  YOU THINK LIKE A JW !!!

  the above phrase has been bandied about in the past and present, often as a form of insult when the poster disagrees with something another poster has said.. but what exactly do they mean?.

  how do you think like a jw?

  is there a certain code of synapses that distinguish a jw from a non-jw?.

  I have enjoyed a number of your posts.

  I agree that the Jehovah's Witness set up has many paroles with the Nazis, not least of which is their belief that the ‘final solution’ is to kill off all but a chosen few. I once told my brother, who is an elder, that what the Jehovah's Witnesses look forward to, make Hitler’s efforts look like a playground fight.

  He doesn’t speak to me anymore! I wonder why?

  Unlike other people the Witnesses cannot change their views on a subject as new evidence comes to light. They have to tow the party line. People may argue and disagree then alter their views. The Jehovah's Witness is simply not free to do this. It is called, running ahead, rebellion and at worse apostasy.

  Did God create Adam to Live forever??

  as a jw i was taught god created adam to live forever, but the genesis account seems to say otherwise:.

  well first theres this weird problem, the bible says god created man and woman on the same day, the sixth day.

  Prisca,
  I find JW's have what I call a brick wall mentality.As you talk to a Witness you become aware that however persuasive your argument, however irrefutable the facts you present, seldom will anything you say reach his or her mind, if they listen at all. It can be like talking to a brick wall.
  
  A normal mind will listen to all the facts and then form an opinion. Witnesses will not allow the facts into their minds, either by walking away from the attempted breach of the wall or letting the wall prevent the attempted intrusion. As far as they are concerned they already have all the facts and their commission is to convince you that they have the truth.

  To reach the mind of a Witness one has to overcome this wall. Trying to take the wall down seldom works because for every brick you remove, the Witness has a counter move. In most instances the Witness can rebuild the wall faster than it can be torn down. Should you start to get through, the Witness will withdraw to the safety of the other members who will help to rebuild the wall. This is called “strengthening a weak member.”

  They are afraid to think and reason in an honest way, because whatever they learn, they must return to the mindset that is required of them. They are simply not free to think. They have brains but they have become brittle through the brainwashing they are subjected to.

  letter to the society

  here is a rough version of a letter i intend to send to the society regarding an article in the july 1 2001 watchtower about doubt.. any suggestions on how i can improve the letter?.

  also what are the odds on getting in big trouble in sending this?.

  sleepy - If I were you I wouldn't bother,

  You might as well pour water on the ducks nearest to you. The Bethel Boppers are impervious to such an approach.

  You might do better distributing copies to elders and kingdom halls of better still try to get the local newspaper to print it as an open letter to the Borg.

  10 Nutty Beliefs!

  dr albert ellis has identified 10 irrational beliefs that can influence us and contribute to over reacting in specific situations.. knowing them is the first step in taking back your personal power and not becoming a casuality of such irrational thought.these screwy beliefs tend to make us 'awfulize,think in terms of 'they should,i should' and dysfunctional rationalizations.. 1. worrying too much about what other people think of you.

  excessive worrying creates a strong fear of rejection.. these folks will ignore the self to please others or will display this insecurity by attacking others in order to stay distant and detached.. 2. i must not fail at important tasks,and if i do it's terrible and i can't stand it.. 3.people and things should always turn out the way i want them to-and if they don't it's awful,terrible and horrible,and i can't stand it.. 4.if any of the first 3 bad events happens(if im not liked or respected,if i fail,or if things don't turn out as i'd like-then i'll always blame someone for it!

  they acted wrongly,as they should not have done,and they are rotten people for acting in that terrible way!.

  Thanks for an interesting post.
  I belive that if we seek perfection in life we will always be disappointed. I have what I call the 90% rule. When I buy something, have a meal out or go on holiday, I allow for a 10% margin of disappointment. If I get 90% of what I expect I don’t bother to complain. That is as good as it gets and expecting more will lead to frustration.

  The perfectionist will always spoil any event by complaining of how if falls short; it always will. I allow myself the same margin of error and a much larger margin of tolerance for my friends. Life is much more fun when one learns to just let things that don’t really matter, go.

  Most of our imagined hurts are caused because we had the wrong expectations in the first place. This also applies to our spiritual beliefs. As I said on another thread – Truth will not tune itself to us, we must tune ourselves to truth.

  My view of Absolute TRUTH

  when helping my children out of the jws, we discussed the watch tower claim that their religion is the only true religion, and all other religions are false religions.

  during one such discussion, my oldest son asked how i deal with this claim.

  i responded by saying, "the san francisco 49rs are the only true football team, and all other football teams are false football teams.. he, being a washington redskins fan, suddenly got my point.

  Amazing

  That's a good point. Truth to many people is hearing what they want to hear. Real truth is only available to those who listen with an open mind and accept reality however painfiul it is. Beyond that point, truth becomes agreeable and welcome, whatever message it brings.

  Truth never tunes itself to us, we have to tune ourselves to truth.

  JWs on the Job Market - let them stay unemployed!

  there has been some protests to my former postings on this subject, and the protests goes on "freedom of religion".

  the fact that someone do get a job because his emplyer expects his employee to actually do the job, doesn't seem to worry much.. how come the jws are unreliable?

  Kent, Common Objectives & William Barclay

  i was always impressed with the way that william barclay could encapsulate large and very complex issues into, not just a simple form ( are you listening duns!

  ) but with a sincere purity attached.

  i was honored to meet him when i was very young man in my university years and though a convinced atheist at the time who actually shoved socialist newspapers at people in my local high street, i could not ignore the genuine tranquillity that accompanied this wonderful personality.

  I don't believe that everyone wants to be loved. If they have a deep rooted belief that they are unlovable they will resist all attempts to receive love.

  Attempts to force love on them will result in a reversal and they will reserve a special hatred for the one who has tried. This is because they make them aware of the flaw that is at the heart of their problem - the inability receive or give love. Only by changing their belief will they be able to accept love.

  The JW's have been trained to only feel love towards those who love Jehovah. Outsiders who are kind and loving towards them cause a conflict in their minds. The outsider must have some serious flaw which makes them deserving of death. If a fault cannot be found then one must be invented. It is just not possible that sinful outsiders and apostates could actually possess the love that they alone claim to have.

  Those JW's who are able to feel a deep affection for non-JW's are usually the ones that eventualy leave.
