representative of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract society. (Funny, within the congregation she is not even worthy of handling the microphones).

American JWism I think is more "extreme" than their European counterparts, I think, because the Puritan/Fundamentalist views are much more prevalent there, than in Europe. Also, in the US, Witnesesses are mostly referred to as a church, whereas in Europe, it is most often referred to as a sect, cult, movement or high control group.

JWs and the holidays at work

i had lunch this week with some business colleagues and one of them complained that at her office there is now a "no merry christmas" policy which includes not saying merry christmas, not decorating the office for christmas, no christmas party, no secret santa games or exchanging of gifts.

i asked why all the rules and she said that there is one woman (out of nearly 150 employees) who is a jw and office management has decided the best way to handle the situation without excluding this woman or offending her in any way is to eliminate all reference to the holidays.

as you can imagine the other employees are in an uproar.

Interestingly, it seems that American JWs take more pride in being different, not mainstream etc than their European counterparts. In my old cong, an elder took great pride in decorating the christmas tree at his work. He got praise because it was the best tree ever. In the US, a brother sued the company for making him make a window christmas decoration. Another elder, the PO, who also happens to be director in a company, threw a Christmas party at his work. However, I guess he called it a Year“s End party or whatever. Quite a few witnesses attend christmas parties and even eat birthday cakes as well.

The brother was saying that (at that time) we hadn't yet entered China to preach. He mentioned the population of China and said something about how a lot of us might feel that the end wasn't close since China hadn't been witnessed to yet. He said that we should trust Jehovah, that if Jehovah brought Armegeddon before China was preached to, then it could be that Jehovah had decided that none of his people were there. China wasn't easy for ministers to get into to preach to. But guess what? Hong Kong reverted to China's control, and we had a lot of witnesses in Hong Kong. Jehovah probably set up that arrangement with forethought back 100 years ago. There was a way for China to be infiltrated with the message. It is true our brothers and sisters there have to work under ban and be very secretive. We don't know how many exist, in China, but Jehovah didn't leave them without a witness in this world. Too there are Chinese who come to the states who are embracing the truth. How many of them will tell their families?» Also, the BIG NEWS is already given coverage there....

While browsing some books in a book shop today, I discovered a most interesting title: Joy of Sects written by Sam Jordison. It is a brand new title, see the following link. http://books.guardian.co.uk/top10s/top10/0,6109,1643175,00.html On page 97ff there is an interesting intro on JWs. The book is written in a rather humerous, ironic way. However, the facts are correct, albeit one spurious DF offense (do not remember the exact term, but it seemed somewhat incorrect). It has two hilarious fact books. One on the present-day most famous JW: Prince - the only male witness preaching with mascara and having a white limousine driving him. Also, and most importantly, is an accurate exposé on the UN issue. It is straight to the point. I was quite delightfully surprised to see it included in the book. If someone who have access to the book, could quote it, it would surely please people here at JWDF.

i`m discussing with a jw on another forum.

he claims (of course...) that the new testament also was written first in hebrew.

i have refuted all of his claims, but he won`t listen (of course), and then i insisted that he provided me with a photocopy of this supposed "nt-original".

I think there is a theory that Matthew was originally written in Matthew, and then translated into Greek...

why do witnesses call the new testament "greek scriptures"?

anybody know how the witnesses managed to demonize the expression, "new testament/old testament"?

my jw mother said "it's because when you call the hebrew scriptures the old testament, it makes them sound out of date, but they're really not because there is so much we can learn from blah blah blah blah blah blah".

any thoughts?.

However, they do use the common terms when making press statements etc. Also, it is kind of funny with their using the expression before our common era, etc and not the regular terms AD etc. Where I come from, it seems that the witnesses are the only ones who make use of a specific date term. This was introduced just a few years ago....
