I was justing thinking about an incident that happened with this brother. His son actually took my son out drinking one night, we had a hard time waking him up so we called this brother to ask him to find out if it was more than booze that the boys had. This brother (an elder then) was so upset that his son did this that he stepped down as elder. The BOE tried to convince him that one incident doesn't mean he's a bad father or elder but he insisted in order to keep the congregation clean. Very humble man, probably why he's not going to meetings anymore. It seems like the power hungry, lord it over the flock types never see the truth about "the truth."

Just found out
by TweetieBird inthat a couple from my old hall in florida haven't been to any meetings in about 2 years.
i was floored as the husband was an elder for a long time, the wife a pioneer.
nice quiet couple that you would never suspect to miss any meetings, let alone 2 years worth.

Their grown children still go though.

Do you mean to tell me that everyone in Southern Florida still has their blinders on?

Give your experience of hypocrytical elders, here`s mine!
by dido ini will feel better once i get this off my chest, i don`t know whether it`s ok to mention the cong, but anyway, it`s hayes cong in middlesex.
what happened, i stopped going to the meetings, and was trying to `fade`, but who should appear on my doorstep, 2 `busy` elder`s (who had nothing better to do, obviously!
) anyway, they said `oh sister, we miss you bla bla bla`, got the bible out, tried to make me feel guilty by reading some scripture`s out loud, brought tears to my eyes, etc.

I remember working with an elders wife that wanted a new dress for the assembly so she said she was going to go home a give her husband a blow job for some money. Not too long after we had a talk given on oral sex and how wrong it was and guess who gave the talk? None other than the hypocritical elder. He acted like he was repulsed by the idea that someone would even think of engaging in such an act. This was just one of many hypocritical acts by this elder.

After getting sucked into a few MLM's (we're slow learners) my husband and I had a light-bulb moment at an MLM conventions/seminar. We looked at each other and said that the JW's were nothing more than a MLM (without the monetary compensation). I think the eye-opening was set in motion from that point on. The Service Meeting on Thursday nights were nothing more than sales meetings. Definitely the beginning of the end for us.

So we signed up. It's a weird feeling. I've known the truth about "the truth" for about 10 years now, but it's still strange to go against the Society like that. The brainwashing goes sooooo deep.
