Assemblies...conventions...special days...
by NikL inthere is a phenomenon in dub dom that i have always hated.
the circuit/district convention.. people will spend hard earned money, use up any vacation they may have to travel to a city they don't really have any particular reason to see to sit for entire days and listen to the same b.s.
they could sit and listen to at the meetings in their home kingdom hall.

Latte, I too found some of the expirences relayed on the platform some what fake. This was because they always viewed things in black and white and almost never showed the gray. At the assemblies/conventions they're always portraying a family that is having problems because of wanting to live in excess but never show the family that has problems because of the lack of love in the congregation they're in or lack of love and understanding from the elders. If alot of these friends and elders showed more love and respect then there would be far less problems and strains on the families.

Has anyone been watching nickelodeon's "Revenge of the Eighties Marathon? All the television shows anyone watched growing up in the eighties are being shown on nickelodeon all this week. Watching these shows brought me way back to when my biggest worries of the day was missing an episode of silver spoons. On Different Strokes they showed Janet Jackson when she used to be a teenager and now she has grown up to be an adult like the rest of us.My favorites shows growing up were Silver Spoons, Different Strokes, Night Rider, The A-team and She-ra.
Anyone care to stroll down memory lane with me and list any of the favorite shows they watched growing up? Or any of the episodes they saw on the Eighties Marathon they're having on Nickelodeon this week? -

Question #3 "What will you say?"
by ozziepost inall irregular and inactive publishers will be pleased with the heartwarming news that april will see a special campaign by the elders to encourage you.
yes, don't faint, it must be true because the april kingdom ministry says so.
in fact, so strong is the forecasted encouragement, that it states on paragraph 25 of the insert article:.

I agree it's like I said on another board alot of times it comes down to politics. When a brother gave a talk about helping some of the friends out with getting a ride to and from the meetings these brothers reminded me of how some hospitals are careless with following policies but as soon at JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Organizations) comes in they even do the obvious like polishing the floors and fixing broken medical equipment in a timely fashion. If only the society put just as much emphasis on promoting brotherly love as they do in promoting hypocrisy!! -

With all that I've gone through, even though your comment was last on this thread it was just as encouraging so don't feel that you was 'somewhat' adding to what every has said thus far. I agree about what you said about the world 'not ending tomorrow' I mean it sure enough didn't end in 1975! Even though I expect to be confronted by difficult witnesses when I finally do pioneer at least I won't be at their mercy as well because I plan to leave this congregation when I start pioneering .I hope you're able to have a decent retirement.waiting
It's funny you mentioned marriage because a sister suggested that I get married so that I could pioneer. But I wasn't going to have none of that! After growing up with a dad who verbally and physically abused my mom, seeing how vindictive even the brothers could be, and hearing from sisters how some of the brothers weren't good husbands to them, I didn't feel comfortable with marrying for economic stabilty with a depressing husband. I don't have a therapist but I don't have a few supportive sisters giving me the strength to make it through this situation. It's great that your kids have a supportive mom like you that understands and I hope your middle son does well in school.DrivelikeJehu
You're right naysayers don't know my situation and I don't even bother to explain to them. That's why I pray to Jehovah to help me with school, help me to deal with the other JW and help me to reach my spiritual goals.logical
You're right education is never view as bad in the bible, as a matter of fact if Timothy speaks of supporting member of your household how in the world can you do that without a job that will support you financially.alias
THanks for your encouraging comment, it was just as encouraging as the circuit assembly I attended this weekend. On the platform there were some sisters relating some experiences. They are going to college
full time and pioneering full time as well. One of the sisters mentioned how when she graduated from high school if she was going to make pioneering a full-time job she would have to be able to support herself (when she said that I started to tear a little and nodding my head because all in that assembly got to her from a young sister that she want to be able to support herself in THESE TIMES!!!). But then I began to think about that Watchtower article a few years ago that also allowed for ones to go to college and how the friends was insistent on giving me a hard time as if they were encouraging.prisca
One of my relatives just bought a car and told me I could use it to go to the meetings (as a matter of fact she's the only one who doesn't give me a hard time for being a JW). So when ever she doesn't come home her usual time I call 2 other sisters. One attends the same bookstudy I attend and the other goes to the same thursday night meeting and I get a ride from them. So far things are okay for now......AS for speaking to the elder about the rides he know because he specifically gave a talk on helping the friends getting rided to and from the meetings and I doubt this talk had an impact on anyone. If anything when he gave that talk I thought 'thank you Jehovah' but then again it was a week before the circuit overseer was going to visit our congregation then I thought 'how convieneint if was for the elders to prepare to give the appearance that the friends are loving.....'larc
you're right you get respect when you pioneer but I seriously doubt that I'll come across more loving friends. There are always a few genuine, humble ones in each congregation and those are the ones I alway make sure I stick close to.simon
I won't let them put me off if anything the more they give me a hard time the harder I study!!I hope your wife does well in her studies. -

