does anyone know what happened to douglas walsh when the society lost the case?
all the references to the case concentrate on freddie franz and his inabilty to translate a single verse of the bible into hebrew and to grant suiter who let the cat out regarding disfellowshiping and altered doctrine.. walsh, i understand was a pioneer and possibly the congregation servant.
did he go to prison?
We had a couple of days of ministerial training back in 2011 in Dumbarton Kingdom Hall.
The Glasgow congregations are all pretty "close" - I do know someone from Dumbarton (who is still in), but I'm not sure they would go back as far in history as this. You might also try people in nearby congregations such as Clydebank, Paisley/Renfrew, Port Glasgow or Maryhill/Bishopbriggs.
Perhaps slimboyfat or dozy might know older folks in the area.

kepler - don't be transcribing anything by hand nowadays - there are plenty of OCR programs, even online ones. I'd even be happy to do it for you! A bit of computer muscle can help out with things like that.
from talking to several fading jws over the years, it really does appear that assembly talk assignments are usually given to those pos who consistently hand over the thickest envelopes to the co at the end of his week-long visits.
if the envelope was too thin (or there was no enevelope at all), chances are that no one in that congo would get an assemby talk assighnment.
also, if the co and his wife were treated well or taken to expensive restaurants during their visit, that apparently increased the po's chances of getting an assembly talk assignment.

I'm sure if you look back through Atlantis' BOE postings, you will find the form that is filled out by elders to grade speakers on their "ability".
It is a bit of a farce because elders all grade each other in their congregations, so elders that get along with each other grade each other highly. Of course, if you have elders that don't get along with each other, then there might be some low grades. And also, some elders have very different ideas about what makes a good speaker.

I can also verify that bibles are running low - even more so than the usual rationing that Anony Mous mentions. Our small congregation has about 3 or 4 deluxe/reference bibles on order from way back in August.
The theory proposed by our literature servant was that all bible printing is now being moved to Japan. I'm not sure how he would know though - I don't think he has any contacts in Bethel.
I do know Brazil used to print the blue interlinear as I ordered one a couple of years ago. I was under the impression that most of the book binding in Europe was done at the German branch?
i attended a recent ministerial servant k m school on the east coast and the main school instructor mentioned among other things (part entitled: 'objective of the km school course') that the total number of ministerial servants is seriously less than it should be.
in times past the ratio of m ss to elders was much more than it is today.. in the u.s. apparently the total number of elders is 88,500+ as opposed to m ss 65,000. the numbers show & numbers don't lie: the society is running out of spiritual men.
the instructor stated that this is a new downward trend that has (in so many words) the society worried.. the next speaker (part entitled: 'why we must be spiritual men') added that in his years as a traveling servant the pool of m ss has always been much, much larger than it is today.

I recall there was also mention of the lack of younger ministerial servants. The C.O. pointed out that in our circuit, there were only 3 ministerial servants under 25 at the time. I think there were probably a few more appointments as a result of that meeting alone when elders got back to their congregations.

I have to agree too - I think there is a lot more "OBEY THE GB!"
I mean, before it would have been maybe once or twice at each meeting, but now it seems like it's every item. Even (perhaps especially) in the Jeremiah book.
They seem to cram it in any way they can, regardless of whether it fits into the topic or not. They seem to even be doing it at the expense of actually learning anything new - it's all the same handful of scriptures re-hashed.
Jeremiah can actually be an interesting book from so many other angles - the history, chronology, events, archeology, the culture of the time - but all they do is twist it and harp on about GB this and GB that - very little time actually trying to see the verses and events in context.
