Thanks for your insightful comments, Half Banana. I had to read the italicized sentence and the following paragraph a few times, as they really hit home to me as to the truth in those words..

i just recalled something from my past that i've not thought about in a very long time, but it did have a significant impact on me whether i knew it or not at the time....... i have a sister who was born when i was 15. my family are not jw's thank the universe!

but me as an uberdub at the time convinced my young sister to have a study.

she was about 14 or 15 at the time i'd guess.

We had an elder pose the question during a talk, 'What do we DO, since we don't celebrate holidays, birthdays, or participate in many other activities outside the religion?'

The pause afterwards must have seemed like forever, at least to those anticipating a decent response for anyone whoa asks. Then he came up with "Well, I like to eat!" I'm thinking to myself "Seriously? That's all you can come up with? JWs sure need to get a life!"

Why haven't you been to the meetings?

some cong-member asked my wife this question (in the street, stopping her on her bicycle) in a rather police-like fashion.

i wasn't there so i don't know her immediate reaction and response, but she got very upset afterwards and one day later this still occupies her mind.

i believe it's an emotional mix of anger, sadness, shame and guilt.. she doesn't like this intrusion in her privacy from some jws and on the next occasion she will try to make this person respect her boundaries (or just ignore her).

ToesUp's comment about the finances sounds good. I may use that myself, if only to see what reaction is prompted.

Although it's tempting to use what I've read here before: "What? You don't have the Internet?"

to me honestly this would of been prohibited 10 years ago, but now every dub is obsessed with this website, it's everywhere even a damn iphone cover... ooh they don't approve of idolatry ooh no they don't accept cross veneration thats bullshit to me!!!

its getting to a point that they are venerating this website (company logo) it's their version of the cross.

Earlier this week I saw a pickup truck with a JW.org sign. I think it was a magnetic removable sign. It took up about 1/4 of the back lift gate and said something about calling for a free home Bible study. I was in traffic so I didn't get a picture. Palm Beach County, FL.

so i think i'm going to listen in today just to see how things are at my old hall..... should be sickening....er i mean "encouraging"

If the "truth" was really an urgent message, why would the dial-in number + PIN be secret?? And continue changing on a rotating basis? Aren't the meetings public?

Assemblies - Before and After Waking Up

happy friday to all!.

i haven't been to a meeting for maybe 10 years.

i only know what's happening nowadays from the experiences i read here or the internet in general.. anyway, on to the topic: i started attending meetings at the age of 7. as a kid, the only thing i looked forward to at the assemblies (circuit/district) was walking around veteran's stadium (philadelphia district convention) during intermission, hanging with friends, looking at girls (as i got a little older) and trying to have enough tickets to get pizza!.

I also went to the Vet, often sitting near or in the very top row. When it hits about 100 degrees, it's definitely time to loosen the necktie. One of our friends found his son with hi's head stuck between the railings on the ramp. A story for another thread!

I also got baptized in Grantville a little more than 30 years ago. Moved out of PA, but thanks for the memories.

Thoughts during the meeting today

while i'm politely sitting during the meeting today, restraining myself from rolling my eyes as the brother drones on about how "having an independent spirit is devilish in nature" and "independence from gods organization only results in pain and strife", i only have one thought going through my mind over and over.

"what would happen if i pulled out a gun and blew my brains out in this kingdom hall?".

would anyone notice or care?

That reminds me... About 30 years ago, an elder on the platform was taken to the side and whispered that his house was on fire. He announced this into the microphone and then said that he would continue with his meeting part, since emergency crews would have the situation in hand. I was in my teens then, but I was shocked!
