utah jehovah’s witnesses church forced woman to listen to audio of her rape, lawsuit says.
a woman is suing a jehovah's witnesses church in weber county after, she says, one of its instructors repeatedly raped her when she was a minor and the organization's leadership forced her to listen to an audio recording of one of the assaults.. the woman filed the lawsuit wednesday in 2nd district court, accusing the kingdom hall of jehovah's witnesses church in roy — as well as naming the alleged perpetrator, several church leaders and the watchtower bible and tract society (the religion's headquarters located in new york) — of knowingly allowing the "unfit" instructor to rise to a position of authority without warning members of his "dangerous propensities" and past sexual transgressions.. read more: http://www.sltrib.com/news/4465861-155/woman-sues-utah-jehovahs-witnesses-church.

Amazing. Side point: I wonder why the newspaper editors didn't catch "duck" tape when I think they meant "duct" tape. -

Secrecy?
by HereIgo inwere any of you shocked by the secrecy in the org?
i remember hearing that elders have to turn in their "flock" books if they resign, get deleted, etc, i didn't even know they had their own books and i was an ms. is the bible not enough?
i remember i asked one of the elders if i could see my publisher record, they refused to show me!

I remember once being shown my service report for the previous service year. I don't think that was my publisher record card, though. It wasn't until after I averaged OVER 10 hours a month that I was considered for MS and appointed.
And they made sure to send a letter to the congregation (secretary, I think) that either recommended your reappointment or not.
Speaking of secrecy, I wasn't allowed to see that letter. Whatever it was, I was never reappointed. That whole process was part of my "waking up".

I don't believe that the aforementioned brother Hyatt is of the anointed. That would delay appointment to GB, correct?

Elder Arrest Scaremongering
by jw07 inlast week there was a meeting with all the elders and ministerial servants about responsibility in the kingdom hall and blah blah blah.. one elder brought up a scenario where all the elders were arrested, and we were asked if the meeting would still go on, and how.. this is the second time within a month that i've heard that scenario posed by an elder in my congregation.. does anyone have any idea of the trash being fed to them in letters recently?.
is this a scenario that hq is putting out there, or are the fear mongering convention videos driving their imaginations wild?.

And how many sisters have a key to the hall?

An exJW for Prez?!! Peace, for Prince!
by Spartacus II - The Equalizer init appears there is about a million voting age jws in the us right now.
it appears there is 8 million ex jws or in the shadows.. if those 8 million would have the guts to come out for a presidential candidate to come out, we can finally end the slavery, tyranny and corruption in this and many other circles.. cowards die many times but a hero only dies once.
and cowards die in revelation.. so, to you reading this, are you a coward or a true steward of the earth and creation?.

Someone anonymously tipped the elders?
by raven inso here an update on my current situation, in a nutshell i've been trying to quietly fade for the past 5 months.. well, my mom somehow found out that i am currently fading and that i live with my boyfriend (for more info on this check my previous posts) i told her yes i live with him and yes i no longer want to be a jw.
anyways, yesterday she met my boyfriend.. awkward.
and after lunch she pulled me aside to tell me that the po came up to her (he was part of my jc when i was reproved) he said to her "someone came to me and said - i cannot say who so they will remain anonymous- but that your daughter is living with someone" my mom confirmed and apparently he told her that i have one week to confess this, and if i don't my parents are obligated to tell them everything.. what kind of nonsense is that?

Not knowing any more details than what I've read in your post, I wanted to clarify something: Are the elders 100 miles from you? That wouldn't make it very convenient for them to drop by unannounced, like they do with my personal fading experience. -

I get sucked into this cognitive dissonance often, but I find myself catching it a little sooner after reading it, after a couple of years of being 'awake'.
The visit with family went about as expected. They defended the WT like I was attacking our own mother on Mother's Day, so I've decided not to pursue family visits in the future.

Yes, thanks to wifibandit and all who provide this food at the proper time!🍴
I skipped ahead to chapter 5 paragraph 5-7 of that book for some reason. Maybe those "flashes of light" have already been discussed on other threads. I'm reading that section a second and third time, since it seems a little too smoothly worded for my comfort level. Trying to decide if and how to share with my "in" relatives that I will be seeing soon.

Thanks for your insightful comments, Half Banana. I had to read the italicized sentence and the following paragraph a few times, as they really hit home to me as to the truth in those words.. -

Moment of awakening?
by Freeandclear ini just recalled something from my past that i've not thought about in a very long time, but it did have a significant impact on me whether i knew it or not at the time....... i have a sister who was born when i was 15. my family are not jw's thank the universe!
but me as an uberdub at the time convinced my young sister to have a study.
she was about 14 or 15 at the time i'd guess.

We had an elder pose the question during a talk, 'What do we DO, since we don't celebrate holidays, birthdays, or participate in many other activities outside the religion?'
The pause afterwards must have seemed like forever, at least to those anticipating a decent response for anyone whoa asks. Then he came up with "Well, I like to eat!" I'm thinking to myself "Seriously? That's all you can come up with? JWs sure need to get a life!"
