When my sister and I had to knock on doors as teens, if one of us knew the name on the mailbox as one of our classmates one of us would hide in bushes or shrubs while the other knocked on the door 😆 Hence my penchant for horticulture as an adult. I don't get flustered, I am never mean and often try to recommend if they are young, to go to college so they have more options, when they do finally decide to leave. I think that JW is such a small speck in what life has to offer and I think that the youth in this cult should be made aware of that when they come to my door or stop me on the street. I feel like I have an obligation to let them know this isn't all there is to life. I also like to bring to their attention that according to the bible Jesus hung out with thieves and hookers and they should follow in his footsteps.

Yes they are basically a cult. I was raised in this religion. It completely fractured my family. They believe in religion over family to the extent that parents turn their backs on there own children who even as minors decide not to be JWs. Their laws take precedence over the rights of a spouse in regards to medical, sometimes life saving treatment. I was disassociated 3 times before the age of 18 and I was never baptized (1987) I was forced to be before 4 older male elders, without my parents present. As they asked me in depth about my sexual experiences, did I enjoy it, did I orgasm etc. When I turned 18 I left for good. At a very young age you are brainwashed into believing concepts that within themselves are abusive. My mother had to refuse blood transfusions when she was battling Cancer, and about 30 people were in the surgical waiting room including an elder to ensure my father had no say in her welfare. When my father tried to forbid my mother from bringing us to meetings, within days 2 elders showed up at my house, woke my dad up and as he sat groggy in his boxers on the couch they both stood over him harassing him so much about his decision, that it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it and I am now 47. When you decide to finally leave the religion, even as a minor, you are leaving everything behind, as you are completely shunned and left to fend for yourself. Yes it is extreme, yes it is abusive, yes it is a cult.
