It works because people believe them.
When a person finally admits to himself that the WT and it's leadership is not being used by Jesus or God (at all), it's all over (but the crying).

ok, so we all know that the basis the org uses for its power, authority, and supposed ability to speak on behalf of god is matt 24:45.
"who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics to give them their food at the proper time?".
but how can it possibly define the wt org?.

i was 13yo and largely clueless to what was going on.
i think i remember hearing something about an apostate being weeded out of bethel but really couldn't have cared less.
i didn't start getting zealous until a couple of years later.. .
I was attending university.
We heard about Fred Franz's nephew getting kicked out of Bethel before the official KM 'announcement' was available.
Any time a group of people were gathered outside of an Alabama convention site, everyone would say they were part of the 'Franz apostate group'. Peter Gregerson's name would often come up when the 'adults' were discussing things later.
Some of these elders thought worse of Gregerson than Ray Franz. Perhaps because Peter had a lot of influence and 'power' (in their minds) in our area.

the governing body is powerful, but the holy spirit is infinitely more powerful.
if the wt ever changes, it will be because of a movement such as this.. .
but sanctify the christ as lord in your hearts, always ready to make a defense before everyone that demands of you a reason for the hope in you, but doing so together with a mild temper and deep respect.
I just threw my bullsh!t flag across the living room.
objectivetruth needs to take off his fake C.T. Russell beard. I think he has a future reporting 'objective' stories on Fox News.

i just found this video they released on their official website.
sorry if this was already posted.
(if not i thought some might have some thoughts about it).
The missionary program of years gone by is over. Certian couples from around the world apply and are accepted for Gilead school. When they 'graduate' they return to their home countries.
I think of this school as an intense programming session for people who have dedicate their lives to the Org. When they return to their homes, they can now confidently represent JW.org.

when the org lost the candace conti case, the court ordered (pending the appeal) that the org would have to deposit several million$ as security.
the puzzling thing is, the org got a bond company to put up the millions, thereby incurring heavy interest charges.
i've always wondered, 'why?????????'.
In this particular case the WT lawyers tried to put the Patterson Educational complex up as surety. The California court accepted the argument (Conti's attorney) that real estate is too unstable to be considered a safe surety bond - and it was in New York and if there was a future issue about the appeal the laws in two different states could cause problems.
So, WT found a bonding company (in Chicago I think) that posted the surety - for the amount awarded in favor of Candace. The WT must pay a monthly fee to keep this bond.
I think that the WT knows that they are going to lose this case (among others around the world) and are going to have to pay up. The WT is preparing all JW's for the worst outcome - and outlay of millions of dollars.
Recall the recent WT warning about everyone being ready to do things that are not practical or 'strategic from a human standpoint'.

.entry-header one morning at bethel in 1989, after the usual text discussion before breakfast, there was an announcement to the staff about the legalization of jehovahs witnesses in poland.
Thank you for sharing your insights Barbara.

perhaps i've missed seeing it.... can anyone provide a scan or link to the 2014 memorial talk and the following sunday's public 'special talk'?.
ginger.
Actually it was changed again last year.
I was wondering if it was adjusted since the 'new light' about the Faithful and Descreet Seven ...

anyone who has awakened to ttatt and conscientiously left the organization--especially a once-prominent individual from a prominent multi-generational tribe of jws-- after decades of devout, high-profile "serve-us," who continues to put in an annual appearance at the memorial thoroughly subverts and undermines, by this one act, any hope s/he may entertain that his/her departure will stir family or former friends to question the whole watchtower bamboozle.
by this one concession s/he assigns him-/herself by every single jw to their handy and dimissive purgatory: the "spiritually-weak.".
nothing blasts a louder, clearer, and more deliberate message to the jws who personally knew you and those familiar with your jw bona fides that you are not merely "not making the meetings" or "spiritually-weak" but that there is a conscientious reason you have rejected the entire watchtower society life than choosing to forego what they know you know to be their one-and-only holy and sacred event of the year, the lord's evening meal.
Your patience is commendable AMNESIAN.
Hopefully it will work as well as it has for our family!

AMNESIAN - will your own husband be attending the Memorial again this year?
