i have been on this new job for the past 10 months and when i went there i was still a loyal jw and told them i did not celebrate holidays and birthdays.
being a wt slave for the past 27 years just recently (4/5 months) took off the physical chains but still have the mental shackles on to a degree.

After you got baptized
by freedom96 inwhen my mom was studying, the sisters went out of their way to love on her, and to help her out.
she was a single mom back then.
one of the biggest things they did was babysit for her, while she had to go out and work.

The over abundance of attention is common among the cults. I think it's called love bombing. Once they get you where they want, and the honeymoon phase is over, ZAP!, you're just another part of the furniture.

JW kids & Dec. stress
by wheelwithinwheel indecember used to be the worst month of the year for me.
i still remember making a santa out of a toilet paper roll, red crepe paper and some cotton in one of my first years of school.
when i brought it home, knowing it probably wasnt right, the parents reaction convinced me i was a real sinner.

I now look back and feel badly what some JW kids go thru during the holidays. The holidays are a stressful time of year for many, especially the elderly. I was lucky, I celebrated Christmas when I was a kid. And I feel like a kid all over again since I started celebrating again and not feeling ashamed when I hum "Oh Holy Night."

Big Tex, I remember a little bit about the Beatles. I remember when I was 4 and they were at some stadium (may have been their concert at Candlestick Park) and the girls absolutely screaming and going into a complete hysterical frenzy and climbing the huge nets at the park. I asked my Mom why they were acting like that. She said they were just some crazy teen girls. I totally did not understand that in my 4 year old mind. But this year, when I saw Paul in concert, I was screaming like crazy along with all the other women in the arena. What absolute fun to finally scream at a Beatle. Even if I had to wait 36 years!

Thanks orangefatcat.
Now the reverse: What's the nicest thing I ever did for anyone? I was fortunate to help a woman find her long lost family...my grandfather's "love child" from the 1950's. DNA testing proved a long lost secret...I found this woman via a post on the Internet almost 3 years ago in a genealogy surname website. She told me for the first time in 45 years, she felt whole! Isn't that cool?????

Picketing at the KHs
by Yizuman ini read stories about some people picket at the khs.
some have signs that read, "would jehovah mislead you if you studied the bible alone without the watchtower?
have you had your kh picketed on?
-

I never saw picketing at our KH, just a few times at the conventions in Fort Worth in the 1980's. Basically everyone ignored them...

Doubts that led to your departure

what event made you realize that you were serving a phony organization, and what was the turning point that made you see clear?.

That list would be a long one indeed. But basically all the rules, can't do this, can't do that. A JW has to worry about everything, not being able to reason, and having to go to the elders or do research in the WT publication before a decision could be made. Their attitude towards women in general. The blood issue, always being discussed, why we couldn't have a blood transfusion, and studying endless books about why we couldn't celebrate this, celebrate that...the WT is Legalism, Inc.
