What is the point of women covering their heads?
Now a mouth covering...well that has merit!
ha ha i was laughing just now, had a strange memory.. when stepdad was away and/or when mum was playing the male role of jw head of household she used to cover her head.
anything...a hat, a scarf, tea towel (no lie!!)..
this was i think from the reasoning book or something, but yeh...covering her head out of respect for jehovah.
What is the point of women covering their heads?
Now a mouth covering...well that has merit!
the bible talks about life and many truths.
from beginning to end.. there is history in the bible.. jesus is the creator.. if he made adam and eve at the beginning then, they could not have evolved.
further, if evolution were true, why are there any monkeys left?
Obviously you posted this with the intention of receiving a response and I am still fool enough to play along.
It must be wonderful to go through life so blissfully unaware of reality. On the other hand you could be missing so much?
Give the Easter bunnies a kiss for me.
interesting topic...i've been thinking about any topic, then i ran into this one..why?
just think....jesus didn't come into this world to judge, but to love and serve.
peace
We have had this debate so many times, Some want to believe that Jesus was a nice man in sandals who turned water into wine and forgave adulterers. Others quote the scriptures that describe him as fiend on a horse out to seek vengeance.
Others reject the entire Biblical portrayal of him and invent a Jesus that fits in comfortable with their own experience of life.
Jesus is to religion what plastic is to the modern world. You can do anything with him, mould him to any shape or color that suits your need -hard or soft, sharp or smooth.
Wish fulfilment has many forms and labels - but why call the product Jesus?
hi everyone, i have a friend, who wants me to attend the meetings again.
he has said that the faithful and discreet slave are inviting those that have not attended for awhile, to come to the memorial, and then there is going to be a special talk in april-may, and then they want us to come to the convention in the summer.
which apparently will be about welcoming those who once were involved to come back.
It is only right that they should try to herd the sheep back into their pen.Baaaaaaaah!
who is old enough to remember when witnesses used eagerly to meet on a friday or saturday night to "pre-study" the watchtower in groups: reading paragraphs, underlining, reading scriptures (sometimes)?.
what happened to that, does anyone still do it anywhere?
i think witnesses are just not as enthusiastic about the "truth" as they used to be.
Yeah! I used to attend an hour long pre-study of the Watchtower.
It was treated as though we were struggling to grasp some ground breaking advanced scientific formula. In reality, a quick glance through the article was all that was really required to grasp the entire contents.
The repetitive attention to these articles was a form of brainwashing or hypnosis. When we read and re-read information that we are bored with, the conscious mind cuts out. The information then by-passes the rational mind and lodges itself in the memory of the non-conscious part of our mind.
i've noticed several posts talking about depression, guilt, fear while being a witness.. my question is, because of the psychological trauma and years of indoctrination, do you still find it difficult to be fully functional and free even after you have decided to leave the wt?
do some people find certain types of intimacy still difficult?
celebrations?
Whether we are aware of it or not, the Watchtower experience has left it's fingerprints on us.
why do good looking people turn us on?
i ask this, as the continuation of the species, is not based on looks.
an ugly human, can produce children as well as a super model or a well built man.
Whether or not someone is good looking is a subjective opinion. We are sometimes attracted to people who look like us or are repelled, depending on how we feel about the way we look.
The culture we live in determines what is currently in fashion. For example fat women are revered in African culture but not in Western culture. Also attraction is a very personal thing. Good looks alone don't make a person attractive. Sometimes very plain people have a sensuality that make them more exciting than exceptionaly 'good looking' people.
after years of silence (and hence peace) someone from my jw days has decided to track me down in the hopes of "catching up.
" now she knows where my new house is, and more than likely my phone number as well (makes me grateful for caller id.
) this jw did something to me when i was in high school that i will never, ever forgive her for; what's more, i don't even like her as a person - she's overbearing, egotistical and can be smothering at times.
DarkSide Blues
tell her to f*** off?
You got it!

the value of 'a weaker vessel'.
it is a proven scientific fact that men can only focus on one thing at a time; they have a hard time multi-tasking.
YAWN!
so i went to last nights bookstudy which discusses 6 paragraphs of the daniel book so there was lots of room for comment.
the study itself already was pretty frustrating it was taken from chapter 17 paragraphs 24-29 and it goes on about how the fds has to be lead by jehovah because of all the prophecies of daniel that fits them (1335 days was this convention to that etc etc).
but the paragraphs also mention the failed prediction for 1925. here are some interresting quotes from the book: .
GBSJG
So they said this at your book study.
"At that time, there was a widely held view that pointed to 1925 as the year for the resurrection to begin and for Paradise to be restored to the earth. Thus, many were serving with a fixed date in mind."
They tried the same fudge in 1975 in an attempt to blame the member ship for their disappointment that year:
“1925 was a sad year for many of the brothers. Some of them were stumbled; their hopes were dashed. They had hoped to see some of the ‘ancient worthies’ (men of old like Abraham) resurrected. Instead of it’s being considered a ‘probability,’ they read into it that it was a ‘certainty’ and some prepared for their own loved ones with expectancy of the resurrection
.” (1975 Yearbook of Jehovah's Witnesses - Page - 146)Apparently the disappointed members had “read in to it that it was a certainty.” How else does one understand the statements made by the Society’s president in the 1920 booklet, “Millions Now Living Will Never Die?”
“As we have heretofore stated, the great jubilee cycle is due to begin in 1925.”
“Therefore we may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old, particularly those named by the Apostle in Hebrews chapter eleven, to the condition of human perfection.”
“Then, based upon the promises set forth in the divine Word, we must reach the positive and indisputable conclusion that millions now living will never die.”
