  Actually JB, That all depends on who you are. I experienced this same thing yrs ago with my ex who was an Elder's son. I couldn't take the abuse any longer. He was a an ogar, and a pervert. While staying with my mother after 2 weeks I had my elder's meeting and decided to let him off the hook to remarry scripturally by telling them I had an affair with someone. If only I had it to do all over again. Not only had he been cheating on me all along, but we decided to work it out and reconcile our problems. Needless to say I went home and we had sex that night. The next morning he decided it was over and kicked me out. His father being an Elder told him you can't do that cause you forgave her by having sex. Well, I got disfellowshipped, his father pleaded his case and they decided he didn't know any better. So basically he got a freebie before we broke up. At that time I still believed it was the "truth" so I got myself reinstated. Woah !! How out of place I felt. Glad to be rid of the mind control. Take care,

  we had role plays on over coming objections.

  we were taught how to anticipate typical questions and respond to them.

  Hello everyone, Even though I sucked at the service thing and public speaking because I was terribly shy I have noticed that one thing I have carried with me when I left was the defense mode. When I first met my boyfriend I found myself challenging his beliefs, and religious preference. We had alot in common and both loved to talk religion. It took me while to realise I was challenging him, and I was quite defensive, and would be ready with a counter attack. Funny cause I didn't believe as a jw anymore ,but the tecnique was still there. Now when we talk I try to erase the former beliefs, and battle mode so I can listen with an open mind. Take care,

  Hello everyone, It's really about a Kingdom Hall of about 230 clones. I remember the Elder in the hall I attended LONG ago who would conduct the Watchtower study. He'd ask a question then choose pick hand after hand until he got the answer he was looking for. Sometimes it took 5 or 6 answers to figure out what he wanted. Mind you this Elder had unique thinking. He made a statement during the study that Adam should have slit Eve's throat. This same man who was the Elder at my Df meeting was df'd a yr later for bopping a sister. The sister became history, but with time he got back in.. Clones I tell you! Don't think! Take care.

  i thought this was an interesting article that showed even the most "saintly" people struggle with their belief in god.

  i've always respected this woman and the work that she did.

  some interesting stats: the missionaries of charity, which she started, feeds 500,000 families a year in calcutta alone, treats 90,000 leprosy patients annually and educates 20,000 children every year.

  Hi Jourles, They will probably downplay the hypocrisy to an individual level, and not towards the org. That is what they have always done in the past. For example people who are leading double lives,or mixing with apostates on the net. When ever wrongdoing is exposed, and brought to their attention they make sure they counsel everyone not to blame the organization, but that it is a select few who are hypocrites. They will figure out a way to cover it. [8>] I'm sure their lawyers are scurrying about on how to handle it. Take care.

  Ridiculous trips to the 'back room'

  the posts in the elders meeting thread got me thinking about this, so i've spun it off for into another thread.. were you ever 'counseled' because "some" in the congregation were disturbed by things you said/did/listened to/watched?.

  here is just some of the stupid stuff that the elders brought me in on.

  though they were usually handled through shepherding calls, not in the back room at the kh.. 1: because i decided to change my first and middle names.

  Hi April, My mom got the 3rd degree from my jw sis not long ago about reading magazines like Better Home and gardens and a few other womens mags. My mom was depressed as she often gets, and my jw sis came down to visit, and told her she wasn't praying to Jehovah enough, and reading her literature. She saw her "worldly mags, and told her she shouldn't be reading them. So my mom tossed them. I am going to get her a bunch of gift subscriptions of womens Mags. I know she enjoys them, cause I saw one on her table the other day...:)Take care.

  Hi Esmeralda, Here is a funny one. My sis was 17, and engaged to be married. She was dancing with her ministerial servant fiance when one of the long timers noticed their 'closeness'. Surprised she didn't trip as she RAN to the elders to bring it to their attention. They called them both to a meeting, and said it was reported that he was cupping her buttocks whilst dancing..LOL Guess he didn't want to say Grabbing Ass. This particular sister was always on duty as deputy sherriff to the cong. I remember she came up once to me after I had gotten married, and told me that ,this particular day I had slacked off in my appearance. She was saying how I always looked nice(for my husband), and that I should be careful to not slack off (for him). OMG!!! Like I was a cave woman who followed her husband around, and grunted..LOL. Anyways she was a big cause for many elder's meetings in our hall. Take care.
