A lot of people who leave the Jehovah’s Witnesses set up, just exchange one goldfish bowl for another.
Real escape involves leaping from the bowl and learning to live on the outside.
when i left the witnesses, a person from work gave me a video about the witnesses that his church uses.
i thought it would be interesting, so i set down and watched it.
what i found was another example of one church taking about another, to then counter with points that support their way of thinking.

i heard once a comment or quote that said something to the affect,.
"do learn from negative people, is to lower yourself to their thinking and to learn from their vast years of mediocrity".
with that said, i think it pays sometimes to reflect on who we listen too in our life, and more important, who we strive to please and be life.
To me - there is no such thing as a negative experience in the giant scheme of things. All experience is worthwhile and contributes towards personal growth.
We sometimes learn the most from what we perceive as negative experiences. Our biggest growth spurts come from our most painful experiences. The joy of life when it is going well is deepened by our experience of the bad times.
Observing negative people and the impact their negativity has on their lives is a helpful and worthwhile exercise. Everyone has their story and their reasons.............
.
this is some hilarious tomfoolery.
his charles manson-esque beard doesn't seem to help, either.. mel may be a powerful guy, but something tells me there'll be a price to pay for his anti-semitic remarks, even if they were made in a sauced-up state.
It has been understood for a long time that the Jews are a special nation, chosen by Jehovah and are not to be criticised. They can call all gentiles unclean and forbid their sons and daughters from marrying out side of their special nation. They can employ their own people to the exclusion of unclean outsiders. We of course must never treat them in the same way.
They expect to rule the world one day as it is promised in the Bible that they will. So we had better watch out and show them the respect they demand. This all rings a bell with me? Of course - they are not the only group to do this!
Watch out Mel. You are outnumbered.
a local man, a non-jw church member, committed suicide last week.
my wife, as usual, prepared a covered dish and took it to their house as an expression of sympathy and to help out.
she just received a thank you card from them and i thought i'd share part of it: .
suicide is a disfellowshipping offence. It is considered murder
This is an interesting viewpoint and English law, for a long time, held the same view.
But murder is the taking of life without consent. If it is our life we take and we consent to do this, then it is not murder.
In any case it is always very sad when someone reaches the point where they cannot see a way forward and feel that suicide is the only move left.
Tragic but not at all rare.
having cooled down a bit in the garden i got to thinking about what this board has given me and wondered what anyone else feels they have gained from it.. for me its been invaluable and even life changing:.
1) freedom from the brainwashing - when i came here i had already read ray franz's books and still believed it jws had the truth - hat i was basically worthless and that i would die at armageddon.
the reasoned conversations and help of the posters from all over the world has enabled me to have freedom of thought - something i didnt even know i didnt have until i spent time here.. 2) friends who empathise and know from an experience what i have been through in a way outsiders can never possiby understand.. 3) entertainment - unbelievable laughs and moments of humour that have cheered me up so many times.. 4) association - via the aposta bbqs and telephone chats i can now have so i don't feel so isolated and to some extent alleviates the awful pain of separation from my loved family.. 5) information - from this board and posters here i have found out things that were my right to know but would never have learnt otherwise - my sisters marriage, my aunts tragic death.. 6) reunions - i have now met at least one person who knows me from my childhood and has grown into a man of such kindness and patience that i would have missed out on completely had he not been here and been kind enough to hold my hand - even when i've been an irritating totured little idiot!.
People to talk to when my wife is ignoring me and it has helped my spelling!
i ordered and received in the mail yesterday my t-shirt (above) just in time for the apostafest at the end of this month (sweatfest in dallas).. what other sly t-shirts, cups and such are "out there" that we may not have seen or known about that would be a conversation starter?.
(note: i have no connection to the selling, manufacture or distribution of said items) .

Yeah - but why aren't you wearing it? Is this the only shirt you have?
i was just skimming through lt's intolerance thread and it seemed to me that sometimes tolerance is a terrible thing.
we don't tolerate racism, sexism or abuse and punish it when we can.
we expose and ridicule individuals and corporations if they are found guilty of fraud or deceit because we are intolerant of dishonesty.
This is an interesting question. Tolerance is an engineering term and measures the amount of stress something can be subjected to before it breaks.
When we suffer in silence at other peoples selfish behaviour we are under stress. Give enough stress we too can snap.
So does tolerance involve suffering in silence and not reacting and taking action to stop the stress or does tolerance imply that we are genuinely not affected much by other people?
In other words is out tolerance level determined by the point at which we suffer or the point at which we snap?
Have I over analysed this light hearted thread? Can’t help it you will all have to tolerate me…
when i was a jw, i believed what i was told to believe.
after all it was the truth.
but now i no longer believe that what they were telling me was the truth.
Most people like to think they are open to new ideas or open minded but we are seldom the best judge of ourselves.
I was talking to two Jehovah’s Witnesses recently and I accused them of being narrow minded. They were genuinely shocked and told me that - Jehovah’s Witnesses are the Most Open Minded People On Earth.
Well there you go…
.
...the one and only.. on another thread lisa said her goodbyes and i just wanted her to know that despite the way it may appear she will be missed.
come back soon.. j2s
just2sheep you told Little Toe:
you are a turkey that needs to get stuffed.
But it seems a sheep got stuffed instead and to think some people say there is no God!
i was thinking about this today and was wondering what the wts has to say about such things ?.
isaiah 43:10 : ... before me no god was formed nor will there be one after me.... john 1:1 (nwt): ... the word was a god .... john 1:2 : ... he was with god in the beginning .... if no god would ever be formed before and no god would be formed after, when was jesus christ ( a mighty god - isa 9:6 ) formed ?
i think the bible makes itself quite clear regarding time, first and last, alpha and omega, beginning and end, before and after, morning and evening etc.. so i would think that saying god is not within a form of time albiet a different time to ours (days = years) wouldn't hold water when compared to the scriptures... rev 1:17 - ... do not be afraid.
Millions of people claim that he is in their lives.
Why not ask him? Is he not blessed with the power of speech?
