Has being a Jehova's witness totally shattered your faith?
by Silvia Plath injust because the watchtower society is wrong doesn't mean that there is no god, nor does it mean there is a god.
it would interesting to now how former members have adjusted thier cosmology, or whether they are now atheists and why.
i personally see religion as a more personal matter, rather than belonging to an organization.

Brittle minds are shattered when belief systems collapse and this teaches us to be prepared for change and development.
A grasp of reality requires no belief system or faith - just courageous awareness and honesty

yet with all of this stuff happening in the mideast....with al gore's "an inconvenient truth" and scientists backing him up...with nkorea....with "christian" rhetoric....with pornography taking over the minds of our men.....bird flu....debt up to the eyeballs....complacency....pacs.....enron...corruption...serial killers in phoenix.....shrinking dollar....economy being sold to overseas.....etc.
can anyone reassure me?

Why look at the negative things and then list them all together?
I have just returned from a walking holiday in Wales UK. The beautiful old village of Crickhowell is surrounded by green hills and mountains which lead down to the river Usk. To me heaven is a place on earth.
Not everyone is as privileged as those of us who live in the USA or the UK but there is so much beauty and good in the world if you seek it out.

by bigmouth insome time ago i attracted some really agressive responses that surprised me because i had no intention of offending so i had to learn a lot about how to word things on this forum, smiley faces etc so others would know i was pulling their leg, but i oftened wondered if a posters nickname or avatar puts you off instantly??
you know, first impressions.
i would think someone like satanus or mouthy would be intimidating but miss peaches was as nice as pie and this thinking might reflect how i would reply.

lets imagine that the watchtower was a brand new religion that just started.. and up to now, they didn't make any false prophesy yet, and they would be preaching that the end is soon and they would have the same life style and internal laws.. in other words, their past wouldn't be there to haunt them.. do you think that more people would join it?

The Great Watchtower Porn Panic
by metatron insome years ago, when the 'voluntary donation' arrangement was announced, the society followed it up with a period of near panic.. they flooded the kingdom ministry, watchtower and circuit assemblies with pleas "reminding" the friends to open up their wallets.. eventually, they calmed down and accepted the situation, especially after coming up with new scams involving "deficits" at assemblies.
and appeals for property being willed to them.. .
it is with this background that i note a burst of emphasis about porn.

The Chinese seem resistant to anything that is American - apart from the dollar, which they are stockpiling billions of.
Any attempt by the American inspired Watchtower Society to challenge the authority of Chinese power would be resisted.

Is all religion just about personal egotism?
by jambon1 inas an atheist, i feel like i am coming to terms with my mortality.
one day i will die, just like the beasts of the field.
it has lead me to think about the whole concept of religion, a personal god, one who approves or disapproves of our individual actions.

As stated - Western religion is often about maintaning the ego of supporting a political power structure within churches.
Some spiritual traditions talk of the death of the ego, enlightenment and transcendanec. EG Krishnamurti,Gurdjiefrf, osho, Bennet....
Some more liberal individuals are able to follow this path within the confines of Christianity but end up being attacked by other Christians who have huge egos to maintain.
