Just stumped 2 Elders! Lol

as i'm walking to the convention center, i run into 2 jw's preaching.

I am currently on a business trip for a trade show in another city. As I'm walking to the convention center, I run into 2 JW's preaching. One is about mid 60s the other probably mid 30's. The younger one asks me "Have you ever wondered what happens to us when we die?" lol (take about a stale intro, been using that since at least the 80's, when I was a kid) Anyway, I asked are you guys JW's? if so, I don't like cults!
The older said we are not a cult, rather a religious organization that helps millions of people learn bible truths. I asked are either of you a pastor or hold any position within you cult? Lol The younger one said, we are elders. I said, GREAT! so you say you're not a cult, right? I have a co-worker who grew up in the church, her whole family is in the church (like 3 generations worth of family) she told me that she decided that the JW's were no longer for her a she wanted to try something else. I said that's acceptable like if you belong to a family of farmers and you want to try out city life, right ? She told me, there is no acceptable way to leave the JW's. Is that true, sir?
The older says, no one is forced to be JW. She said this is only "wrong thing" she has done. Is there an acceptable way to leave the church, where their family won't shun them? If so, please tell me and we can call her, to help her out. Ummmm, well said the older one. I said her Mom hasn't talked to her in 4 years, all because she no longer wanted to be a JW. That sounds like a cult to me? The younger one said, well it's been good talking to you, but we have to go. Have a good day. Lol

Funny story: Back in March I was talking with mom on the phone. The topic of how great the NWT was, compared to other bibles. Thanks to JWN, I said "O wouldn't be surprised if we had a new bible by this time next year." She went ballistic!!! Today was my first convo. with mom sice the annual meeting. She said "El Guapo, how did you know?" I said jokingly "Jah talked to me in my dreams, wanna hear what he told me last night? She yelled at me, called my demonized and hung-up! Lol thanks JWN, for the accurate prediction! :)

Lol! Very true, I remember hearing about those "earth shattering" announcements that would only be given at one particular meeting. An elder used to say, there is only 2 reasons to miss a meeting death or if you're in a coma. BARF!!!!!!

So an elder just dropped by my job, completely out of the blue. Recepitionist called me over and there he was. he told about annual meerting and grey bible....etc. I said I never received an invite, he just shook his head and said sorry. He did mention something really interesting: He said that one of GB members mentioned in his talk that in the near future "special instructions" may be given from the platform and the friends are to keep this info. Confidential. He said no details were given, but it highlighted the importance of meeting attendance. Is this just a scare tactic to keep the friends constant at meetings or is this aimed specifically to deal with faders? Hmmmm

I feel for these friends. The economic situation is horrible in their homeland, their only option is coming to a foreign land. Yet, being in a cong. with a couple known illegal aliens, these were some of the most "Christian like" of all of the friends. You need a last minute part in the school ask on of these friends, they would be happy to do it. Yet, some of the "American" friends were really quick to point out the words/sentences they got wrong. Suddenly everyone was an English teacher. They were never invited to the "nice" get togethers, like 80's night, fishing, etc. just the mandatory public speaker/service group dinner. I remember one memorial night, an elder invited all the elder and MS's to a fancy dinner at his home, I invited this brother Enoc (from Africa) the elder had this shocked look on his face we showed up together. I said, he didn't have any plans so I invited him. Later, that elder gave me a tongue lashing for inviting him. I said brother, who did Jesus say to invite if we have a banquet? Why did Paul feel the need to correct Peter when he only sat with Jews? He said NOTHING, but if looks could kill I would not be here right now. Lol

That is correct. You are unable to serve in any capacity. (Elder, MS, pioneer) etc. But you are able to go to FS.

So I ran into an old friend (elder) from the hall at the supermarket. He started off saying how much I am missed at meetings, etc . Then he asks if know what happend to sister Gomez. He said the sister has been out of a job for months and the friends can find a proper place for her. (She's been staying with the same 3 families in 5 day intervals) quick backstory: sister Gomez is blind in one eye and is not here in the US legally. She is the sweetest person ever, she always went out of her way to show her love for the friends. What really makes me sad and angry is when he told me that she called the PO the night before being evicted and he told her he was sorry but no congreational $$$$ support, and to trust in Jah and the friends. Ironically this brother has a huge home with plenty of space for sister Gomez, yet his family is not one of 3 that is actually helping.
