Work: Either become a robot, or we'll get rid of you
by berylblue inthat is a verbatim quote.
i was told, "the client is not paying you to be yourself.
it is paying you to be a robot.

I worked at the law firm from hell for a while several years ago. Nothing I did was ever correct, it was always something that wasn't right. The turnover rate was well over 80 percent. I stayed 6 months and that was a long six months. I finally couldn't take it and asked my supervisor to fire me. It was the only way I could get unemployment. I even hugged her when I left. She wasn't the problem, the higher-ups like the office manager who growled about every little thing.

She works hard for the money
by Sadie5 inwell folks, i am officially a "wal-mart associate".
my job is answering the phone and straighting up the racks in ladies clothing.
i work afternoon-evening, and it hasn't been too bad.. i had to watch several tapes of sam walton cheering on his associates as well as other tapes about proctecting your back, carding for tobacco and so on.

Wal-Mart and Target have their own verbiage. I worked at Target for 2 1/2 years, part-time and mostly weekends. I was single and had all the time in the world to do that. I first worked in the office, then they put the operators onto the floor and made us work in the ladies fitting room. Pretty easy job, just hand them the hangers with the number of items on them and take them back. The fun part was seeing what people did after they left the fitting room. The bra boxes that were filled with the old bras of the former owners and they walked out with their new lingerie undetected. Child's throw-up on the carpet. (that was pretty easy to detect.) The parents who insisted on taking the shopping carts into the dressing room when they were told they couldn't. I'd love getting into it with those grandmothers. Then when it wasn't busy, we had to "zone" or go straighten out the floor. Pretty easy, just organizing the clothes. When the phones were busy, I couldn't do both jobs very effectively. One of the managers everyone hated(I refer to her as Mrs. Spoon, because she was always stirring up stuff.) enjoyed coming over to our area and make trouble and enjoyed yelling at us. I told her she could yell at those little 18 year olds, but I was over 30 and she better lay off. She gave me one of those "if looks could kill" and left me alone after that.
By the way, Good luck!

Gregory Peck, Katharine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Bette Davis, Cary Grant
The only living I actually like is Jodie Foster and Gene Hackman. Both are superb.

Sometimes they do something caring...
by jws ini was talking to my dad this weekend and he mentioned that the jws in his congregation and others were planning to rent out a park pavilion and throw a party for a guy to cheer him up because he's been pretty sad after his wife died a few months ago.. first thought was, after hearing all the stories about how cold and heartless the jws can be, here was one example of them seeming to show some genuine concern.. of course, not to let them off the hook entirely, this guy was pretty well known.
i've been away from it for a while and he wasn't part of our hall so i don't remember his resume all that well, but i'm certain he was an elder and i think has at least a couple of sons who are elders and i think he played a big role in helping run conventions.
your average non-ms, non-elder, isn't very likely to get a pavilion full of friends.. i give them credit for showing concern, but there are a lot of people who also need help and fall through the cracks.
