This is my first Christmas in 11 years and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm going to sing my lungs out! I wanna attend Christmas Midnight services at a (OMG...should I say it?) church, cook, bake, visit friends, shop, wrap gifts, send cards, sing, decorate, and wish everyone the biggest, loudest most loving "MERRY CHRISTMAS". ((((HUG)))) On a more serious note, I'll be praying for the Peace of God to be felt over the world during these very difficult times. I'll be praying for the families of the victims because it will be so hard for them.

Thanksgiving? I'll be thanking God for opening the door for me and showing me a way out of the WTS and to friends like you. ((((HUG))))

Intro: Mona is so cute. I have a black cat also but with green eyes ("Bingo"). No pic. I don't know how to get pics to the computer yet. Haven't progressed that far. Bingo is 16 yrs old and just weighed in at 16 lbs (down from 21-1/2 two yrs ago so he's now getting old real fast). He may not be around much longer so I spoil him to death.

i link to this board a couple of times a day, sometimes in the early hours and there is always a flurry of activity, often from an enclave of veterans.

i wonder, are you all in prison?

Overweight JWs -- on the increase?

yes, i know, the title is a pun.

it was deliberate.. i can recall in the 1970s seeing very few overweight jws.

in fact, i used to think (in my arrogant jw manner) that this was a sign of how jws were better at self-control than worldly people.

On a serious note...Preaching, teaching, eating, and growing older will do that. Strolling door-to-door is not exactly aerobic. There can be other factors involved like depression and stress. Many people are emotional eaters. I gained 60 lbs in 11 years when I was a JW. Eating was the only thing that gave me pleasure. I recently DA'd and am using some of my new found freedom to get my health back. It will take a while to repair the physical, as well as the emotional damage.

But-t-t-t to quote my boss "We don't have problems; we have opportunities" (as I strangle him in front of God and everybody).

The three reasons we leave the "Truth"

seems to me there are mainly three roads most of us have taken.

1.we did something "wrong" and were disfellowshipped and after felt able to look at the society in a different light.. 2.we didn't like the "truth" and were looking for a way out.. 3.we wanted it to be the truth but were overcome by the mountain of evidence against it.. which is the most common i wonder.. also do our motives play a large part in how we deal with information criticising the org.. without a reason to act information seems useless.. for instance if a person feels he has nothing to gain by leaving the org will he read different things into the same info as us?.

i think so and that all who leave must have a reason to do so, something to gain.. this does not make their reasoning wrong or prove they we are looking for just excuse.. but is a normal way in which humans deals with information.. two humans can have the same information but if they want or desire different things they may use the information differently.. maybe thats wht so many say "where else is there to go?

For me it was #4 first. I was really stressed trying to keep up with everything and the Elders didn't want to hear it. Push, Push, Push. I was sick of it. I was sick of hearing the same rhetoric over and over and over again...like parrots. The guilt was horrendous. Then #3 clinched it with the Net, reading of Ray Franz's books, and the Library research. I'd been had and I was pissed...real pissed.
But I'm working on it.

Hi, from Florida. I've been following this thread. Amazing has very good advice. I agree with TweetieBird. Stall until you can get other living quarters. Many of us have been through it and understand your trauma. Our prayers are with you. Keep in touch.

Nov 15 Watchtower article regarding Hypocrisy

i started reading the november 15th watchtower this mroning.. you guys really have to read it.. on page 21 there is an article entitled, "how do you handle hypocrisy?".

in light of all of the things that have transpired during the last month and a half concerning all of the talk about the wt and their involvement with the united nations, i read it right away.

one of the paragraphs has a statement that reads: first, we must learn to identify hypocrites.

RE: 11/15/2001 WT...I'm looking right at it. Sorry, I don't have a scanner. It's not a separate article but on pg. 19, article entitled "Jehovah Is Our Refuge", under sub-title section, "No Calamity Will Befall Us", para 14:

The next article is entitled, "How Do You Handle Hypocrisy?", pg. 21.
