I got asked THE QUESTION !!

a little experience that happened very recently:.

another brother, an elder, and i were talking, i was explaining to him and giving him several examples of how a couple of the elders in our congregation were blatantly trying to run their own show, parading themselves around as "representatives" of the body, when the other brothers didnt know what the hell they were talking about.

they are using their "elder powers" to bully and push people around, causing a bit of angst and hurt feelings.

JW's are told the best way to make people think is to ask questions. So personally I would take a similar approach to one mentioned earlier. I would ask, "Do YOU believe that only the FDS is the channel that can provide truth and spiritual direction to God's people?" Naturally they would say, "Yes." Then I would ask, "So, spiritual direction from any source OTHER than the FDS would be suspect, and therefore NOT the real truth?" Of course they would have to answer, "Yes." Then I would ask, "What would be the result if a person, or group of people were to follow spiritual instructions and Bible interpretations that were promoted by another person, or group of people who were not the FDS?" We all know how that question would be answered! My final question would be then, "So what about the religious, spiritual beliefs that are based upon, have been expanded on, and re-interpreted that were from CTR's beliefs of the Bible, considering that according to the FDS he was not part of the FDS, and therefore could not have been God's channel of communication, according to your own answers?"

Any other conversation related to THE QUESTION would be met with either silence, or my assertion that I in fact place my convictions on Almighty God, Jesus Christ, and the Bible. (Acts 5: 29)

They are celebrating the 100 year "anniversary" of the BIRTH of the kingdom.

Sounds a lot like a birthday to me.

I said as much to a couple Jdubs, that I was going to follow the lead of the GB celebrating the anniversary of a birth, by celebrating the anniversary of MY birth. Good lord did they ever backtrack and try to chastise me for "not understanding".

It reminds of the time the elders from the hall paid me a visit at home to alert me of the dangers of sitting with a member of the opposite sex, i.e. masturbation.

I heard that B.S. too. Sounds like an idiot, self-important, pompous a55 elder named Curtis that lived in an upper midwest state USA for many years and then went to WT farms. His wife was a real piece of work too.

In reality anything that makes a person feel self-worth is satanic in Jdubland.

please don't take this the wrong way if your battling weight problems, that's not what this thread is meant to talk about.

i am asking this question because jehovah's witnesses claim they have "the best way of life", "god's blessing", "the truth" and are trying to change the habits of healthy people by turning them in to their own makings.

i watched people who were great athletes turn all their muscle in to fat because we would get a elder or circuit overseer make remarks they were spending too much time "working out" and "bodily training is beneficial for little".

Because they hold to this scripture:

(1 Timothy 4:8) 8 For bodily training is beneficial for...little; but godly Governing Body devotion is beneficial for all things. . .

So of course in true dub manner they refuse to spend time being healthy, when they can load up on doughnuts and soda pop at break, sit on the a55es in the vehicle riding around between RV's, sit and eat snacks and drink sugar loaded juice at "Bible" studies, and on and on.

Of course an unhealthy lifestyle is promoted. After all if WHEN you die you are indoctrinated to believe you will have a healthy body in the next life.

does the BORG follow OSHA standards at KH/ASSEMBLY builds?

had a discussion with my wife about kh/assembly hall builds and i told her i don't believe the watchtower society follow osha standards on there build sites.

she trumpted it up that the borg follows stringent pratices and there standards would be more strict.

i laughed and said....ya i don't think so.

Of course they do!

Just like the bone-head RBC oversneer that I saw first hand on the last KH project I was at some five years ago. He came in, spouted off about "safety" and how we were showing loyalty to JAH by being obedient, and how anyone not following the safety rules would be barred from the site, all the while standing in front of the "Hard hats must be worn at all times" sign with his tucked firmly under his arm!

I guess the "rebel" in me came out because I took mine off, tossed it in the corner and said, "If you don't have to wear one, neither do I!"

I was "invited" to leave, which I did.

wow, it's true - they don't call to 'promote god's kingdom' anymore but just their website!.

we just had an old lady call and tell us that was exactly what they were doing and it has "lots of good things on their for children".

What's even weirder than the campaign is to hear it mentioned in prayers:

"Jehovah, please bless this campaign to advertise your website, JW.org."

I've heard it a few times now, and I shudder every time.

I know the last prayer at the KH I heard the guy "praying" said, "Thank you father for the technology that the Governing Body has provided for us to be able to reach even more people with good news on jw.org."

And here I thought that it was Algore who invented the interwebs, according to him.

You are told that you must leave in your car this afternoon and drive to Florida. You would be verrrrrrryy worried. Does my car have gasoline? Are the tires inflated or are they flat? When was the last time I changed the oil?

But if you are told to drive to Florida next month THAT'S different. You have time to make sure you have gasoline, the tires are up, and change the oil!

That, according to him, is like faith. God through the Bible gives you advance notice so you can get prepared.

I thought the premise of the illustration was pretty stupid. Only an idiot would run around with a vehicle that they didn't know was fueled up, properly inflated tires, and proper engine maintainence. But I guess in JW land that is standard operation procedure?

That person needs, not only talk therapy, perhaps pharmaceuticals to balance body chemistry, all skills not taught at the Kingdom Hall.

But I thought that the WT said skills taught at the KH were better than any eight year college degree? We all know don't we that the only reason anyone would get depressed, or have any emotional problems is a lack of personal Bible study, or prayer. It's their fault they are ill.

Gawd, just trying to mimic those idiot eldurrs made me puke in the back of my throat.