Moscow makes religious gesture
by JAVA indayton daily news, saturday, february 24, 2001, p. 10a.
"world headlines" from wire reports:.
"moscow -- a moscow court on friday threw out a prosecutor's effort to ban jehovah's witnesses in the capital, a decision hailed as a strong move for religious tolerance.. applause and tears broke out amoung the crowd of about 50 people listening to the reading of the decision, which also called for the prosecutor's office to pay $650 to experts called in the case.. 'we are crying tears of happiness,' said a jehovah's witnesses member who did not give her name.

Hi I'm twvsnt and I've been a witness for 3 years now. Im glad this site exists. I've been meaning to speak to fellow witnesses who are more open-minded. Don't get me wrong but being through all that I've been through because of the way fellow witnesses have been towards me made me bitter to some extent. Every since I started studying with a sister that day she came at my door I was convinced there was no other religion to be in but this one and I still feel this way.
The problem is this I want to pioneer but can't financially afford to so now I'm going to college so that I can support myself in the field (because right now I can barely afford to take care of myself right now). But at the meetings when the friends are speaking amongst themselves ( especially the older ones), or when the sisters are on the platform giving a talk, or when the brothers are giving their talks or when that cold hearted elder at the book-study make durogatory comments about how going to school is indicative of a spritually weak person in search of riches or a person putting Jehovah second and not first it really hurts. Because first of all I'm not materialistic I was always living under someone else's roof paying no rent and because of this I was taken advantage of and grew sick and tired of this. Number two every since I was studying the friends always gave me a hard time with getting a ride home, in short many of them are very stingy when it comes to giving a sister or brother a ride to and from the meetings (unless your're studying to be a witness and not baptized as one yet) So much for "brotherly love" and "tender affection"[8>].AS a matter of fact because my school assignments made it difficult to attend one sister's gathering she no longer gives me a ride to the book-study that's AT HER HOME It's because of stunts similiar to this that other sisters have pulled on me that I'm going to college right now!! And the most ironic thing about this situation is that the same friends that won't help me with getting a ride to the meetings are the exact same one's that are giving me a hard time about going to college. You'd think they'd be glad since it will enable me to give myself a ride in my own car and not bother them any more
When architect101 mentioned the ecomonmical hardships that comes with pioneering I was totally feelin' this person. It's because of the stunts the sisters pull on me ( a single sister who is the only witness in her family) and the hurtful comments the friends or so-called friends at the hall make that often times I don't even want to go to the meetings but I go any way because they help me to deal with the friends and my family at home who are even more unloving towards me (and this is even before I became a witness).
And another ironic thing about the friends at the hall is that if they'd only recall that wathchtower a few years ago that said that it was okay to go to college as long it was so that you can serve God more fully without ecomomic problems holding you back but yet and still these so-called "loving" brothers and sisters mock not only me but themselves because there's nothing wrong with trying to help yourself out of a difficult situation especially when the scriptures don't rute it and the friends at the hall or any where for that matter won't helf you[>:(]
