Short of God coming down herself
Coming down from where? Love is all around.
short of god coming down herself to say "howdy y'all!
" what would it take to make you a believer in god?.
not necessarily the god of the bible or any religion in particular, just a supreme deity of some sort, call it ra, thor or chaos.

i was sent this ... apparently it's from jeremy clarksons newspaper column after his co-host on top gear, richard hammond, was badly injured in a 300 mph + crash .... .
september 23, 2006. in the wee small hours of thursday night, just 30 hours after what is almost certainly the worlds fastest ever car crash, richard hammond suddenly sat up in bed, opened his eyes and asked what had happened.
youve been in a car accident, i said.
A very witty and touching article by Jeremy Clarkson. I am glad the hamster is OK! I hope we get to see the crash some time.
I am a fan of the show too. Thanks Simon
hello all.. forgive my ignorance, but what exactly was the generation change, and what are the implications for jw doctrine?.
although i rarely missed a meeting until a couple of years ago, this either went over my head or i wasn't listening (most likley).. i'm not the sharpest tool in the box so please keep it simple!
references would be nice.. thanks.
“Eager to see the end of this evil system, Jehovah’s people have at times speculated about the time when the “great tribulation” would break out, even tying this to calculations of what is the lifetime of a generation since 1914. However we “bring a heart of wisdom in.” Not by speculating about how many days or years make up a generation, but by thinking about how we “count our days” in bringing joyful praise to Jehovah. (Psalm 90:12) Rather than provide a rule for measuring time, the term “generation” as used by Jesus refers principally to contemporary people of a certain historic period, with their identifying characteristics”
“Is anything to be gained, then, by looking for dates or by speculating about the literal lifetime of a “generation”? Far from it! Therefore, in the final fulfilment of Jesus’ prophecy today, “this generation” apparently refers to the people of the earth who see the sign of Christ’s presence but fail to mend their ways. Does our more precise viewpoint on “this Generation” mean that Armageddon is further away than we had thought? Not at all.” Watchtower 1 Nov. 1995 Pages 17-20
Did you notice that the Society did not say – We have at times speculated, but “Jehovah’s people have at times speculated.” The blame for a lifetime of misinterpreting the scriptures and making false prophecies in God’s name is shared with the membership. These are the same members that were threatened with excommunication if they ever dared to challenge the pronouncements coming from the Society, who claim to be “God’s mouthpiece.”
Having spent the last hundred years warning their members and millions of non-members that the world as we know it is about to end, the Society eventually admits that the single verse of scripture that they have based this prediction on is now to be understood differently. Surely this means that Armageddon is further away than they had thought? According to the Watchtower Society -“Not at all!”
Is this an honest way to deal with
such a fundamental shift of belief? Many of the membership had built their lives around the time-scale dictated to them by the Society. Some had not planned for retirement having been categorically assured that they would never reach old age. Others had sacrificed their careers and family life to give greater service. What now? The Society are fond of assuring its members that God will one day reward them for the sacrifices they have made. They quote from the Bible “for he is not unrighteous soas to forget the love that you showed for his name.” But is it showing love for someone’s name to spread false promises in their name and make it an object of ridicule?
What of the members who secretly doubted the Society's advice and went to college and later took up a full time career? Some even married and had families while feeling guilty for totally ignoring the Society's advice. Such people at the time were considered “weak in the faith,” and yet a lifetime later their decisions have proved to be based on a more accurate view of the future than the Society had proclaimed. They did show a lack of faith in the Watchtower Society. But then the Bible states that the requirement for Christians is faith in Jesus Christ.

how would that make you feel if we were the only pleasant accident in inhospitable universe, if such 'miracle' newer happened elsewhere in our universe?
if there are no other alien civilizations that could rescue us or ?show us the way?
as some popular writers like to think.
An excellent video James. I was even able to see the planet my wife tells me I am from!
ok i've been trying to understand this.... there are a good number of christians out there who most definitely believe that god used evolution as a means of creating us.
for instance, i am pretty sure that the catholic church accepts this idea.. if man came about by evolution, how does sin come into play?
at what point did man sin and how does the story of adam and eve fit into this picture?.
Morality is a changing thing. Morality, of course, applies to all aspects of life but when it come to sex - for example, in a world where the human race were dying out through lack of childbirth, it would be people?s moral duty to engage in unprotected sex in order to fill the gap - so to speak!
However, in a world that faced ruin due to overcrowding, the opposite would be true and advantages to gay sex could be argued.
The strict moral laws on sex have been created and adjusted to suit the need of each society as the need arose - so to speak!

Morality - good - bad - sin are all subjective terms. Even the alleged god of The Bible - Jehovah, showed how expendable his own laws and principles were when it suited him.
The whole universe is in a continued state of evolution, seeking to advance and improve. This how life works. Morality is conduct that benefits the human race and allows it to continue its evolutionary journey.
The Watchtower Society said in their Evolution book, that evolution was like an explosion in a printing factory producing an encyclopaedia. This is an ignorant statement. Evolution is not a blind process but an intelligent process, in the same way as we talk about - the evolution of the motor car but we do not think it happened as a result of an explosion in a car factory.

Zagor - Cheer up!
As humans we are an expression of the life force that underlines all manifestations of life. This power is demonstrated throughout the universe. Many of the forces we harness and use are invisible to the human eye. How much more is there that we have yet to become aware of?
How can we possibly be alone?
i realized today that when i was a dub i unconsciously made a distinction between jehovah god and god.
i had always thought of god as infinite eternal conscious energy and love, the sum and ground of being itself.
impersonal except as personified in sentient beings such as ourselves.
Reminds me of a song:
Away out here they got a name
For rain and wind and fire
The rain is Tess, the fire Joe,
And they call the wind Maria

that still belong to the watchtower society.
your family still attend all the meetings and still consider themselves.
My whole family remain out of the truth. They are all Jehovah's Witnesses and would not recognize the truth if it came up and bit their aspirations.
it doesn't seem two minutes since i first joined this site.
on the other hand it feels like i've been here forever, accumulating about 15,000 posts in the process.. it was a wednesday (12 september 2001) on a small island off the west coast of scotland .
in recent months i had experienced a spiritual awakening of such proportions that it caused me to question one after another of the beliefs that i'd been raised with as a jw.

Glad you are still around.
You caused me to think about my attitude towards Christians when you asked me why I bothered to be critical if I was not interested in Christianity. You have broadened my mind towards the whole idea of faith and its value.
