In the 50s my dad not a JW just married to one was a contractor, who used his license to build our new Kingdom Hall, he spent time and money building this hall,, the current congregation servant was to reimburse my dad for money spent, he didn't. My dad never forgot his being cheated.

Has The Society, or Any Bro or Sis, Ever Screwed You Out Of Your Money?
by LoisLane looking for Superman inthis thread was inspired because of 3rdgn, and her asking, on behalf of her destitute elderly widowed mom,.
for the return of her mother's "conditional loan" to the society of $20,000.00.. (this was stated today, under my thread of, "what was the effect on you of knowing hypocritical jw's?").
the society more or less yes, no, it is now our money, and you can't have it back.

What gives you away as a (former) JW?
by perfect1 inthese days my jw past stay safely under wraps from nearly everyone.. i dont dig it up- and i see no need to talk about it with anyone.. sometimes i feel as if my past is a large and terrible secret, and i will be found out eventually.
people can sense i am different.
i never talk about my family.. i guess people chalk it up to being a private person or let me be a mystery.. however, there is one thing that i feel completely reveals me as having been raised a jehovahs witness:.

I still can't wrap gifts.
Finally said bless you this morning when granddaughter sneezed
Still have a hard time with flag salute I guess to deeply ingrained in brain
But I can stand for national anthem
Recently called JW a cult too exercise buddies when home schooling was brought up Most are former higj school teachers who expressed having JW kids that would't go on to college.

My take on Elders. THe servants in charge that I knew personally in 50s and 60s seemed overall like normal kind men. In the 70s and 80s when the Elder arrangement started a power trip for those I knew. We still had some who were kind and understanding but I personally saw the hardnose a$$holes push the kind ones aside and push their nastiness. 90s till 2014 I stay far away as humanly possible from elders.

feeling bad for your Dad i'm concerned about the older ones in the congregations because they sacrificed their lives without the reward.

Kids these days are taught to research on the internet for their classes. I think they will wake up quicker than our older "overlapping generations' has. Information is esy to find now plus critical thinking is encouraged in school.

Did your parents force spiritual goals on you?
by Comatose ini was thinking today about my childhood.
i knew from a young age that the proper response to a question about what i wanted to be when i grew up was pioneering, missionary, bethel, or c.o.
i was taught from childhood not to want to be a fireman or astronaut.

Yes, my dream of being a teacher, I knew I wanted to teach from 3rd grade on. Now I am 65 I have been told over the last 45 years it was my choice, not the way I or my friends remember. 45 years ago it became harder to go to college as I had my first child and didn't no how to start back to school. I always encouraged my kids to get their education. One has an associate and the other has her Masters.
