What to believe in?
by Frannie Banannie ini've seen that question pop up here on jwd in one form or another over the past few years and it's always had me mentally juggling whether to indulge in chrisitanity (the bible), churches, agnosticism, new age crapola or atheism or some other form of religious hype.......before today.. for some reason, i've chosen just today to believe in myself.
i don't hide from myself i know what i'm capable of and how to do all of which i am capable and am willing to do.
i'm also dependable and if i don't have an answer for a question that i need the answer to, i do some research and find out the facts.

Brad Pitt support for gay marriage
by BizzyBee inwhat a clever way to avoid tying the knot!.
new york - brad pitt, ever the social activist, says he won't be marrying angelina jolie until the restrictions on who can marry whom are dropped.
"angie and i will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able," the 42-year-old actor reveals in esquire magazine's october issue, on newsstands sept. 19.. is brad pitt morphing into tom cruise, or is that just my imagination?.

Does he honestly think that all of the lawmakers are now going to say, "we must change the law to allow everyone the right to marry" just because he's the great Brad Pitt? Gimme a break!

I think it was Mulan on another thread that stated that sometimes when it gets personal is when a person will take a second look at the organization. It sounds like it just got personal.

I don't get it
by lola28 ini need some help in understanding something that's been bothering me for a while, please give me some insight on this.
i often see posts here where some take shots at elders and witnesses for working as janitors and window washers, and it's always bothered me.
i mean does it really matter what they do for a living as long as they are making a living honestly?

I don't think they mean it to be demeaning of the profession, actually you can make a lot of money doing janitorial work. I think the sentiment is more of a if the society hadn't discouraged higher education, there would be those that fulfilled their desire to pursue more of a secular education and pick a career that they enjoyed. I don't think any kid ever says as they are growing up, ooh, I want to be a janitor when I grow up and clean toilets. Even though I have a pretty well paying job, I would have liked to have gone to college and do something different than what I am doing now. But my whole life all I ever heard was "armageddon is right around the corner."

This too was the nail on the coffin for me to thoroughly convince me that the creator was not using the WTS in any way, shape or form. Actually, it answered a lot of questions for me but that's another story.
When I approached my mother-in-law about this, she said that it didn't matter if the society joined the UN. "Until Jehovah actually comes down from heaven and tells me that this is not his organization, I will follow and support it til I die." I couldn't believe my ears. Right then and there I could see that the organization had placed itself above even the creator. -

Active JW Apologists: Did you take the OATH at the Convention?
by kid-A ininquiring minds want to know: how did respond to oath # 7 which all jws were required to take at the latest dc?
"we will resist with all our strength the spirit of the world manifested in such things as materialism, unwholesome entertainment, overindulgence in food and alcoholic beverages, the plague of pornographic material and the curiosity or temptation that lures one into association with outsiders through internet chat rooms.
our resolve is to be no part of world as we carry on worship that is clean from the standpoint of our god.

Even as a believing dub, I always thought the resolutions and oath's were assinine.

The twisted words of the bible and jehovah is jesus
by sinis ini've been reading a few articles on the subject of jehovah being jesus in the new testament, which makes perfect sense.
as i don't believe the bible is the word of god (or has been severely altered by man), i do believe there may be some small shreds of truth.
could it be that yahweh in the ot is jesus of the nt?

While "The Davinci Code" was a fictional book, I do believe that the Catholic Church has been responsible for altering the bible to some degree. If you ever watch some of the documentaries surrounding the issues discussed in the book, most bible scholars will agree that around 400 AD, the church was instrumental in leaving certain gospels out, particularly pertaining to women (keeping them from having any kind of role in teaching).
