I was there for a month and toured the east coast. It was absolutely beautiful!!
I was there about a month and went to the tennis Open in January. I lived with a family I have been friends with since the early 1980's. I found it very provencal. Reminded me of the US in the late 1950's. The merchants are clueless about retail business, no stock, poorly displayed, very poor customer service. Evidence of "the tall poppy syndrone" abounded. My take is that it is a country with nearly unlimited potenial, suffering under the shadow of a decaying Empire, lacking a clear self image. Your tourist board is to be commented, they are the one group that knows how to market a product. But keep in mind, the two national spokesmen, Paul Hogan and Steve Irwin both have American wives and spend a good deal of time in the US! This should tell you something! In conclusion, if my friend stays there I'd go back, if not...well. Maverick
I have a friend staying with me from Sidney,( Randwick) for 8 days-she goes home friday.Loves Canada. But is wondering what is happening sports wise over there
Bliss,
I have never been to Australia, that is still a dream of mine. Hopefully one day I will be able to visit the beautiful, down under.

Hey Mouthy..................I was in Sydney last weekend. My son went to see an American performer by the name of Marylin Manson. I found out at work that his stage show had unusual uses for drum sticks and microphones.
I'm sorry I can't be much help to your friend though. I'm afraid the Aussie sport culture is something I never truely embraced. I get sick of the fanaticism and obsession, and I especially hate the long cricket season. All I know is that the Canberra Raiders lost last weekend, ending their chances of playing the rugby finals.
But the weather is improving and spring is beautiful, apart from the swooping magpies.

Dimples, you're always welcome to drop in here when you come.
Cheers.

Thanks for the info Bliss
Another important (to us) bit of info, Mouthy, is that the capital of New South Wales, the Olympic city, is Sydney. OK? Good, glad to help!!!
