So happy for you. When I started to fade, I confided in my older brother (who had left years before) that I was having doubts. It was such a relief to be able to talk to someone about my feelings. I'm glad you two are reconnecting.

How do you make friends once leaving the Borg?
by unhappy inso i'm starting the fading out now, and i'm avoiding all kh 'friends,' but am finding it a bit lonely, as was raised in org, and was always taught to shun worldly people even at school.
does anyone have any advice or experiences about how to overcome this?
how they met and made new friends in the beginning?

You might try www.craigslist.com if they have it in your area. There is a section under personals, strictly platonic. You can then search under w4w or m4m, whatever you are looking for. There are a lot of people out there that have just as much trouble making new friends (the older you get the harder it becomes IMHO). Anyway, there are people who have just moved to a new area and are in need of friendships just like you. I actually made friends with someone that way and we get together a couple of times a month for drinks or dinner and discuss whatever. I told her how I was raised a JW and that life outside can be difficult to adjust to at first, but it does get a lot easier. I have also met other friends through her so my circle is getting a lot bigger.

The truth about the donation arrangement
by Wolfgirl ini never knew this...just found it today.
made me giggle.. payment of sales tax on literatureon 17 january1990 the u.s. supreme court made a ruling that sales tax must be paid on religious literature.
the following month, a letter from the watchtower society went out to all congregations stating that there would no longer be a set price for literature but that they would be given to the public on a donation basis.

Thanks, Mary for coming to my defense. The bottom line for me as far as the Jimmy Swaggert, donation and the UN thing is this...for an organization that is suppose to be Jehovah's organization led by holy spirit, they seem to be NOT relying on that holy spirit to take care of things. Why now allow Jehovah's holy spirit to take care of things?

Another problem that I have noticed (and I work for a mortgage company) is that a lot of fly-by-night mortgage brokers talked their clients into neg-am loans (generally a start rate of 1% for the 1st year and then it adjusts after that). What's happened here in Southern California is that people bought houses that were way too expensive for them due to the 1% rate and now it is adjusting and they can't afford the payments. Because the price of houses here are expensive to start with, you are looking at about a $3,000 to $4000 monthly payment and they can't afford it anymore. We have several clients that bought a ton of investment properties with neg-am loans and the payments are double what they can get for rent now.

to Choosing Life...I enjoyed "Angels and Demons" even more than the Davinci Code. It's definitely a page-turner.

Thank you Terry for sharing your story. I remember as a young girl how so many of the young brothers were sentenced to prison. My older brother quickly pioneered and then went to Bethel so that he could obtain some kind of exemption, another one of my brothers was sentenced to work in a hospital. I can remember driving to a prison one time, with one of the sisters in the hall, to toss something over the fence for her husband. I was young but it was something he wanted and wasn't allowed to have. My point is that there were so many young men sentenced to prison then and even at a young age, I remember them coming out of prison changed by the experience. Some came out all fired up for "the truth" but many others probably experienced horrors that we cannot even imagine and were never the same.

Don't forget that they instituted the donation arrangement after going to the defense of Jimmy Swaggert. When that failed they were only left with the alternative of the donation arrangement. When I found out about that little piece of hypocrisy, I was greatly disturbed.
