Hey there - so sorry for the loss of your beloved dog. It's one of the worst pains imaginable. How lucky your little maltese was to be loved so much. I'm sure you gave your pup a great life and you were/are loved in return for that. Peace to you.

Flood insurance and cover for overland flooding
by Simon inwith the huge floods in alberta the news now is starting to cover the issue of property damange and insurance.. we've never really thought a lot about insurance cover for flooding because it became a big issue in the uk about 5-10 years ago with limited land availability leading to building on flood plains and the eventual inevitable consequences and so when we bought over here we didn't buy anywhere that was a possible flood risk.
our choice seems to have worked out as we've been completely untouched by the recent issues but tragically, others have been less fortunate and apparently few people are covered for 'overland flooding' which is where water enters your house through doors and windows.. it's hard to really know what is fair.
i understand the reason why insurers don't cover it and the arguments on both sides.. one one hand, we included the flood risk when puchasing a home.

LOL. NN - you're very sensitive. I wasn't suggesting you were "lying" at all. I was surprised and interested to hear that you have Earth quake insurance. I learned something from your post. Chill out dude. The world ain't so angry.

Interesting thread. I was discussing insurance earlier this evening and my friend said insurance doesn't cover events deemed "acts of God", such as the floods caused by torrential rains, tornadoes, Tsunamis, etc. (I asked what if you're an atheist ;) ) Anyhoo, that was my understanding as well, but now NN says earthquake insurance exists, which surprises me as I didn't think you could get it when I lived on Van Island.
It would be awful to lose your home as some have in S. Alberta and know you aren't covered for anything, but I get Simon's point on this one. Complex biz.

7 graphs that prove America is overrated
by Simon inbefore the usual suspects start reaching for the pich-forks and forming a mob, i invite you to actually read and consider this, not just leap to conclusions.. http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/americas/united-states/130607/7-graphs-america-overrated-nsa-prism-privacy.
why do i care?
it seems the people being screwed the most are also the most visciferous defenders of the status quo which sees them being severely disadvantaged.. maternity leave?

PaintedToeNail - not sure about the US system, but in Canada I don't believe employers are obligated to pay maternity benefits. Government funded employment insurance, which all CAs pay into, pays those who qualify for mat leave, and some company benefit plans top those payments up. Employers are only legally required to keep the person's job for them while they are on mat leave. Bascially you can't fire someone for having a baby.

Er... I was a bit surprised to see Afghanistan has more women in govt. than Canada - but Canada is tied with Iraq on that one - yikes - just sayin' (and I'm a Canuck).

Pets are false gods
by Rattigan350 ini"m listening to the 2013 dc green bay saturday talk on false gods.. the speaker says no one would knowingly worship false deities.
but could we inadvertantly give jehovah less than exclusive devotion he deserves.. he said:you have not allowed this deception power of sin to sensual desires, material comforts, pets, technology, entertainment or food to become objects of devotion to you.. anything that interferes with our spiriutal routine has the power of eroding or weaking our relationship with jehovah.. .
my dogs can erode my relationship with jehovah.

a self indulgent post - just need to vent. I've had a year... spent two years dating my ex JW BF and spending way too much time trying to get him out. Read way too many books, i.e Crisis of Conscience, Freedom of Mind, I'm Perfect You're Not, and even the damn Bible, blah blah blah. I couldn't get through to him. I was the bad guy. Finally waved the flag in Dec, got tired of the games - the secrets, the double-life etc and let it go, with help and words of wisdom from many on this site.
My job is taxing. The kind that calls for 12 hours a day, weekends included, lotsa pressure and big politics. Trying to get someone out of a cult distracted me from my job, made me tired. Ending the relationship once and for all - knocked me down with sadness. I took a week off in March to get my head back. Two days in I dislocated my knee, tore my knee cap off, ripped a bunch of ligaments. In a full leg brace. Can finally walk somewhat and can drive. 8 more months to completely heal ahead.
Returned to work and first day back, after 7 long years, and raving performance reviews they let me go. They noticed for a few months I was off my game and this company doesn't suffer with the weak for long - I could hardly tell them at the time I was distracted trying to rescue the man I loved from a cult (awkward laugh).
I know I'll eventually land on my feet, or at least on my one good leg. It will be ok. Right...?

payback? bitterly upset....
by losingit ini don't even know where to start.. more than anything, i'd like to say that i am not a woman of vengeance.
i am very much a forgiving person.
if you say "i'm sorry," and you're genuine, i can move on from it quickly and easily.

Losing it. Wow - these are some tough times you're dealing with. I'm so sorry for you! Be kind to yourself right now and be proud too. From what I've read from all the wonderful people on this site, it takes real courage to learn TTATT and to face it. It also takes a lot of strength to parent while going through a divorce. Despite your troubles you sound very strong and I think you will come through this very well. Anger can be helpful during times like this -- use it as a motivator. I say don't waste your time getting reinstated. Be true to yourself and work on letting go. You might be amazed at what begins to come your way.
