I very much doubt that this is what Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin would have wanted

Sting Rays Being Slaughtered and Mutilated in Irwin backlash
by Crumpet inhttp://uk.news.yahoo.com/12092006/140/irwin-backlash-stingrays-slaughtered.html.
at least 10 stingrays have been found dead and mutilated on australia's eastern coast since crocodile hunter steve irwin was killed by one of the animals last week.
the killings have prompted fears of "revenge attacks" against the normally docile fish.

It seems ex jw's in the UK are angrier than anywhere else why?
by hambeak ini admittedly am new to this and i am not being judgmental.
why does it seem that when i read the threads from folks in the uk it seems they are preoccupied with a lot of research into the wts and changes into their beliefs?
why not just let it go and go on with life.

People who live in the UK are generally angrier than those in big countries. The UK is a group of small islands and the most overcrowded is the English mainland.
This claustrophobic way of living produces a form of mental constipation which expresses itself as anger.
Got to go - I am about to have an anger attack?arghh?

Good point Mary!
Here is a quote along the same lines:
The march of time moved on relentlessly. The Watchtower Society began to alter their definition of a generation and stretch their credulity to the limit. When 1995 arrived they realized they would have to come clean and admit that they were wrong. That Armageddon was in fact further away than they had thought, unless there was another way out.
The faithful men of old had not returned physically as promised. The promised return of Jesus to earth had been explained away as an invisible return that they had failed to notice. It was now claimed that many of the promises regarding Israel had been fulfilled on the Witnesses in a spiritual or pictorial way. The promised paradise was, for now, a spiritual paradise.
It would have only been one step more for the Society to declare that Armageddon was to be fought in a spiritual realm and would be one more invisible fulfilment not be seen by the members. They could have written another book explaining that Armageddon had already taken place invisibly and they had missed this event too, but could explain it all, using that wonderful tool of hindsight. Perhaps giving the due apology for having encouraged some of the older members to spend their lives speculating about how many days or years make up a generation...

WHY WAS THE ROTATION OF THE PRESIDING OVERSEER DISCONTINUED?
by juni inway back one man was the presiding overseer of the congregation.
then in the ' 70s they started the arrangement of the body of elders w/one being the po.
during this time they started w/the practice of rotating the entire boe so that each member would be serving in a different capacity - theocratic ministry school overseer, field overseer, literature overseer, secretary, etc.

What did they say was wrong with Hypnosis??
by mama1119 inmy doctor wants me to try hypnosis to help my sleep and anxiety.
he says it is just a matter of making your mind focus on what you want it to do.
i cannot remember what was supposedly wrong with it in the borg??

Hypnosis still suffers from the old idea that the hypnotist possesses special occult powers.
Actually hypnosis is a natural state of mind that we spontaneously enter at various times. It is not unlike day-dreaming. In hypnotherapy the therapist will utilise this relaxed state of mind to make positive suggestions. Also it is this state of mind that we have clearer access to our emotional state and what may be causing our difficulties.
By the way I am a registered member of the National Council of Hypnotherapists in the UK

THE BIG A: RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER.
by Mary inwhere did all the witnesses over the decades get the idea that armageddon was right around the corner?
the society certainly never put anything like that down in print:
*** w56 10/15 p. 614 when will gods kingdom come?

When I was a mind-numbed Jehovah’s Witness, the imminent Armageddon theory was referred to as - When The Big Crunch Comes. I had visions of a huge new chocolate bar marching out of Cadburys and taking the world by storm.
Sometimes I miss living in a world of fantasy where we were all specially chosen agents living life on the edge of reality. Moving among a world full of people who had no idea of the great event that was about to happen any day…soon...just around the corner…er…um..

If there was no religion
by KW13 in.
i was thinking today, imagine if people had their faiths and opinions but no actual religion backing them up.. i believe that it would help stop cults e.t.c making money off people and controlling peoples lives and would help make the world a lot more peaceful.. i've yet to come across a religion that doesn't have problems or in some way is hypocritical.. what do you think?
-
trevor
What is religion but a search for an understanding of the awesome power that pervades the universe and a search for answers that make sense. People can make any belief system into their own religion.
Organized religion goes beyond this and involves politics, control and money. Still with all its faults including the wars fought in its name, religion has given people a structure and moral code to live within. It offers hope and comfort in difficult times.
Only a society composed of truly mature people can be improved by the absence of organized religion. Until then the illusion and hope that it offers may still be needed.
Until everyone in the world can swim, maybe we need to keep the arm floats available.
YAWN… I will post some more meanderings…next week

Drop Dead Gorgeous!
by Outaservice inback when i was attending kingdom halls, our circuit had a lot of 'drop dead gorgeous' women, many whom were married to the geekiest looking guys.
i always asked myself, "how did these 'dorks' do it"!.
was this because selection was limited, or was this just a peculiarity in our area?

The main requirements for a ‘brother’ to be attractive are:
He must be spiritual minded - which means he is totally under the control of the Watchtower Society and has lost all ability to reason for himself. He must love Jehovah.
He is regular. This has nothing to do with bowel movements but refers to his meeting attendance and Field Ministry.
He always wears a suit - but it must be a cheap suit as ‘flashy’ is a no - no.
He earns a modest living doing a menial job to demonstrate his humility and obedience to the Watchtower Society. This form of secular work shows he is desirous of fine works, That means Pioneering. If he is a Pioneer - then BINGO!
He may have short greasy hair and appear to the world at large like a total dork but in the eyes of a sexually starved young sister he is a gift from God.
I KNOW - I WAS THAT MAN!
